YZF-R15 rider, GATHER!!!

Mine was told to go for inspection myself when i bought it. but i never went as i thought got the cert was ok. i think its a waste if i give it to the bike shop. Thought of selling it away but nah. just trade with an original pipe would do since the shop wants original. You can hv it if you want. just need to go for inspection thats all. i think.

just one thing. One of the screws on the silencer is missing. i suspect some **** tried to steal my silencer b4 but couldnt get the other screw to losen. i replaced with a diff screw.

Guys, I dropped my bike and the whole inner core of the throttle came out. So i was thinking if it is possible that I can change my whole handle bar to the R6 handle bar.. Will it fit??

Could be your fuel pump.

Maybe you can try to listen if there is a sound of a device sucking smth when you start bike. That sound will last some 3 to 4 sec.

no battery issues the last i checked at workshop.

uhh, don't quite get which sound u're referring to. but I do yea this rather high pitched sound (about 3 times) before the bike gets started.

Put your ear to your fuel tank or your hand to the bottom part (near to our seat). You should heard something like a device drawing fuel or vibration.

If there is.. Check your red engine switch. If it is on and there is no sound or vibration, means your fuel pump spoilt already.

 

The whistling sound you might had encountered is just fuel vapor escaping through your fuel cap. I presume.

the bike is able to start, with some resistance though. don't quite get the sound part, will keep trying.

will faulty fuel pump affect led light? I notice the display dims, while bike struggles to start. when it doesn't start, the whole display goes off. headlights on though. brought this issue up at the workshop, was told no problem with battery.

 

how much would it cost to replace fuel pump?

- Looks well taken care of

- engine feels and sounds smooth when revving

- no visible dents or scratches anywhere

 

The only thing that worries me is that even though the bike is less than 4 years old, it has already clocked more than 96,000km. Should I avoid buying it? I am worried that once it exceeds 100,000km, the engine will need to be overhauled. And I definitely cannot afford that.

End 2009 would made it 3 years odd? (40months average)

96K @ 40 months = 2,400km a month! Which is.. BTW.. wooping lot.

 

Coming from a seller's point of view,

you cannot just tell from mileage and pictures. Of course! Mileage plays a vital role but if properly maintenance is in place, I still believe it would be a good bike. (Since R15 is really a hassle free bike).

 

You need to listen to the engine (any rumbling, rusty, noisy clicking etc), test the brakes, accelerator is responsive, any leakage at the "joint" when your head block meets the lower engine block externally.. Any leakage such as engine oil screw cap at the bottom, coolant hose leakage, crack on hose.. brake line.. Brake disc is it deeply marked or not. There are alot of things to look out for in a 2nd hand bike actually.

 

@ 100,000km typically.. you dont need to strictly overhual. Or rather.. With proper care, you wouldn't even need to do so. A single cylinder, fuel injection (means bye bye to water retention and carbon buildup) and 150cc (or less) does not equal damages. You don't even need an additive such as a 2T to lube the engine piston. So IMO, you only need to over haul (as a very particular owner) should you find the bike sluggish, lack of obvious power and choked.

 

Words can play in many way.. But an experience rider would suffice to put the bike through the test. So.. really have a couple of rider friends to check it out. Outlook can be easily cover up.. But the inside is one tough area to cheat. I bet many of us here don't even clean what is under our own seat... right? HEHE!

Both ur gain and my gain abit too. used for 2 year. minor scratch. i have all the cert and its lTa approved with silencer.
