Proposed template for Caturday Night Special:

Flight Plan: "High Street Runway"

Date: Sat 2 Oct '10

Launch time: 2200hrs

Venue: Instead of visiting animal farm areas we'll make use of our newly tested and proven air combat tactics AHEM convoy skills to use in an urban setting.

Cruise through familiar sights in the city centre from the security and freedom of a motorcycle convoy while making a mental note to demonstrate good 'ol American highway code to our fellow motorists.

Commercial passenger vehicles; taxis and buses deserve right of way, and they'll in turn help you to change lanes and filter traffic once you earned their favour

Attendance:

Flight 1: Usual TPY Road Recon Force

Names:

1. Cat / CBX200R "Sheryl Nome Custom"

2. Thomas Wong / Stealth NSR

3.

Flight 2: SBF Sports Riders (ie "fighter escort)

Names:

1. nabil15 / CB400R "Purple Dragon"

2.

3.

Group 3 - Guest Stars (Team Hougang! Experienced riders)

1. Tonychan / Honda Steed

2. ahcai / NSR Phantom 150

3. Shunoski / Honda CB400 "Orlulu"

Just add slots if y'all want to come along. All types of bikes welcome, newbie-friendly mode available if desired.

PS: Pls turn up in your safety gear if you have. Slippers not recommended (Or nabil and I will post your unglam pics by accident on facebook -_-)

Anyone can ride a bike. Being a biker, is a state of mind.

Recon team comprised of

1. cat

2. @exige

3. @nabil15

did a recon run down the proposed course. It will start off nice and relaxing but you will have to ride smoothly and calmly to get the most out of it. I don't think anyone has run a long convoy deliberately in urban areas but it is possible to do it safely and without getting in anyone's way. No stunts or showing off VTEC mode please, we need to work together to get the convoy through to the end point. Just watch your 'wingman's' back and we'll be fine. The course is not complex, it's really north to south in a straight line.

There is a certain tight spot at a big roundabout but suddenly the environment blooms into a totally epic sight. We'll retire at Harbourfront for debrief after about 1 hr 30 mins of riding. Not a short trip and not a particularly easy route to lead but it is really one giant straight road across Singapore. Even if it was a dry run and we took some shortcuts, it was quite enjoyable despite the "slow" pace.

If the convoy is separated I will make a brief stop if the location is safe, or if not nabil knows the route and can play sweeper to join the team back together. In the event of irreversible separation recover independently at Harbourfront big carpark or retire home if pace of convoy is not suitable for you; there is no attendance taken.

I'll leave @exige and @nabil15 to highlight any other key points/feedback if they have them.

Definitely recommended to put on high visibility jacket if you have them - all the vehicles more or less gave way to me this evening because of a reflective vest. No guarantee on right of way but it helps. A lot.

My girlfriend and I will be joining in this Saturday. We'll both be riding separately and we'll be testing our new Interphone F4. :)

Believe nothing you hear; and only half of what you see.

Do or do not; there is no 'try'.

Big turnout - we will need greater agility in the city so there will be two convoys. Same start and end point - as for getting there, we'll use flight leaders' discretion.

We have seen bikes provide mutual support to each other on the road, we haven't seen two convoys providing cover for each other.... so let's make it happen :D

More details on the squadron roster tomorrow.

I might also be late. Celebration at harbour front. Might just meet you guys there also. Confirm this again.

Might as well just stay at HBF or meet up on Sunday; rushing across Singapore is not a fun venture, especially if you're going to end up at the same place.

The convoys from Pasir Ris will not wait for any latecomers.

The huge public carpark opposite Downtown East E Hub

http://www.streetdirectory.com/asia_travel/travel/travel_id_22778/travel_site_82935/

See that absolutely ginormous carpark opposite the road? There is a giant stretch of bike lots on the "bottom left" corner on it. Look for kitten with hi visibility orange vest :p Since cats are small, may need to look under parked cars, under bike covers, etc.

Caturday Night Fever

"High Street Runway" (i.e. Big Insanely Huge Road Course)

Date: Sat 2 Oct '10

Meeting time: 2200hrs

Meeting place: Public Carpark, E-Hub, Downtown East. We will gather where the giant bike lot area is.

Move off at 2230hrs SHARP
(we
cannot
wait to move off as one group due to personal time constraints)

Route:

From Pasir Ris we will locate and ride down an unused 'industrial' highway through Tampines Road and then up and over the Upper Serangoon Road "Superbridge".

Avoiding the crowded intersection to Bendemeer, we will take a single carriageway shortcut to Aljunied and then on to Nicoll Highway.

From there we will sneak out to Republic Avenue and cruise past the magnificent Helix Bridge and the starship-like Integrated Resort before doing a short motorised version of parkour on small roads into Chinatown.

Just when you think we are all out of ideas and are just going to get stuck at traffic lights, I will lead the convoy off-course into more small, unused roads to reach our destination of Harbourfront.

We can have a pitstop there, review our team performance and I'll let you decide where we can go next.

Yes, there is a part II, and no it isn't a walk in the park either. The convoy route is the most complex I've planned / led but really, it's just one super-long straight road from Pasir Ris to the city.

I have done a trial run of the course with @
nabil15
and @
exige
, and should be able to predict when and where congestion will take place.

Ride Format: Two Convoys

Tactics: Loose Formation, Separation between convoys 500m / 10 seconds

Do not overtake the leading bikes. Without the navigators everyone will be lost!

Formation will NOT be enforced in the TPY Convoy - adapt as necessary to road conditions and protect the lead navigator. Try not to bunch up too closely when stopped, or lead bike can't maneuver.

Convoy 2 (led by @
nabil15
is allowed to break off from main route to best suit individual pace)

Convoy 1: Toa Payoh Motorised Recon Division

1. Cat / CBX200R "Sheryl Nome Custom"

2. @
Thomaswongkk
/ Stealth NSR

3. @
KJ.
/ Hyosung Comet V-Twin

4. @
CJP
. / Phantom TA 200

Convoy 1 Fighter Escorts:

5. @
lacrimosae
/ Aprilia RS125

6. Lacrimosae II / Aprilia RS125

Convoy 2: SBF Guest Stars

1. nabil15 / CB400R "Purple Dragon"

2. ahcai / NSR Phantom 150

3. Shunoski / Honda CB400 "Orlulu"

TBC - Tonychan / Honda Steed (but not free, cannot make it to convoy start point)

Please update this final template independently according to personal attendance.

PS: Pls turn up in your safety gear if you have. Please do not turn up in slippers as we will be doing urban convoy training. Not going NTUC buy sardines
:p

Likewise if sleepy, etc, don't come for convoy. Not worth your personal risk - there will be other convoys in future!

Fig 1:

The meeting location is that huge public carpark below Jln Loyang Besar.

Downtown East, 1 Pasir Ris Close 519599

This is how I look like in case you forgot:
