1. Ani 1 did valve clearance / decarbon valve? care to comment ?

Any performance difference after this service ? eg smoother ?

when is the time i know i have to do the valve service?

how much is cost?

2. i serviced my carb + new plug at N the revving seems fine..

however engine vibration seems abit stronger/ sluggish acceleration (effect felt most wif pillion and around 4k to 6k rpm, doesnt have thoque to climb slope or travel uphill. **need to rev hard sia) .

doesnt sound smooth to me . however my plug is new... could it be my plug cable tat is malfunctioning? or my valve is out of spec ?

3. ani 1 know the function of a cable ( brakse hose lookalike ) connecting from top block to gear box? its juz between the carb n block.

i heard its a pressure cable. but unsure of its function. cos my like leakin..

walk along the stretch of shops on the same road as planet motor (3007 ubi ave 3) and u'll see a shop with a g4 on sale.. should be easy to find coz thats the only shop displaying a g4

Its better to think for a minute than to talk crap for an hour. Better talk crap for an hour than to keep quiet the whole day..

sorry bro wanna ask abit, when u serviced ur carb, did the response/pickup improve?

could it be the carb setting/tuning that caused the probs? not sure actually but can a malfunctioned plug cable cause engine vibration?

for the slope climbing thing, which gear are you at?

When you pillion someone its expected that you will need more throttle den w/o pillion to get the same amount of force/torque due to the additional weight of the pillion.

What do you mean by not smooth as well? any specific rhythm or symptom that can describe the not smooth thingy? like the sound of your exhaust, engine rev etc.

For valve clearance, there is no specific rule of thumb. Some like to follow the owner manual(if there still is any), do the respective servicing at the specific mileage. Going by this rule almost all G4s should go for one since the mileage would haf been quite alot and i dun tink many owners know of doing valve clearance exists.(or bother to do one)

Some prefer "if it ain't broken, don't fix it" rule, some juz do it when they feel they got the dough.

My personal experience with valve clearance, with proper tuning it gives a more consistent and better mileage compared to previously without doing valve clearance. Of cos thats a personal view. At the same time you can check out your timing chain as well. Kills 2 birds with 1 stone. Valve clearance takes a lot of time n effort so its gonna cost you. If any of the 8 or 16(can't rem how many) shims need replacing, then thats gonna cost a few bucks per piece. Workmanship is gonna be the main bulk of the cost. Ask ard the motorshops for a rough gauge of the price.

Of cos if you dun tink you wanna spend that kind of money, nothing is gonna go wrong. My personal feel is that your bike will treat you the way you treat it. Maintain it well and it will go a long way to serving you well.

Mabbe we can check it out for you during one of our next outings......

chris, for valve clearance I dun think all shims need to be replaced upon wear and tear? I see that some of the shims which had been worn out can be reused to replace the smaller or watever deem it is correct, shims

Yeah not all need to be replaced, as long as its still withing specs it can still be used.... Those that fall out of the range of required measurements have to be replaced..... depending on the condition of the shims, sometimes a few or most of them have to be changed. It all depends on luck, so be prepared to change at least half of the shims juz in case.

mmmm i not begin to suspec is my coil...

i read from wikipedia tat if coil is malfunctionin... when high rev spark will misfire..

my case exactly....

1-4k rpm smooth n good aft carb service...

travel on highway then can feel the shlt.. 6k can feel misfiring... exhaust sound changes from smooth to choking sound... sometimes its more jialat.. the bike will jerk forward n backward( like u on n off throttle like that ) is this mis firing already?

since mis firing = no spark = no power = not moving = engin brake = the feeling i gt ?

What was the problem?

What did they do or not do that made you disappointed? Or what did you ask them to do for you?

ok, they change plug wifout my knowledge. $12 a plug sia...

infact 2 of the plug is still new, so if there were to change .. only need to change 2.

i went to service my bike becos its nt smooth.. aft service oso same... meaning problem not rectify.. aft service carb. i tell them the problem still exist... they say its my riding pattern gt problem... nt very willing to try n understand my problem n get it resolve...

they insist that my bike is in gd cond when they rev n feel the smoothness at N gear.. cos i told them its diff when riding in real road...

1 more problem is when i accelerate hard and clutch in close throttle . engine will die leh... but they like dun believe me .. say its impossible, unless i trip the sidestand...

therefore i think their troubleshooting knowledge is limited sia..

aniwae.. their servicing of carb is gd la... $30 plus, but make sure dun change plug etc there.. dam ex...
