well.. its like this.. but sometimes price just ain't the final decision. EG--> 1 bike shop I went near paya lebar, his price was not the cheapest, but I get:

1. no frills

2. 1 price bao kah liaos (1 price means everything and you pay zero extra cents .. except for fuel you need to pump to get home  )

3. The reciept states every single thing.. and I mean EVERY single thing.

Another bike shop, after writing down every single item in price (this time smart liaos), then:

1. Did not get the things I was promised. I said i wil purchase only if he can be able to:-

a) come in a crate un-opened (like my previous bike purchase above mentioned  )

b) exactly on the date I want

But I only got item 1 achieved. Not to mentioned its credibility onwards. Never patronized it ever after.

Sometimes you have to weigh out the $$ you fork out and what you get other then only the machine.

Just my 2 cents worth...

in short,

be very wary when some bike shops offer you a price way below market rate. for vfr 06-07, price should be around 20k to 22k.

so far, haven't see any 07 yet. anyway, difference between 06 and 07 is just an additional paint scheme (RWB).

The 07 paint scheme is to commemorate 25 years of the Interceptor. A good read is the May issue of Motorcyclist... traces the history of this great bike.

aiyah, last time also wondering about the same questions, so did some research. if you search hard enough, you will find the answers.

oh, and those i listed are probably just normal aftermarket add-ons/replacement for the bike. if you are adventurous enough, i think there's the cbr 954 front fork replacement, the ducati 8-spoke 1-nut rear wheel conversion and the current vfrd mod-of-the-moment: gsxr1000 k7 mirrors replacement.

i think the beautiful/amazing/outstanding thing about this bike is the myraid of transformations you can do with it: whether you want it to be the SPORT-tourer or the sport-TOURER bike. hey, you can even simply go 1 way: sport or tourer, if that's your cup of tea (but it won't better the pure sport or pure tourer out there).

it's a great bike even without any modifications. as a matter of fact, i highly suggest everyone not to do any modifications/additions to it because the whole process is addictive! once you start, you can't stop

hi guys. As have heard tht VFR makes a gd tourer...on comfort n with decend powerbend in a usable range. It wld be great to hear it 1st hand frm the owner i guess. My queries wld be based on personal experience, wats the fastest possible crusing speed with protection frm wind blast and with comfort which u can last for 2 to 3 hrs of ride without break? :btw: my height is 182cm.

Yamaha LC 125 03/02 - 04/03

Yamaha RXZ 03/03 - 04/05

Suzuki Bandit VV 04/05 - 02/06

Yamaha Fazer 1000 03/06 - 10/07

Honda Blackbird 10/07 - 08/08

Yamaha Fazer 600 10/08 - 02/10

Honda Blackbird 02/10 - 03/12

1. the bike makes a good sports-tourer, ie. if you love the long, winding and twisty road, this bike is made for you. if you only want to travel straight, there are more comfortable tourers type out there: stx, fjr, goldwing to name a few. however, the vfr will be much more comfortable than the sportsbike for sure.

2. vfr power is pretty decent. it doesn't have the low torque of the stx or fjr and doesn't have the high end power of the sportsbike. so, it's stuck in the middle of that lot.

3. windblast is very much a personal thing. i feel pretty comfortable sitting upright in a super4 at 180km/h but some people might not. vfr is pretty decent in this aspect, although an aftermarket windscreen improves the amount of wind protection tremendously. depending on your preference, you can go for doublebubble, variotouring or full touring windscreen.

4. 2 to 3 hrs ride non-stop? i would say 140~160km/h cruising comfortably. any faster, you will be better off taking a plane.

I'm a new owner of a 2000 VFR. To add on to my personal experience of the bike...

1. Maybe I'm used to handling light, 'neutral' bikes (Phantom 150, Super4, RS250), but the VFR, to me, does not handle well. It....understeer? It doesn't want to steer! But then as I said, this is my first big bike, so maybe with practice.... Still can go twisties, but cannot push as hard as say a Super 4 and yet maintain the same margin of safety.

2. Power is decent, good torque for overtaking and power for chasing when left behind.

3. Stock windscreen directs the wind right to my helmet...and I'm only 1.68m. Not only that, there's some strain on the wrist too...it's not called a sport tourer simply beause of the fairing! But then again, maybe because my arms are too short....'

4. Fuel consumption (for my non-VTEC model at least) is very good, I can achieve 20km/l cruising at 120-140.

The next alternative to VFR would be the Fazer/ST if you want a more upright position one, or the Blackbird if you want a sportier one. My personal view.

To answer to question 1 - VFR is heavy. Heavy bikes are harder to steer. This applies to all litre class bikes. People always have a mentality that bigger bikes means better control which I feel directly opps the bigger I ride. Now you throw me a cub and I will feel like I am riding a bicycle. :cheeky:

Hi, ur nick familar i've seen in MINDEF forum.... i takakotokiwa in that forum

guess bcos u r not used to heavy bikes yet.

must try to use the countersteer technique if u find hard2steer or understeer, u will get used to it bro....

now give u pgm4 u sit on top u can swing like bicycle... but dun think u will like to corner with the light feeling cos u r used2 heavy bike liao

PS:Friday13 its not u never pay enough road tax or they force u off the lanes.... cos they tot bikers r supposed2 follow those dotted lane markings...

I've been riding the same FI model as yours for some years now. Here's my experience on this bikes handling and refusal to steer has never been an issue.

1. Tyre condition: Like any bike, worn tyres makes steering very heavy and riding it unpleasurable. Change it more regularly.

2. Tyre pressure: Keep at the recommended 36/42 front/rear pressure for street use at it would require less effort to steer.

3. alter/quicken the bike steering/ geometry by (a)dropping the triple clamp (see earlier postings or (b) raise rear preload to raise the height or © add 6mm of shims to the top of the rear shock.

4. Finally - check your steering head bearings for wear and tear if steering is really as bad as you make it out to be.

As another viffer offered, counter-steering to initial a lean or change in direction is very effective on this (or any bikes).

The fastest cruising speed is very personal.

On the VFR, you will run out of petrol well before the 2-3hr mark. At a fairly constant 160-200kmph "cruising" speed (at NSH at 3am in the morning), I run dry at about 250-260km. That's about 1.5hrs. Just the right interval for a stretch/break.

Wind blast on the stock screen is well balance as it hits me on the shoulder and takes the weight of my wrist.

I am 1.82m tall and 52 years old.
