Guys, has anyone ever tried installing helibars on your VFR before..? I'm riding up to north thailand and contemplating to raise my handlebar to a more comfy position.. It was claimed on the official website that these bars will give 1 1/4” taller and 1 1/2” rearward position.. I'm getting some aches on my neck and shoulder when travelling up north.. What do you guys think? Worth the change??

Throttlestop had one installed in his previous VFR and loved it. I was contemplating it also on my previous VFR also but didnot go ahead with it cos of $ reason. In any case, I got used to it now.

But having said that wo liao mouthful, I am sure it will improve your comfort for a long ride, especially if you are along reach to the bars. I have arms like a chimp, so its lesser of a prob.

Me also going to Nth Thai later this year.

1. What is the VFR OTR price?

2. What is the fuel consumtion? 1L can go how many KM?

3. I heard that VFR breaking system need about mini.10pcs of brake host?

4. How many L of engine oil will be use?

5. Is it hard to maintain this bike?

Bro, your answers -

1. VFR OTR (Including insurance for 31 & above) - $20,600 (De Xing)

2. Approximately 16-17 km/l. Cruising on NSH with VTEC, even lower consumption

3. Latest batch of 6th Gen VFR is with ABS & CBS linked brakes. Very complicated so best not to meddle with it. It works fine without having to change to steel-braided.

4. Engine oil is 3.1 litres (When changing together with the oil filter)

5. Maintenance of bike?? Depends on rider. Aside from wear & tear, there is hardly anything to worry as long as you follow the maintenance schedule & inspect your bike regularly.

Do take note that this is a HOT bike. But the response is very peachy when she's fully warmed up....

Everyone have their own views. But u have to understand dat this is a V4 sports tourer not an in-line 4 sports bike.

But still i don't agree if u say this bike no power.

Dont think there is much different in price for parts in-line 4 or v4 in japanese bikes. But the sound and feeling of riding the v4 make up for it. No power? its not the bike its more to do with the rider. Freddie Spencer riding school instructors rides vfr. (My past bikes , In-line 4: R6,R1,Blackbird, K1,K3,K51000s,Hayabusa. Single cylinder: XR6 n Husky SM610. V-twin TLR1000 n Ducati 996sps.)

Have your friends ridden one before they made this assumption?? I made the switch from a Blackbird, mind you. And I find that the VFR is definitely not lacking in power. In What Bike? magazine 2005, the VFR scored in the following categories.

1) Speed

2) Great for twisty roads

3) Touring ability

4) Long distance mile muncher

5) Great quality ride

Most magazines will tell you that the VFR is a great all-rounder, so much so that Triumph upgraded their Sprint ST specifically to top it.

When the 6th gen was introduced in 2002, it was known as the Rich Man's Honda cos it was expensive for a middleweight bike, mainly due to the VTEC. But for a bike that has survived 6 permutations over more than 2 decades, you can't go terribly wrong.

Ok Ok guys, go easy on the poor chap.

Now see what you did Denver. These chaps here are fiercely loyal to their VFR so it is something you should consider - come join us.

The VFR, in its various versions had been voted Bike of year by most of the international bike magazines for many many years.

On the matter of "lack of power", you have to understand the power characteristics of the V4 vs the inline 4. The power pulse of the v4 makes it unnecessary to cane the bike and in the hands of a smooth competent rider it is incredibly satisfying.

And as the others had noted, the VFR is a sport tourer and should not be compared to a all out sport bike like say an R1 or the CBR or Gixxer, tho in the right hands, it can give the sport bikers a run for their money.

So you need to decide what you really want.

for an all rounder, its hard to beat the VFR. I am into my second VFR now and is still loving it; tho I ride my R1 when I need to get my fix of manic. They're completely diff animals.

On maintenance, superbikes are never cheap.

Haiyah none,

better still ask him to get a 1340cc Haya if he craves for more power.

Well dino,

It's true that VFR will be hard pressed to beat the in-line 4 litre class bikes. Through vfrT is right that VFR can hold it's own when in the right hands. If it's power only you crave, then look elsewhere.

However, it you want a compromise of all the things I mentioned (Fast touring, great quality ride, great cornering bike & comfort), you'll won't be looking elsewhere except at the VFR (unless you're rich & can afford a Triumph Sprint ST 1050).

Agree with vfrt

I use to own inline 4(mostly), 1 or 2 v-twin and only 1 v4(magna750)

the return feeling of the VFR reminds me of the magna but with more power

and I had no regrets in buying it.

If you (DenverDino) feel the only reason for not buying is because the parts are expensive, then I would suggest you think carefully before making any more decision.

Buy what you like and want.

I really dont know much on Engine power side. All along i heard alot on those Superbike but for Sport Touring im totally O% knowledge. That why u maybe will feel that im asking stupid question.

And we talk abt the bike parts... i think most of the new riders wish to know more. Cause this is a faring bike n is a V-engine (correct me if im wrong) i dont know much on the engine n never handle it before. For those minor servicing like change oil filter, engine oil, brake pads n tyre i can understand and can afford it. I feel comfortable when sitting on this bike but how i know when the engine start and moving off??? Never have that feeling before LEH....

Mr Blackbandit he really help me lots n let me understand on this bike when the first reply he send me. At least know something.

I dont really go for high power if i want to then like what u say must well i straight away choose a superbike. I like this bike because the design, sitting posture and the most important thing this bike fuel consumption is not that high like superbike cause i need to use for work n have some touring fun.

May I know what bikes are your friends riding? Because based on that, what they say isn't terribly wrong when compared with your cbr1k, r1, gsxr etc.

personally, after riding mine for a few months, I kinda feel that the power is adequate without causing you to do stupid mistakes. Being a V4, it has a very flat response i.e. the acceleration at 5000 rpm and 10000 rpm 'feels' the same. For sportsbike they usually have a spike at the high rpm range, hence giving the sensation of more power?

In a nutshell, the VFR feels to me like a 600cc sportsbike with more grunt and yet consumes less fuel than a 600. And it comes with boxes too! So if you need storage and something to attract some admiring glances, the VFR is a good choice.

Hi DD

Forgive me if I jump to conclusion, while Qs & As are great for learning and discourse, I suspect that you may not be ready for a superbike class. I'm not being condescending but ppl could get hurt with the kind of output these bikes can put out esp the all out sportbikes whose power characteristics are very peaky compared to the VFR which starts low and grows linearly. What that intrepret into is that you can be caught off caught when you twist the throttle hard on a sport bike - and believe you me after 30yrs of riding these new sport bikes bikes still scare be shitless.

Incidentally, what are you riding at the moment?

i would say this vfr babe is great, for touring seating posture shiok, speed also shiok(don't tell me top 257km/h nt enough for touring...lol), wind protection more shiok(windshield large enough). cornering also shiok( if u dare to bend with this heavy babe).

On a side note, some magazine say this is the bike that will dethrone the VFR in the sports touring class. Any comments?

According to the mags, the VFR has already been dethroned by the costlier Triumph Sprint ST. However, the Sprint has an almost 300cc advantage over the VFR. That said, the VFR still holds its own due to the build quality & usability...

For the Beemer, still too early to tell cos it's still only about a year old. Plus, it's operating on a parallel twin engine... Only time will tell....
