Getting rid of old helmets

How do you guys get rid of an old helmet which is no longer in a condition good enough to be passed on to other people? Do you guys recycle? Seems like a waste to just throw an old helmet into the bin. Need tips cuz i have one such helmet now

Motoworld used to have a trade in promotion. There were people who picked up discarded helmets from the side of the expressway, to enjoy the $50 discount No idea if the trade-in promotion is still on.

 

Don't feel bad to throw away old helmets, the protective foam layers do have a 'shelf life'. An old helmet with hard foam will absorb less impact than a new one with pliable foam and a more advanced shape. Hand-me-downs are thus, not recommended for new riders and pillions. Infact, they arguably need more protection as they're exposed to more risk of injury during a spill.

 

The "classic value" of the helmet is also debatable. Sure, if you have a motosiao helmet passed down from the days of the SG Grand Prix, but a common "PSB Approved" half face? Nah, just get something better to match your bigger and more powerful bikes.

 

Maybe a good use for unwanted helmets is to convert them into art. Spraypainting practise anyone? Or if you have a BB gun or other "non lethal" improvised projectile weapon...

Use it to catch helmet thieves. Put razor blade in a star shape inside so that when the thief steals it and put it on it will cut a star shape on his head. Heh! Heh! Heh!

 

Or pour super glue/ tar used to catch mice into the helmet so that the helmet sticks to the head permanately. Then report to police helmet lost!
