I anyhow flame ppl ?

Since the shop couldn't retify his problem, he should go back there to question them instead of asking on the forum.

If u want to ask where good to service or where to fix cheap, forum is good place.

How many ppl here are mechanics to properly diagnose a mechnical problem over the internet ???

U can see his bike and know the problem meh ?

Foreign websites they help cuz they really know how to fix bikes.

So they can really help u with alot of technical know-hows.

Here, so many riders can't even change a tyre.

That includes me too.

So isn't it more wise to get a reputable mechanic to solve ur bikes problem rather then asking someone here ?

If u have fever, u go online asking ppl for assistance ha ?

Yes panadol is a common remedy, but what if the fever is due to some other virus ?

I hope u get what i mean.

so with reference to what you're saying, you will never ever come online and ask anyone for help when you have bike problems right? you'll straight away consult bike shop, and even when bike shop still can't solve your problem, you'll just keep cheonging bike shops when sometimes just trying out your luck online could have led to an easy fix for you?

i've always consulted friends online as a first resolution then seek assistance from bike shop. so far that has worked out pretty well. there are riders here who do their own diy. and some have experienced the same problems before. at least getting an idea here may help them pinpoint the problem out to the mechanics at the bike shop.

I never consult online for my bike problems.

But i do consult the forum on where to get the best bargains on products and services.

U cannot compare local forums to those based overseas.

For example their bikes almost always use parts from other bikes.

So they share what they know.

They also machine or fabricate some parts and sometimes even complete breakdown and overhaul their bikes.

Always posting pics starting from scratch.

If u think that the mechanic u are going to is no better than fellow forumers, then i strongly advice u to seek another competent mechanic.

Well, you must be the minority few then.

A lot of us here consult the guys on sgbikes to have a larger picture of whatever problem they may encounter.

Many others may have the same problem as me before, and hence, i can ask what could have been their problem.

An example would be when my bike rpm suddenly went up when i opened up my big big throttle at a certain gear and speed. I learnt from the guys in this forum that it could be worn out clutch plates and hey presto, it was really my clutch plates when my mech test rode my bike.

Another time would be that when my bike was hard to start after riding in the rain for weeks. Some people gave views on how i could fix my problem from checking spark plugs to changing engine oil. From these suggestions, i concluded that there was water in my carb/engine/pipe and went to rev my engine for a few second at red-line and hey presto! Its easy to start again! This not only increased my knowledge of bikes but also saved me money from going to the mech to ask him to rectify my problems.

TS asking for suggestions on how come his bike cannot stop. There are so many reason but who knows, perhaps someone might know his problem spot on. Knowing the symptoms can direct you to the problems and the possible remedy. Take for example, someone has the symptoms of flu. Ask me what is wrong with him, i suggest to him that he might be down with flu. He may choose to self medicate if he can or go to the doctor. If his flu symptoms are minor, why waste money go to the doctor?

This same analogy can be applied when it comes to troubleshooting problems with bikes, or even computers or anything in that matter.

Scenario A

1) My bike has symptoms.

2) I ask for suggestions on what may be wrong with it.

3) I try to troubleshoot.

4) I know the problem.

5) If it can be fixed by myself, i fix it.

6) If it can't i go to the mechanic.

Scenario B

1) My bike has symptoms.

2) I ask for suggestions on what may be wrong with it.

3) I try to troubleshoot.

4) I do not know the problem.

5) I consult to the mechanic.

To sum it up, there are indeed benefits of consulting others in the forum regarding bike problems. We can save money, learn more about our bikes and save time from making the trip to the mechanic.

Maybe you super rich can go to mechanic and ask him to solve everything for you. People like me, if i can save money and change myself, i rather do it. Or perhaps your house is right beside your mechanic. TS asking for help on why his engine cannot stop. You got a logical reason then post it. Even an idiot knows of course go to a mechanic if got problem but one of the reasons he may post this up is to know the list of possible causes so that he can have a larger picture of how much to spend in the worst case scenario and such.

I actually wasted my time explaining this to you. But sgbikes being a forum where we all share and learn from each other, i think its worth it to teach individuals like you "Why people post in this forum regarding bike problems". :thumb:

PS: Just because you cannot change tyre doesn't mean other people cannot change tyre. Who's knows that TS is the kind of handy person like some of us? Joker haha. If you don't even want to contribute possible problems to TS, dont take out your flame thrower and flame people. It's like if someone asks for help, then you stand there, point at him and laugh at his face ask him get help from someone else. If know how to help, help. You dunno, keep quiet.

i wonder why somebody who would never come to a forum to ask about bike problems be reading this particular post...or this particular section :D

anyway, this section is for people for want to do hands on and ask hands on types of questions on their bikes. so it is normal for that to happen.

Can be done by searching "New Posts" and posting relevant and respectful advices/remarks.

Anyone can ride a bike. Being a biker, is a state of mind.

If you have done troubleshooting for any field, whether is it computing or engineering, trial and error is the basis of troubleshooting problems. Read up on flowcharts.

some circuit (ignition coil?) still supplying current to spark plug despite ignition OFF? Perhaps check on wiring/contact, since TS still able to "kill" the engine before. Hopefully it helps? Peace!

You know nuts about something doesnt mean someone else know nuts about it too..

Why cant there be mechs on the forum too? or experienced riders who face similar problem before?

You are simply just a god damn dumb follower.

No one know 100% of everything which of course including your mech. What makes you think your mech dont do your so called trial and error before he get things done. Just wake up your bloody kiddish ideas and move on..

Have A Nice Day.

Could be wiring loose. The ignition is cut off thru gounding the ignition wire.

Guapo,

im not trying to be nasty or anything...i think TS is trying to ask if whether anyone experienced this and had the matter resolved before throwing any money to a mech or a few mechs tat solve the problem for a short term..if sumone had the same problem and solved it, he/she can tell the TS which shop to go..

Juz like you coming here to find bargains on products and services, why not u go out and scour the whole country for the best bargains at shop but u come here instead? Its the same thing bro...to me if u come into a thread and start typing things like, go to mech ask here for wat posts, than i rather u not post at all. Juz to avoid unnecessary arguements..

ziyong,

try checking the wiring to the ignition. mite be that some wiring are touching each other...does ur bike have an engine cut off switch? for the moment use that to kill the engine..

All i'm telling the TS is to not waste time here waiting for a reply esp if the bike is the only mean of viable transport.

U give advice and i gave advice.

Let the TS decide what he wants.

Yes, for the moment use that but you really gotta find a solution fast. I heard from quite a few guys who keep using the engine cut off switch that the switch or wiring will be worn out fast, then it spoil also. It wasn't designed to be used many times anyway.

My YBR got no cut off switch sia. Haha.

Haha. Its people like crazydj, biomodified and tonychan that make this forum a nice and helpful place. If only all riders were like that, confirm everyone happy.

Forum is a place of sharing knowledge mah... Who knows someone out there experience similar problems like TS and knows what is at fault?

Anw,TS is quiet already, found out the prob yet? Post here la so others who have the same prob can search and view this thread.

Oh, regarding u guys suggestion on killing the engine. If got no cut off switch, how to turn off? I was thinking of purposely stalling the engine. i.e. Kick to gear 2, release clutch while holding brakes. Is that harmful to the bike/engine?

Not that my bike has any probs, but just wondering in case it happens to my bike, or any other bikes for that matter. After all, this is a place where we all share our knowledge on bikes.

TS Yamaha X-1 doesn't come with "engine kill" switch as well...

"engine kill" switch "kill" the combustion, but electric supply (* supply to light, speedometer, ECM etc) still remain many said its best that you turn the ignition OFF rather than "kill" the engine. Still not very sure what's the actual story of having this function.

So has TS found an answer? Appreciate that you post the answer so can UP my knowledge as well LOL
