Hi, I would imagine that the suede-type material that is on the Vespa LX150 will be what you need. It is not an uncommon complaint that the BMW's posture pushes the rider towards the tank aka "nuts crushers". Eugene has that material when my friend re-wrapped his seat. Save your old cover, next owner may well want it.

Hi bro cool-cat,

this eugene guy u referring is eugene from that saddle shop? how is his quality of work?

hey guys,

do check your tyre valve once in a while. I had a great experience last week. My rear tyre valve was swollen, a sign indicating that it might burst very soon. Was adviced by PML but decided to hold on for a while, until later (literally later) when i rode my bike out to the highway and true enough it burst. Bike was stucked at Jalan Kayu and have to spend $40 for tow! Good lesson learnt. Do periodic checks..

hi guys,

a long shot, but let me give it a try.

wanna try BMW bike for a year or so before getting a proper tourer, but don't wanna spend too much first. if anybody has lobang or letting go, do let me know.

650 / 800 cc

1990 something bmw (COE expiring VERY SOON - 2013)

still in acceptable condition of course

doesn't take much to service (a few hundred per visit to PML :)

i saw r1110r 1996 for less than 10k

so around 4-5k for 1993?

and please don't comment negatively :)

Yes, Eugene Saddlery. Very good. But wait long long I think. He is a busy chap, and closed Sundays. Ah Boon is very experienced, but not accommodating to creative ideas like patterns etc.

... what you looking at? Never seen a cow that wants to go places ????! ...

I reckon that beemer's base price (i.e. bare bottom regardless of age) is about $5K. Even then, at that price usually it is a tired bike that requires some work that will add at least $1K. Lower than $5K will have to be a super deal if the bike is great, but so far I have yet to seen any of that. I would imagine that if a bike is selling for say $3K, I will be very wary and likely cos' the owner have difficulty in selling it higher.

Good luck in your search.

Anyway I need some opinions.

1. Is it really necessary to get ohlins for my ride? Or can PML service the stocks? It's getting sluggish with below average performance.

2. Anyone installed after-market full system with Power commander? Does it improve overall performance and fuel efficiency?

Thanks

Hi Benz,

I can only contribute to your ques 1 because I change my to ohlins before. As the saying goes if ain't broken why fix it. Unless your shock is broken then you change it. Anyway, it depend on your riding style too. If you are those really hardcore who bring your bike to offroad then your stock shock may wear faster. Ohlins is good because it's serviceable, while the stock is not. But BMW will not service your Ohlins and you have to bring it to the agent to do it for you. That's my 2cents worth.

thanks Biker,

yes its not broken yet, haha... guess no need to get the ohlins since that is my second bike. No off road for me, am riding a R1150R, so tarmac all the time. appreciate your advice, bro, think you've just saved me $1500!

The difference between good and tired shocks is immediate to me. Ohlins makes sense if the cost of replacing non-adjustable stock shocks are similar. Aftermarket shocks have to be set up properly otherwise the value-added not fully utilised.

I have a spare set of Ohlins for a R1150R for sale. Anyone keen just PM me.

Benz, a cheaper alternative to Power Commander is the Techlusion unit for the R1150XXs. I have it on my R1150R and it is good.

Cheers

Hi TWdude26, I am also hunting for a new battery so pls keep us posted about yr Odyssey. My current Yuasa is fine except the ABS doesn't work. My bike shop determined that my ABS is functioning and that it is the battery that is causing ABS malfunction. As many owners know, BMW ABS is very sensitive to battery current. I was thinking of biting the bullet and getting the OEM one. Don't wish to risk another "chiong" battery giving me problems.

However, Odyssey seems popular overseas so pls let me know if it works well on yr bike.

My question is how did you charge up the battery? Odyssey says the PC680 requires a 6-7amp charger.

Did you bring to a shop or you have a suitable charger?

BTW, my current solution to the cat problem. I got sick of them scent marking on the bike or cover.

Yo bro, just to update on the odyssey batt...

received the batt all charged up ready to go. installed in my C and engine starts on 1st crank. no ABS fault. :)

Hi Kan,

the new 1200GS is only 8kg heavier then the old one but it's more torque and more powerful.

I still prefer 2012 Gs & GSA look.

2013 Gs & GSA with coolant operated will have more problem n heavier!!!
