haha... good one!

but as for dyno run... how does that help reduce the carbon build-up? I'm looking for a more repeatable kind of treatment to get rid of it, especially if I don't go for long fast runs often enough.

I dunno how but ever heard ppl send for dyno to clear carbon before.. since during the progress, throttle will be open fully most of the time, guess it'll help more or less ba.. but quite a costly way to do it too...

I don't think holding the throttle @ 6k rpm will help much since it's only 'half throttle'... hence not enough pressure & heat to do the job...

I'm currently an owner of a used 1999 VFR800 which I bought in May 2003. I'm the 4th owner and so far, this has to be the longest time duration that I hold on to a bike. 4 years and 2 mths. No problems, except for the occasional wear and tear of parts.

Where do you guys get parts for the pre-VTEC VFR800? Actually intended to get one after I get my Class 2 license, but Ah Chong from Planet Motors say that the parts are near impossible to find. Is there a workshop that specializes in VFRs?

No such thing as impossible but the dealers here may not have the parts ready on hand i.e. may need to order. For example when I burn my coil I couldn't get the part (though there are other similiar Honda coils I could use...). So in the end I ordered an aftermarket one from overseas, which is cheaper and faster.

Plenty of 2nd hand stuff on eBay. And of course you can't compare the part availability to super 4s....

Most concerned about engine parts and parts that affect the operation of the bike (sorry, I'm not really mechanically inclined :cheeky:). And the lights too.

Don't want the bike to be out of action for extended periods due to long waits for parts.

If you meant engine parts such as con-rods, crankshaft, valves etc, chances of it being stocked in-house (SG) is very low. It will take minimum of 2 weeks upon order from Boon Siew or respective motorshops.

As most of the components are not common parts with other models, operational components of the VFR will not easily be available in days. Certain lower priority components (handlebar, mirrors, footpeg assembly) that most likely to be affect in conventional a low side/side fall might be stocked up in 1~2 pieces. That is where "fastest fingers win" :cheeky:

Thank You.

Not really. Engine related components are pretty bullet proof for a looong time.Unless you need wear & tear replacement components, which can pre-order beforre sending in for maintanence. As for cosmetic damage, if you need to replace alot of components, most probably the rider (touch-wood) will not be in a stage to ride for a while also.

Thank You.

I just serviced my viffer and got tensioner replaced and FI cleaned. My Mech spotted that the connector carrying the alternator current was close to a complete meltdown with serious concequences. He said the 02/03 models have this problem. You guys may want to check your connector. It is located next to the rectifier bundled up with some other wires.

YEs, the connector itself seems to be the issue with some poor batt charging. I encountered flickering lights even with new batt installed at 43,000km mileage. Take out the connector (requires right fairing removal) give it a god clean with contact cleaner or GT85, resolves the issue.
