There is a speedo gear at the axle of the front wheel that link up to ur speedometer cia a speedo cable. That's where ur speed readings came from.

I have been noticing that the forum is kinda quiet nowdays. Think it's because everybody's bike is running smoothly without any problems. Henceforth no one put up any queries except those new birds wannabes. Personally have been riding it for 1 and half year nearing two..Still serving me well. Can't imagine myself without transportation. In this 1 and half year, experienced lotsa "narrow misses" half contributed by taxi drivers... A couple of personal accidents... But most importantly..hell lotsa fun... :cheer: With every near-misses, skill and experience will improve.. sad to say..too have some friends upgrading to bigger CC bikes.. For me 400cc is enough..

In all, just wana say Love Riding, Love GSXR. :thumb:

Well... for starters.

Full tank capacity how many liters and when on reserved, how much left? :help:

And what are the necessary mods or changes required when getting over this bike?

Also anyone selling a stock GSX400 muffler?

Well, if you take time to read thru the threads you will find answers to ur questions. But to save time. Full tank 16L. Reserve 3L. Main 13 L.

1 problem of GSXR is electric. Due to wore out wiring and "old metal contacts in socket". One of the problem you will face is melt socket or warped socket. This is due to heat build up due to poor electric conductivity at the socket. Prone areas are (1)"Rectifier => wiring" socket, (2)"Wiring => Fuse Box" socket, (3) "Headlight => wiring" socket. Preventive measure is to take time and effort to unplug the sockets. Check the contact point, clean them with contact cleaner. Or cut away the socket. Replace with $0.50 wire lug.

GSXR is a bike that require daily riding. Leave it idle for 2-3 days and you have problem starting it or wun run as smooth. Best to have it parked in MSCP where temperature is warmer than open space carpark where it's exposed to rain and condensation in the morning. Once water vapour condense in your fuel tank, you have to rev your bike hard while riding to remove them b4 your bike run smooth again.

Heat is another issue. Due to wored out rubber tubing and dirt accumulated in the radiator. The cooling is not as efficient as b4 but still will suffice for normal use. If possible, dismantle and radiator and all the coolant tubing..look inside.. :giddy: and give them a good scrub..

Faulty CDI is another issue which cannot be avoided. Due to old age, CDI tend to fail. A 2nd replacement cost around $200 but currently, I am looking for someone who is rumoured to be able to repair CDI..

Currently these are the few problems I encountered and solved.

1 modifcation I am looking into now is "Customised Wiring from CDI to Spark Plug"

Due to old age, our sparkplug are not firing as powerful as b4 due to wire age. I am looking for an electrician that know how to make a customised wiring with high conductivity material to link the CDI and Spark PLugs. Anyone interested to help?

I can't go but I'm interested to know what you guys find out at Guan Hoe. Planning to go there in August for a major service. Do they take Visa, anyone?

The prices for some stuffs a bit high(some r cheap, but fewer items), but the standart is there.

I know u r in KL, what major servicing u plan to do? If ur bike is in stock condition and plan to keep it stock, can try guan hoe. If urs is with lots of mod, maybe should try other places.

Thanks Ae86.

Will tear apart the bike and check on all the wirings.

What you said abt the ignition wires is quite true as of the carbs and the CDI.

But will be costly to replace all of them.... Kekekeke...

BTW, do you suggest making the exhaust muffler a straight thru one???

Another thing,RR model is restricted. Anyone know where to unrestrict it or how to?

Possible to use an older model CDI???

Anyway, hopefully can join u guys for some sort of outings.

But I feel that the most impoortant is taking care of the CDI as it cost a bomb when buying 1st hand.

Overall it's a great ride to have.

Life short, play hard

You will be sorry when you see me.

Speed is not how fast you can go,

But how fast you can handle.

Ppl always think they\'re good but

It\'s others tat judge them not themselve.

A straight thru muffler will sound better and should stay within legal sound limit.

Changing of CDI as "Tealeaf" had said does play a part. RR CDI will restrict you to 14500 RPM will P model, L model CDI enable you to Rev to the end of the red line. However, the powerband of GSxr is only within 7-8krpm and 12-13k rpm. Once over, acceleration decreases.

According to somepeople I heard. just get a sharp metal with the diameter slightly smaller than the silencer..then punctured the silencer by sticking it in and wack.

woala..U got a straight thru.

I had my share of worrying about Uncle Sam pulling me over on my bike.....

So I just will stick to a stock bike for once. :D

mine was done by seng kwang at ang mo kio autopoint.

didnt know what was really done as its brought there by ex-owner. he said the whole exhaust is dismantled and taken/cut apart, then something inside is removed, something else is fitted, then reassembled/welded etc...

sounds pretty stock maybe abit more bassy, horsepower gain i got no idea since i've never tried with a stock muffler b4. i went thru 2 inspections & passed with it.

whacking with a stick isnt a good idea :goodluck:

Test my bike today..found out that after getting from bike shop.. Bike has better low range but mid range and top end suck big time.. Think they changed my main jet and pilot screws..damn..

Thanks Tealeaf for showing me how to push-start the bike. Kekeke....

When I reached home, off and tried to e-start the thing and it works!

Hmmm..... The starter I just keep for spare. Kekekek...

Thanks again.

It's a lot more convenient if they accept credit cards coz 1) have to guess the cost and change money for that amount beforehand, plus some extra cash for contingencies 2) I dun like travelling with a lot of money in my wallet

ANYWAY...

I think I'm starting to like my new sprocket ratio. Previously on 15/45 setting, while I get 500RPM lower rev to cruise at the speed limit, I find that the bike's roll-on acceleration suffers horribly once past 170km/h. It would still make 210km/h but after 170km/h the needle will climb oh-so-slowly even with the throttle wide open.

But now with 14/47 sprockets, the bike pulls cleanly all the way! Managed to whack 200km/h opn the old Subang airport highway before running out of road last nite, and even at that speed it was still pulling. Didn't get a good look at the RPM but I think there was still about 1,000RPM left over before redline. Maybe it'll pull all the way up to 220km/h... this I must test one day!

A 0.36 reduction in gearing really does have a huge difference in performance. Hmm..
