Hi all,

I am planning a lone trip to Malacca.

I have only done petrol runs to M'sia in JB.

This will be my first touring trip.

Those experienced tourers, riders, do not hesitate to give me advices.

Some qns from me are as follows

-What do I need to prepare for this trip? Need to get autopass or whatever cashcard thingy to pass through the Highway Toll?

-How much is the toll?

-Where can I get maps for Malacca and for the NSH?

-Whether a PGM4 can make it through and fro to Malacca from SG?

These are the qns for now. Will update if anymore comes to my mind :)

Thanks!!!

That's why I always believe in LUCK! :cheeky:

as far as i know, motorcycles do not need to pay toll to use the nse.

When are you going? I'm going this weekend on 15th Jan.

Just prepare some rm ba, since you probably need it for touch-n-go card, toll charge, petrol, parking fee, etc...

Toll around RM3 to and fro. Total only 2 tolls for bikes. Theres a lane on the left for bikes to just skirt all the other tolls. Malacca not so far so just bring some cash, touch n go card and make sure the bike is on OK condition.

Take care n enjoy the trip.

If you go by woodlands causeway, no toll needed. If you go by Tuas causeway, you need to prepare cashcard to pay for toll ($0.50 one way) at SG custom and Touch & Go card to pay at the toll booth (rm1.30 one way) after the malaysia custom. The rest of the highway no need to pay toll at all. Just keep to the left when approaching the toll, there is a special bike lane for you to go through. Normally is just a small lane with a bike sign. Just pay the same thing when coming back SG.

Just bring along some tools, tire patch kit etc. For your case, 2T also. Make sure you know your bike fuel consumption as you travel fast, the bike will consume more petrol. Plan the petrol stations to stop. There are a few petrol stations along the way.

1) GP esso (the 1st petrol station after the custom). Usually ppl will take distance reference from here.

2) Kulai Shell - 40km+ from GP esso

3) Machap - 80km from GP esso

4) Pagoh - 150km from GP esso

From there you will exit Ayer Keroh exit where there are many petrol stations along the way to Malacca central. I will suggest pump at GP esso, Machap and exit Ayer Keroh. No harm stopping more if you are feeling tired. You understand your bike better as in the fuel/2T consumption.

Map can be purchased from the GP esso petrol station. Or you can preplan and print out the map from Google Map.

Your bike definately can go to Malacca. Some rode 2 stroke up to Thailand also. Just that don't over stress the bike incase piston jam.

Hi to all!!

Thanks for the quick reply.

I am planning to go April/May. Gonna ride there, stay a day at those budget hotel and come back the following day.

Somethings that I have just thought of:

-Is the Ayer Keroh exit easy to spot. Cause I know m'sia signboard all in malay and I don't really understand. except for common one like AWAS or Selamat Datang Melaka. Ahahaha.

-And the Petrol Stops is it like those Highway R&R stops??? What will it be written on the signboard if it is a R&R stop?? like and pictures or anything??

That's why I always believe in LUCK! :cheeky:

If you going alone and wish to tag along, meet us at 8 pm at Gelang Patah R&R tomorrow. Welcome...slow ride and going into some kampong roads too.

NSH sign are clear and easy to read. But when you are in Malacca town, that is where traffic get confusing sometime but if you have time on hand then just means a few more turn to get to where you want to be.

Here is the a number you should keep but let's hope never ever need to use it, its a Msia towing service by this guys call Simon - +60127989283

Just remember when you are riding try not to stress you bike so nothing will happen and like someone suggested to you already, bring along 2T for your bike. And some handy tools if you can do some DIY if needed.

Malacca isn't that far away and the first time might be scary on lone ride, just remember to relax and take it easy. There is nothing that can not be solve. I use to just ride there for Chicken rice ball for lunch and then take the small truck road back all on the same day :)

Just remember to buy the local blown up map bro, but sometimes being lost is where the fun comes in. U get to explore places that u wont willingly explore. Anyway u can just ask around for directions.

Have a safe trip and enjoy the ride.

Cheers!

1) The signs are relatively clear. just keep a look out of the distance to your exit points so you know when to slow down.

2)the petrol stations recommended are within the R&R area. just exit to the R&R spots and the stations are just in front.

remember:

1) don't leave your belongings unattended even at the R&R places or petrol stations

2) bring a raincoat ; cause it keeps raining these days

3) It may be a good idea to service your bike before going.

4) wear proper gear.

When touring, its usually the rider that give way first before the bike itself.

got box got tour.

Just return from Melaka, so here's some stuffs I noted:

- motorcycles keep left when at custom or at toll plaza, unless otherwise stated

- touch-n-go card is "touch" and "go", so dun kuku look for an attendant inside unless you want to do top up

- last petrol stop I saw before entering Melaka is at Pagoh, so do refuel there if your bike can take you less than 200km, assuming your last top up is at GP Esso

- foreign vehicle can only top up RON97 and above - government regulation. Not sure how far it extends to

- if your are travelling at 95km/h, prepare to travel for 3h 30 mins from GP Esso to Melaka :). For me I took a short rest at Machap and Pagoh before straight to Melaka

- In Melaka, short rain is the late afternoon

- big road notice board are clear enough and easy to understand, but street sign aren't that obvious, I only saw them at each end of the junction. Still, rmembering your street names helps. For me I couldn't find the in-between street names to my hotel, so I look for the last street name where my hotel is. Luckily it's shown on the board

- If you are staying in hotel, remember your hotel logo. You might be able to see them from a far when you are getting close

to move to melaka please make sure ur bike is in gd working condition as you would not want you bike to break down halfway. The tow charges would be pretty high. Make sure ur engine oil, brake pads, coolant, spark plug and blah blah are in gd condition.

Very much pretty straight forward route up to melaka.

Move off from GP Esso

Watch out for a split road which indicate melaka/Kuala Lumpur and the other is Johor/Skudai.

Make sure u take the melaka/kuala lumpur turn which is on the left side

Stop at pagoh (my only stop) refill and smoke

Move off and watch out for ayer keroh/bandaraya melaka and exit.

Follow road sign to jalan bendaraya.

I normally stay at bayview hotel and the hotel's carpark is on the 2nd floor.
