Hi guys ive been need to ride long distance with my vtec3 in sg lately,,about 100km per day lately from east to west n west to east,,usually 50km will be after midnite and the expressway are free,,my ride will be 80% expressways,,,especially after midnite i will cruise at speed 110-120,,at dat speed my rpm will be at 7 to 8k and i find the bike abit stress n noisy to cruise at that speed,,and the wind blast on s4 is hurting my neck,,

so i tot of changing bike so tat i can have more comfortable ride

can be a sportbike or road or tourer

in mind i have 2 bikes, cbr 600 and tdm 900

question is:

CBR600:

will the 600cc cruise well at 110-120?and what will be the rpm at that speed?

will the sport bike bend forward posture do better against wind blast compare to S4?

TDM 900:

I know it got a good riding posture for long riding distance,,but i wasnt sure what v-twin engine best for?for more smooth ride?

and basically whats differences can i expect from a vtwin engine compare to inline four?

Thanks in advance

for the 600 to 'cruise well' at your stipulated speed, i recommend using third to fourth gear.

in 6th gear, at 120kmh u'd be at approximately 7k rpm. with a redline at 15k, ur barely touching the middle of the rev range. the engine sounds gentle and smooth, but any attempt at quick acceleration like quick overtake maneuver, the engine is lacking. it takes like a full second for the engine to 'wake up' when you increase throttle. this is typical of all 600s.

if u instead cruise at say 3rd gear, u'd be at about 9k rpm, right before the rev range when the engine comes alive. the engine is likely to sound rougher but heck its a good aggressive sound. most importantly, need a quick overtake? increase throttle and acceleration is instantaneous. this is exactly how to ride 600s: keeping the revs up near the top one-third.

there is likely to be less wind-blast not from the posture but from the fairing. but if ur very tall there is a possibility ur head actually pokes above the fairing's protection bubble, but thats only if ur unnaturally tall for an asian.

and whether a sportsbike posture is comfortable or not depends completely on the person. i found my cbr600 a lot more comfy than my old phantom years ago before class 2, and i can find other bikers who feel the same but plenty of people out there would find this notion ridiculous. unfortunately only way to know is to actually do it.

ultimately though, while the 600 will easily meet your criteria, there are plenty of other options better suited for wat ur asking for. u specifically want "comfortable cruising at 110-120kmh". the cbr600 can do this easily, subjective riding posture aside, but that wasn wat it was designed for. its got an engine for chasing revs and a body for conquering bends. the biggest buzz u'll get from the bike is going round a bend in committed fashion. it can do what you asking for here, but if thats all you ever do with it, i guarantee you will have the feeling of "i spent $20k on this bike and only use $10k of wat its able to do".

It's true: it's more fun to ride a slow bike fast than to ride a fast bike slow. Admittedly, though... It is MOST fun to ride a fast bike fast!

if u rode ur super4 at 80-90km/h (which is oso the legal speed limit) then the engine wld not be revving so much n the windblast much tolerable

wa u 182cm sure no problem for your cbr600,i only 155cm.But do take note since u need travel so far, sportbike is not a good option for u.and avg cbr 600 is 16~18 per liter.Full tank is same as S4,15L and 3L reserved. So i think you every 2~3 days need pump tank -.-

for ur daily needs for SG cruise only, keep the S4.. you can get big windshields to protect urself.

super4 can take 180kmh for long hour.... no worries.. bigger bike and you will suffer for fuel consumption, bigger insurance, more expensive maintenance..

I done it before in the wee hours at nite... cruising at 100km/hr at middle lane of the xpressway (*just don't hog the right lane). Very comfortable feel... actually CB400SF can fulfill your commuting needs... u should consider keeping it.

bike is a machine without soul, rider would inject new life and character to this machine

Actually other den insurance and roadtax, I dun find S4 cheap in anyway. The maintenance is like cls 2 bikes, petrol consumption also not very great. i tink my old Fazer 600 can do better.

Rat bike - A motorcycle not necessarily kept in pristine condition, often painted matt black. Minimal maintenance and mismatched parts often used.

btw TDM900 is parallel twin not vtwin

ops. pardon my ignorance. :dozed:

What about the FZ6? Or if something bigger, FZ1 / FJR?

yeah.. TS basically have quite alot of choices, but sportsbikes are definitely not as comfortable.

my insurance.. cheapest i found is AXA.. TPFT 800$ after NCD

good bike for daily usage.. but immediate maintenance cost are tyres... and if any part failure would be more ex than super4.

Really Super 4 can sustain 180km/hr for long periods? Engine might go Kaa-Puut!... Maybe 140-150km/hr might still be ok.. Stress load not that high.
