Then it would die down. It's akin to having a heart attack.

Then kickstart couldnt work but pushstart works.

Anybody knows whats wrong with it? It's an old RD125LC

More information needed, luda. What symptoms occur before it dies, any changes made to the RD recently? If the push-start works and the bike runs normally, then is the motorcycle dying in the first few kms the only thing that's bugging you?

Hmm for symptoms, I just noe that my rpm drop drastically. Tried throttling after engine died but get no to little response. No changes to the RD cept the change of front fairing(Headlight).

ya, did u just got this bike?

cos rd is more then 15 years and much of the parts are pretty well gone.. so u need to change alot of things to settle every problem.. this problem i think might be

*fuel tank full with rust, so the fuel is already (dirty).

*carb inside all rust and dirty

*plug coil ignition problem

*kick starter problem

hope all this help u

Discounting any major mechanical problems such as a worn piston ring etc, first look at the electrical system. Any frayed wires conducting where it shouldn't? Battery charging as it should? Clean the contacts of all connectors and plug caps where possible for a more robust electrical system, considering the age of your machine. Check the condition of your spark plug, it reveals a lot.

Next, move on to the air-side. Is your engine getting enough air for combustion? Clean your air filters or remove any blockages, if any.

Lastly, ensure your petrol lines aren't kinked. Old lines tend to become soft and kink easily.

For the certainty of death and the knowledge of life's fragility, makes it worth living.

The older model bikes used to have a fine wire mesh filter at the fuel tap bowl which is mounted to the bottom of the fuel tank.

It is a size 12mm or 10mm square nut at the bottom of the bowl. Turn the fuel tap to the OFF position and remove the fuel tap bowl and clean out the filter.

If the filter gets badly clogged with rust particles it will restrict the flow of fuel to the carb making the bike behave like its running out of fuel coz the short distance of riding will use up whatever fuel in the carb bowl but is not topped up in time.

The bike will restart after waiting a few minutes, coz that will give time for the petrol to slowly fill up the carb bowl to full again.

In fact if you pay close attention, you will notice that the rpms will climb by itself just before the engine dies off as the fuel mixture gets leaner and leaner due to the lack of fuel in the carb bowl.

Used to have this problem when my neighbour bought an LC125.First check your coolant and radiator,Hose,Oil seal.Second your CDI maybe gone case,Most bike shop just change to a third hand one just to make the bike start.Third your tank,Probably full of rust therefore its choke and fuel supply was interrupted hence the bike die.I suggest you go for full servicing including piston, block, decarbonised your pipe, drain your coolant, wash radiator, change new ignition coil/plug cable,CDi..Standby SGD 300.Go JB.

Wow!!... read this fella's problem then had a flash back to my own LC years ago....

So many causes as stated in the earlier posts, got to examine all of it.

Maybe i help with a chronological order of things to do.....

Always begin w/o wearing your helmet. ahahaha. can sweat/swear alot.

1. try to kick start, w/ and w/o throttle. bikes starts then good, if not proceed to point 2

2. Kick start bike while holding the choke with left hand, alternate with throttle n no throttle.

3. Ensure there's petrol in carb but also not flooding it, so after awhile, just close the fuel tap.

4. Tired already. Take a break

5. Try to kick standing beside bike if you've been sitting on bike and vice versa.

6. Push start...... no nid so detail, this one you should be expert liao.

7. Now take out spark plug tool and remove/check spark plug. Replace wth new one OR some other re-con ones.... This is assuming carburation is too rich, OR maybe 2T pump is simply pumping out too much 2T, thus plug foul.

8. Still cannot, then maybe CDI...

9. Still cannot ah??! Wiring?? PLug lead loose?

haaiizzz.....too many possibilities, but try to rectify those that can be DIYed easily

10. in the end, jus keep push starting lo.

11. Enjoy the ride at 7000RPM and beyond!!!!

12. if still cannot start, just KICK the bike!!

i recall my 1st LC was so dam hard to start, i contemplated removing the kickstarter , replying on push-start alone..

Cause? Worn-out piston.

LCs are wonderful bikes to ride though as long as it starts nicely.

Have fun!!

Bike sounds like straving of petrol. Older bike usually have alot of rust in the fuel tank. Try flushing the rust out from the tank and at the same time clean the fuel filter and Carb.
