Mine is like 4+? years old still can do video production on adobe premiere, run my favourite 2000-2006 games. Since new games are crap (all fancy graphics no real content ripping off each others' concepts) I am perfectly happy.

Indeed, an Eee PC actually is much faster than my desktop in terms of loading speed (made mine boot in 20 seconds).

My desktop is 7 years old. AMD Athlon XP 2000+ stock 1.67Ghz OCed to 2.025Ghz. GFX is a 6200. 1.5Gb ram. I don't wanna get technical but with this system, i can still do alot of stuff, except play newer games like MW2 etc. Technology is really old. Socket A, AGP 8X, DDR1, IDE. Even my HSF gone sia, i got to use a silverstone 80mm fan and cable tie it down to the heatsink.

I had an XP2000+ like yours before this one and it produced so much heat it was unreliable outside air conditioned rooms. The stock fan melted its insulation off requiring the most interesting DIY repairs to keep it running. Eventually got rid of it when playing Granado Espada with the ladies and we all upgraded for the game together. How sweet.

All to do with cable management and case air flow bro. Mine is 50C on load. 40C plus on idle.

Oh yeah, the reason why my stock HSF was missing was because i took it out and modded my router to have a fan and some LED lights. Kenna scolded by my mum for that and she kept saying why i didnt turn off the computer. After a few days i removed everything back to stock. Sigh.

You not administrator ah? Because there should be a 'compatibility' tab.

1. why duo core so cheap?

Acer Aspire Notebook 14" - AMD dual core E350, 1.6Ghz, 4GB ram, ATI Radeon HD6470, Windows 7, $749.

This one can make it or not? I only using it for MS Office applications, occasional web surfing.

2. Toshiba brand make in China?

Toshiba Satellite 14" - Intel Core i5-480 2.66Ghz, 4GB ram, ATI Radeon HD5650, Windows 7, $1,399.

3. Samsung

Samsung notebook 14" - Intel Core i5-460M, 2.53Ghz, 4GB ram, ATI Radeon HD5470, Windows 7, $999.

4. Asus

Asus notebook 14" - Intel Core i7-740QM, 1.73Ghz, 6GM ram, ATI Radeon HD6470, Windows 7, $1,398.

I out of touch with processors status, so need advice what to avoid, too many on the market, and CONfusing salesman can never rely upon for solid information. But i think reliability of the chip is important, cause i cannot afford crashing or overheating or whatever problems chips are prone to nowadays.

How cheap are those Atom 1.6ghz netbooks now? 7 to 10 inch screen, the works.

Anywhere selling for $200? With the availability of powerful tablets of various types, the netbook could be regarded as yesteryear's fashion. I want one for DIY projects :3

I am using the notebook as a desktop. Found the following site on icore numbering versus dual core, it seems icore is replacing dual core, i must be out of date up till now.

i open multiple tabs in safari, working on MS office excel spreadsheets, running independent accounting software applications concurrently on my laptop. Plus always on the fan to cool it. Is i5 enough computing power for the way i work?

i5 is more than enough firepower. If you want to save a few bucks look at i3s too. See which one better suits your budget. With maxxed out RAM you should have no problem multitasking to infinity and beyond.

I upgraded from Core2Duo XP to Win7 x64 i3 3.06ghz and the difference is tremendous.

But why i always find internet speed not fast enough? Is the bandwith and not the working memory right? Cant wait for Sg's superfast internet to be commission, to see how fast it is.

laptops are decently priced at the moment

bang for buck in terms of performance, better than the netbook

Most people go through life following the crowd.

Others think for themselves.

They go their own way.

Internet speed not fast enough?

Might want to scan for malware/adware slowing things down, (client side)

ISP side is another story and different types of networks have differing performance. ADSL for instance is relatively slow but very stable, cable is fast provided there is little traffic on the same "pipe", 3G modems depend on signal strength, etc.

How to increase boot up speed? Where to goto remove some negligible programs system runs when windows boot up?
