My fren riding the dr200...more to offroad...he been to thai with it...and bringing it again...for touring...guess best bet will be the varadero125...as for terra adventure...not many around...sure the look is impressive...reliability not really sure....but guess derbi does make quality bikes...my neighbourhood have one around...damn its so tempting!....

you are right...i suppose any of the bikes would work...a matter of which compromises are better for the ride...

...still...would love to hear from some terra riders...

Honest opinion from a Vara rider. I think what the bike is capable of doing is what TS wants. Panniers looks good, use semi off road and bike can do trail....not hard core but its always bout the rider and not the ride. The vara riders in the vara thread have been to and survived trails with the scrams. Usually i cruise comfortably at 90-100km/h which is the limit anyways. And yes, the vara can hit 120....some can even hit 135. Its true that Vara doesnt have much power.....the 125 says it doesnt it??? However for what it has, offers and can do, i think its a good bike. Stable too.

I have seen a Terra 125 up close, Acayasyraf's bike, heard the engine too and he big bored it to 150. I do not know how much additional power it adds though. The difference is in engine, tank size and in some ways, size of bike. I recommend TS to go to the Terra distributor to get a feel of the bike.

When time comes simon, mebbe we can ride Transalp 400 together yeah.

I want to see the world and i'm pretty sure the world wants to show a little something to me.

@Finrod: you said it man...certainly will be looking for class 2a when the time comes. for now, am inquiring from shops about used varadero 125s and will be trying out the terra over the weekend (if they are open). wanna come along?

cruise at 100-110km/h

top speed 120-135km/h

can sustain high rpm 11k-12k for extremely long hours

engine never seems to heat up

never heard of an engine needing a overhual or rebuild b4

v-twin minimises vibrations

seat is comfortable (an understatement)

pillion seat comfortable enough for the chick behind to fall asleep!

standard maintainence procedures will keep the bike problem free

headlight good enough for nsh touring

huge fuel tank..usually can hit 380-420km b4 reserve and another 50km to go

able to put panniers and top box and will look darn cool

handling is awesome on road...you can scrap the pegs easily if you want to

off road handling is dependent on rider

can handle mud, sand, rocks and even the occasional "small" jumps

most individuals whom have owned this beauty have had their virgin pilgrimage to Thailland. furthest i've heard is pataya i think.

cambodia and laos might be in the planning:angel:

very good resale value

even better buch of mates to introduce you to the bike...pass on all the knowledge you require and ride with you as far you wanna go.

nothing wrong with the rest of your narrowed down options...

I jus think the Varadero 125 is the best for me (and maybe for you).:thumb::angel:

feel free to join any meet ups and PM and of the local Vara ambassadors for a chat.

:)A

cheers

PS: you can find pics of the beauty on my picassa web album.

Hi Bros,

I was lately searching thru websites and found this news release on Kawasaki

I was originally (like others here in this community) drooling over as Derbi terra (look like a BMW GS) and when I started searching on the web, I discovered Kawasaki has a Super Motard version

Not sure if the local Kawa dealer will bring in or have it ... some one out in this community should know.

I read the entire Derbi thread in this bike forum, 2 things were clear to me.

a. The dealership is limited and hence, the price is quite high

$10K for a new bike OTR? That's quite steep for a 2B bike

b. Seems like you have to wait for parts...

I was trying to search if Derbi uses a Suzuki based engine (still searching)

Jap engines are good since they have been in the motorbike biz longer..

Derbi is a Spanish made bike.

I dunno, I lived and spent my earlier years in Spain (Barcelona) and I gotta say Spanish quality as bad as British workmanship (ha ha ha, its the truth) and so even tho the Derbi looks nice, I am worried about the quality and reliability.

BTW the Kawasaki DTracker looks *****ing too. I hope Singapore has the 150cc D Tracker and thats probably what I will end up owning.

I like to go for a 2A class.. but dont have much time to go for the test. So 2B class bikes is all I can think of now.
