Hi Riders,

Your help is greatly appreciated.

I just passed my Class 2B on 26th Nov 09. :cheeky:

I'm desperately looking for a affordable 2nd hand Spark.

I'm gna pay by installments, not enough $$$$$.

My question is, is it better to buy from forum or shop?

If shop, please recommend me a trustworthy shop.

I went to a few shops however, I am confused as they offer different insurance.

One shop offer NUTC 2nd party - ard $2k

The other shop offer ASA 2nd party - ard $1

Whats the difference?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Regards,

Rene

Hi,

1) if you buy a 2nd hand bike please be careful not to get a lemon and end up paying more for repair.

2) Insurance is base on age and also individual company. So price will vary. Ppl like me will choose the cheapest. Cos insurance like 3rd party is only to cover other road user. But if you cover fire and theft will be more ex. Cos its to cover your own property.

Some insurance company cover some specific bike at a higher premium. Like Super 4 and RXZ have very different premium.

3) if you are saying you are paying by installment then i think you have no choice buy to get from shop. Unless there is a forumer which is willing to let you Carry On Installment with his bike. BUT!!!! the bike is still under his property. Thus end of the day you still dun get the bike. But pay as you ride only.

4) Once your bike is under hire purchase i think the insurance you need to get is minimum 2nd party. This i dunno cos i dun own a 1st hand bike or expensive bike before.

My advise is, save up more and slowly scout for a good condition bike. What's the rush?

well done on passing tp! now u have a zillion more things to learn!:faint:

personally i think if get from forummer slightly better coz dez some good deals. possible to arrange loan from bike shop also, if u wanna get from forummer.

but i think if u 1st time getting bike, no diff, shop or forummer, will also "try" to tok u if they realise they can (only human). so get an experienced friend to go with u ba.

if u r desperate, DUN let the seller feel it, else lagi chop until no bones left. :sian: even if u really like the bike, act like u have a million choices from a billion other shops etc.

whatever price shop quote u, minus 500 straightaway, that's abt the "best price", like if u noe e owner personally...

if buy from shop, compare interest rate too! 4% per year and 7% per year is BIG DIFF!

What do you mean by hire purchase?

Roughly how much in total do i have to spend to buy a 2nd hand Spark?

(If i buy 2nd party insurance, i'm 19.)

Hire Purchase means under installment.

As for a 2nd spark well i not too sure cant comment. cos never own one before.

But the best way is, the check with any bike shop or registered Spark Yamaha dealer to ask for a brand new spark price. Then you gauge from there lor. At least you have a reference of the brand new actual price of a brand new stock spark.

If you buying 2nd hand please take note of how many years of COE left. And also dun be fooled by wat ever accessories that the owner have put in and then jack a high price to you. even how it still should not be as expensive as brand new. Cos it definately is not as good/fresh/newer than a brand new bike.

Unless you like the owner modification so much that you are willing to pay the price. i say again "PAY THE PRICE" cos some things are modified but not legal then you will have some problems when inspection.

Where is that located?

Try going Autopoints like Kaki Bukit. There is alot of bike shop at level 2. Bukit Merah also have. Ang Mo Kio also have.

Depending on where you live then mabbe we can highlight to you some where near your area since you dun have a transport at the mean time.

unfortunately, none that i personally tried are known for their good deals. im just glad to have a "normal" shop that solves my prob, NOT earn my $ FIRST. even that shop also not known for their good deals.

if u considering spark, may i also psycho u a bit with x1r? :cheeky: u may wanna go spark thread to find out the pricing now. for 1st hand and 2nd hand. under "cubs"

This is what i personally feel and heard from people.

NTUC insurance is pricy because it's a local insurance company therefore it caters to the needs and interest of the customers when it comes to insurance claims and etc. It is significantly reliable though. Hence, it is much more expensive.

AXA however is a foreign company providing insurance policies for locals here. I've heard that their insurance claims are much cheaper due to the age limit barrier they imposed. Only riders who are above 20 years old are eligible to apply for their insurance policies. But i have friends who are 18 but they are covered under AXA. So i don't really understand the clause.

What i can suggest to you is that, you should check what the insurance polices cover and go for the safer choice although it may burn a bigger hole in your pocket. Because at the end of the day, if anything happens to you or the bike, at least you'll know that you and your bike will be covered and also if there are any other parties involved.

Good Luck Bro ! :thumb:

Hahahhah, but I'm not a 'bro' :cheeky:

I've decided to get a Spark.

But it's difficult to find a stock Spark in the forum.

(I admit, I'm fussy about the color too. hahah. I like black Spark.)

Perhaps I should just get a 2nd hand Spark from shop.

Hmmmmmmmmm.
