Hi guys,

Recently got my riding's license this year, lucky to be driving a free phantom from my dad. However I would like to explore different types of bike to see what kinds I like best, not planning to stick with phantom for long...

So, among,

Sports/Super bikes

Scramblers

Cruisers

Scooters

Commuter

Or any other types of bike I do not know...

Which types of bike you would prefer and why?

*Feel of the bike, the looks, speed, FC, maintenance, etc*

Firstly, would you like to upgrade to 2a after 1 year? If yes, keep riding the phantom and resist the temptation. Save up money and buy a bigger cc.

If no, then i would advice you to stick with it first and save money. Use it till finish your probation period and gain experience on the roads. Cause if buy another bike, your insurance gonna cost a bomb. Just my 0.02cents:smile:

Well, to answer you question.

1 rode phantom for 1 year and then I changed to a moped.

And i'm in love with it.

Peace

I'm definitely upgrading to 2A! A heavier bike is safer as I have heard.

A lot of people are recommending me to buy Super 4 too.

Personally I'm not the cruising kind, so I feel phantom is kinda of underpowered and slow to me.

what's a moped? A scooter?

sorry, I have almost zero knowledge about bikes brands etc......

Ya just check coolant levels each service and you're fine :3

I like everything below 200cc.

You pay through the nose every time you need an oil change for a bigger bike, don't even talk about major stuff.

Want big bike? Well, someone offered me a huge BMW in Malaysia (keyword: not in Singapore :D)

I would say its the wider tire which helps in balancing... actually u can achieve it with a normal

Safer? Well, I would say it has equivalent exposure of danger as those regular bikes irregardless of displacement.

Best part of it is the instant response from the throttle, which can help you avoid some nasty situation. Improved torque and bhp comes handy too.

Why restrict yourself to CB400SF? whereas you have GSR400 as well?

Moped = Kupkia, example are Honda wave, Yamaha X-1R etc.

My preference would be these 3 classes

Streetfighter = comfortable, ample power, commuting & fun bike

Off road scrambler = adventure, dirt, crazy pick up

Super Sports = hell of a devil

bike is a machine without soul, rider would inject new life and character to this machine

Safer? Maybe.... the extra power u get from upgrading to a bigger CC will be useful to escape from sticky situations, but that same power will make u want to twist the throttle more to go faster. Like the saying goes, with more power comes more responsibility

Cant agree more about the increase in expenses. I just recently upgraded from a Daelim Roadwin 125cc to a Suzuki GSR 400cc.

Daelim Roadwin - Air cooled, no need coolant. 1 Bottle EO, 1 Spark plug.

Suzuki GSR - Liquid cooled, need coolant. 3 bottles EO, 4 Spark plug.

Basically expect your expenses for basic maintence to increase. Not to mention fuel consumption as well.

Now to answer your questiion:

Personally my choice of ride will be:

Naked/streetfighter (eg. Super4, GSR, Fazer)

or

Adventure/tourer (eg. Varadero, Vstrom, Africa twin)

-Easy comfortable posture, generally good low to mid range torque for SG road riding

I'm not really a fan of Moped/Cubs (eg. X1R, Spark) or Scoots(e.g Vespa, X8,X9).

-No fuel tank in front. I dunno where to grip my legs at when i brake and scared i fall forward from the seat:cheeky:

Sport bike (eg. R1, GSX, CBR)

- i dun like the lean forward posture. Makes my back ache.

Cruiser (E.g Phantom, Shadow)

-Dunno why i dun like. 'Dun like' sound very offensive, maybe proper word will be i am uninterested. hehe. Although a Honda Valkyrie with its 1500CC inline-6 engine is very interesting!:thumb:

Scrambler (E.g DRZ, WR400)

- No windscreen. Was told by a DRZ riding fren of mine that the windblast riding at 120kmh hurts quite a bit. Not sure how true though. DRZ riders pls dun flame me...

That being said however, my DREAM ride will be a BMW 1200 GS or heck, maybe even a Honda Goldwing, just because i dream of riding of to China. (keyword: DREAM) The Goldwing has lot of creature comforts to make riding feel a breeze. Plush cushion seats, Rider to pillion intercom, and even radio. Yes u heard me right, RADIO on a freakin bike.

Realistically, i feel that 400cc's are just nice for SG roads. Powerful enough to get out of nasty situations but not too powerful that u feel like u wanna speed every day. Just my opinions though. To each his own. :D

In the end, follow ur heart bro!

one thing about scoot is storage, under-seat, front compartment and rear box. your shoes are shield from rain.

yeah, 400cc is gd for city riding with a little feel of big bike. Ur GSR best liao, chassis of 600cc but it can be heavy for some riders.

Best of 400cc, ease in road tax and insurance... fuel consumption can be quite good, for example CB400SF can clock 20++km/litre. But maintenance like a big bike.

bike is a machine without soul, rider would inject new life and character to this machine
