Hey peeps out there..

I'm actually considering my first bike right now while saving up. My eyes have set upon TZM (still keeping my options open to sports bike) but I'm worried about the durability of it as most of them are approaching the 10th year mark so the rate of wear & tear and break down would be super high.

Is there any experience/thoughts on the maintenance part as I've come across many post about the TZM having high maintenance cost compared to others.

=)

If previous owner took good care of the bike then it would be quite problem free except for the minor replacement of wear and tear parts..Otherwise it will be a nightmare..And do learn more about the bike beforehand so if need be you need to send it to shop for some repairs you don't get cheated..:thumb:

I have tried to see things from your point of view..But no matter how hard I try..Or what I do..I just can't get my head that far up my butt..

A TZM will make a mechanic outta' u... unless u find one in a good condition. Which is unlikely..

go buy a tzm and rebuild it.

it's not really expensive provided u avoid being carrot.. hehe

tzm extra maintainance only clean the power valves, which is quite simple.

wouldnt recommend you to get an old bike as your first bike... if things keep going wrong with the bike (parts worn out from wear and tear) and you dont know what's wrong with it or what is normal and what is not, you may end up spend more time worrying about the bike, worrying about getting chopped, than actually riding and enjoying it... will become very stressful n not a good way to get started with riding...

unless you have a lot of friends that are knowledgeable about bikes... then they can advise you regarding the bike and that shouldnt be a problem

boring rider. with a boring bike.

too old to want to appear interesting anymore.

Well,

if you are a total newbie (we are all when we started out), you have a high chance of being a unhappy carrot.

Many 2nd hand bikes are used and abused, sorry, but thats the fact.

If your budget limites you to a 2nd hand bike, then probably you should bring along a more experienced friend when you go bike shopping.

All bikes looks nice with that shiny, new paintwork. So, it best to have a friend (non-newbie!!!!) with you while you go look around for bikes to buy. This way, you will be less likely pressured into hasty purchases.

Well...if you need to rebuild a bike, then why spend $$$ to buy it in the first place...unless it is really dirt cheap, and the time, money and worries spend is really worth that cost saving.

All those TZMs, SPs, KRRs are approaching their 10th year or so.

Of couse, some are in great condition with careful owners. But frankly speaking, a 10 year old bike which passed through several hands, you really need a huge dose of luck when u go bike shopping at the shops.

Guess many of us have seen those bikes with bent forks, skewed rims, broken meters...etc. Where they all go? Not all go to the scrap yard.

Best regards.
