Some VFR specs/cons:

V4 EFI engine with VTEC (dual radiators)

4 x H7 headlights with integrated front and rear signal lights

Honda fully integrated OEM panniers (optional)

Underseat exhaust. 2 pairs with 2 outlets each.

Rear proarm system.

Agressive styling

That is why VFRs are so expensive. :cheeky:

Well i am interested in the maintenance cost of the machine compared to the Bird. Like say a full servicing every year apart from the regular quarterly oil change maybe gotta do setting or some other parts from the machine that needs replacement will the VFR be much more ex than the Bird? Tyres Oil and plugs aside.....

Personally after riding many different bikes for many years i have no complaint for the VFR. Taking a pillion with me and is still strong enough to travel two up. I recently gave my teenage daughter and she like the ride (of course cannot compare it to my prvious K1200LT).

The exhaust is nicely tucked between the space where the panniers and bike rear meets. So the chances of my girl getting her calfs burnt by hot exhaust is out of the question.

The bike is light enough to push around and has enough juice to run around. Looking around for a mid sized tourer, this is it. And you can save on some road tax too. :cheer:

Everything a bird has, the interceptor also has.

VFR maintenance is no different from other jap bikes.

You might want to look at my signature to see the list of replacement VFR owners in this forum has done.

When u ride the bike do u complaint that the power is not enough? And lastly which dealer do u guys recommend me to go purchase it and whats the address~? I'm looking forward to buy a brand new bike FYI. Thx for the informations that was provided to me by u guys from the previous posts.

Oh ya is it a good idea to consider the ABS model? or u guys find it redundant to have that function on a motorcycle?

Go to other forums like vfrdiscussion.com and read them out too. Many said that after a while they get use to the linked brakes and abs. They found it to be an additional plus to the bike. Also somewhere i read they said that the riding position is also well accepted, leave it as it is.

I personally have the abs vtec 03 model. I also have my hardcase panniers attached to the bike most of the time. It is a convienence to have it on cos i have a open face helmet, my raincoat and insurance papers in the panniers too. Also serve as a good storage for dinner purchases for my family on my way home from work in the evenings.

Overall i am very happy with the bike only think that i still need some power in the low rev around 20-30km range. i heard thank perhaps putting on the Power Commander III USB might be able to change the mapping of power band. Presently reading and sourcing around for feedback before making the $$$ plunge.

Hope my comments helps.

My last opinions:

There are a few not too bad looking 2nd hand around that you need to pay a few thousand lesser than a new one. Thought i remembered that civicblade is selling one for around $17.5K. Donno whether he is selling with panniers or not.

Would recommend these few accessories asap:

1) If you do not like the additional side space for the panniers, consider the bagster bra and bag, a good option.

2) Scottoiler (maintains the lub for chain and sprocket)

3) Rear tyre hugger (keep dirt and grim off the rear suspension and spring)

4) Headlight plastic protector ( prevents breakage of main headlight from stone when travelling at high speed)

5) A higher front screen (if you are tall and travels up country alot, keeps blast off face)

Other optionals (Later upgrade if you have alot of $$$):

1) Change brake hose to higher grade ones (like goodridge, hel. etc)

2) Upgrade front and rear suspension to higher grade ones (like ohlins, quantum from japan)

3) Add sliders to the front side fairing (to prevent from small drops scratches to the main fairing)

4) Anything else that comes to your mind and still have the $$$ then

If you need to view a bike that have the 1st five optional accessories and check out the panniers too, call me cos i am working along Orchard road and can let you view my bike hp 90122688 calvin.

Hi, I'm new to this VFR800 Thread.

Getting more and more interested about the VFR800, the more I read about it.

Anyway, just like to find out... for the 6th Generation VFR800, do they come in Black? Or is it just the Maroon and Retro colour, as shown in the websites?

Also, I understand that the bike does not come with the matching side panniers... How much would that cost?

Thanx... :cheeky:

06 model comes in black...

well i had changed a new batt and rectifier, adding up to 200 plus, but however same problem still occures. I was riding when the ABS light starts to blink and blink. I knew than when i off the engine, i will not be able to start again. And true it was. There is cranking sound but seem like not enough to start the bike and the display resets again.

wats the real problem?

ponders....

Do you have a service manual? According to the manual the ABS light will blink a number of times to indicate a code. That will tell you what is the problem. What you can do now is remove the ABS fuses and see what happens. Anyway, I got the online manual if you need it. You can download it from the net as well, I posted a link a few months back. Good luck

Honda's best known fault: Magnetic coil burnt.

Most in 02 VFRs and RR4.

Anyway just a $300 guess. :cheeky:

Also maybe your previous battery and rectifier are all right too.

And whats the function of the tensioner that u mentioned and how much does it cost? Is that the timing chain? Sorry but i'm int in getting a VFR so i'm collecting info now so as to benefit myself later on since u guys are discussing about all these parts replacement at the moment.

ya thats a very common fault for VFR especially '02.

battery or rectifier, better change 2-3 years.

and most important of all get a monitoring voltmeter cos i change brand new battery with rectifier, end up on the way riding home fault occur again ABS LED blinking and once stop engine cannot crank anymore.

coil burnt........

thinking of getting a voltmeter preferable a digital LCD model cos saw the analog voltmeter the dept is quite long... hard to install on viffer front.

any small digital LCD voltmeter to recommend?

Thanks in Advance!

Hi all, I am planning to switch to the 06 model VFR in Jan 07 due to work requirements. I am a track goer and needs to answer the call of adrenaline once in a while.:cheeky:

Needs a few answers to my questions (Can any kind soul help?):

1) Any big diff btw 06 and 07 models?

2) Is the side panniers easy to remove when I want it and hard to remove when someones wants it?

3) What is the average fuel consumption now? Not more than my G6K5's 16km/litre I hope...

4) Can a labtop fit into the side panniers?

The reason why I choose VFR is becos it is the next thing closer to a sportbike in terms of design and weight. Busa and Bird and Faz are out for me as Busa and Bird too bulky to my liking and Faz too naked...

Going to book my bike tommorrow. So fast response from you guys will be appreciated!

1) Any big diff btw 06 and 07 models?

not much diff in performance except visual asthetics. Only the VteC zone is sorted a little so it doesn't open & close the secondary valves at 1 point, which makes it jerky in the "swtiching zone" when your throttle is hovering ard that rpm.

2) Is the side panniers easy to remove when I want it and hard to remove when someones wants it?

It is very easy to remove, turn the key, pull the handle, pull upwards n out at the same time, and off it comes. (5secs max per side). Fitting it back is also simple, hook onto the rail and push inwards onto place, snap back down the handles and with a key turn, its locked in place. (5secs max per side also)

3) What is the average fuel consumption now? Not more than my G6K5's 16km/litre I hope...

80% freeway riding gives 17~18km/l. I dunno abt urban n jams, coz i usually take bus to towns at peak hrs

at 160~250kmh constant freeway blast, I clock from 11~14kmh/l eeeks!!:giddy:

4) Can a labtop fit into the side panniers?

No problem. If its small (my was a 12.1" monitor, i can side sideways in). Bigger than that i can fit flat down, with ur stuff stacked on top. My A4 file can fit in flat down with somemore space.

If your a liter bike fan, this bike might boost your "feel" for power. Its very more like a 600cc in terms of torque. But anything past 170kmh, prepare to eat stones. Max out that I ever achieved is abt 255kmh.

Good luck with your new machine!

PS : i happen to pop in and so these are my 2cents worth.

Ride hard & safe...

Wahey! Thanks! Is the box prone to theft? Easy to remove by others who like to look for surprises in other people's panniers?

Fuel consumption sure is power compared to other tourers...

But cosmetics wise I feel that it is just plain beautiful.

How much will a rear hugger cost?

It is better to keep quiet and remain a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubts...

Posted

All-rpund bike to have, not too heavy and can throw it around into bends. The optional panniers are good combination and goes well with the bike design. I pump full tank of 92 grade Mobil locally and gets around 250kms till last bar blinks. Sorry never went to check how many litres tho!

:cheer:

Oh ya, Good to have hugger on too.

Posted

That's even worse than a G6K5 liao...If a full tank goes til 250Kms...fuel efficiency is hmmmm...worth having second thoughts.o_O
