Hi everyone :cheeky:

I'm turning 18 this coming june 23rd. .

Been dreaming about biking ever since i got my first toy motorbike .

My uncle died when he was my age , body got pulled after being

hit by a lorry. Intestines were sprawled all over the road. Gruesome .

Just last year 3 of my cousins died in a car accident. .

I just wanna come here to research about the costs of motorbikes per month etc

Because i'm a student still. Every month i reckon i would have $250?

I have already set my mind up to make do with a second hand kup kia or a

phantom.

Because it is

: fuel efficient

: cheap

: gets me to point a and back

: won't be prone to thefts , vandalism if i dont make it

too eye catchy.

:no problem pillioning a light girlfriend.

Alot of the veterans here always recommend the noobs (me)

to bring someone very expert when buying a 2nd bike .

The problem is this. How do noobs have an expert biking friend?

So i started this thread for noobs like me to get experience ,

maybe an expert friend who free enough to accompany them

during purchase. And to just chat :)

I stay in sengkang , school starts 12th april , NYP.

The main reason for a bike is that my bus , 159 , takes the unnecessary turn

into hougang green which is like so redundant. -.- And i hate taking buses. Haha

The bike ive decided to get is a Bajaj Pulsar 180. :) it goes about 50km/l if u dont whack i heard. :) dont know whether it will be more fuel efficient than the bike u have decided to get! :) lucky for me i have some pro friends whom i know from my workplace that would gladly accompany me to get my "first" secondhand bike when the time comes. :)

bringing an experienced rider can only help you so much. knowing the market price, the accessories included, and so on and so forth. but know this, buying a 2nd hand bike is always a gamble. you won't know what is going on in the engine.

this i must say its really based on your luck. i've been riding for 2 years and i've never came across such unfortunate events.

as for your choice of bike, i'd say spark/wave/x1.

Is it better to take a bike say left with 3 years for the duration of my education of more for long long term use? paid with cash. .

or get a new bike with loan . . .

How do you know you will like biking? Go take a 2b licence 1st and take it from there. Insurance cost is the one that you need to save up on while you take yr lessons.

anyway, i miss wildcard.

Because i like to bicycle . . and i love going down slope. . you know no need pedal and moving . so motorbike will recreate that effect .

Does it matter whether i like ? hahahaah.

How much will it be if i take phantom and how much will it be for kup kias?

just rough figure wil do :)

I see...:) you will need 2k up front when you are ready to buy a second hand phantom /kupkias.

anyway, i miss wildcard.

Why those instead of a phantom?

In all honesty I've not much info/experience on these bikes under the same criteria as you. Should look into Singapore Bikes Communities forum to check with the riders who ride those bikes.

As for myself, I've rode a 2B sportbike and currently a Super 4.

Just to add, based on current preowned T200 phantom prices, it can be $800 to $1500. So if you add in insurance it may cost you up to at least 3K. As you are still a student, bike shop is unlikely to grant you a loan unless you get a guarantor. So looks like you have to forked out at least 3K.

anyway, i miss wildcard.

I think sportbike wait till i can get a cb400 then i consider for now i can only

look at fuel efficient ones and class 2b :)

Yesterday i went on window shopping in the pk forum . 3 years or less coe the phantoms ,

costs 1k and below . .

Insurance is not go with the bike? insurance is for bike or for rider? i gabra -.-

Guarantor i most probably can get , but how long can i take to repay them?

Can i stretch a 5k loan for 5 years?

i counted base on 5% interest i will be paying $500 in

interest over the 5 year. . If within the 5 year i got money can pay off one short? will i be charged the

$500 -.-

Btw are there first hand phantoms? Kup kia i know definitely have but phantom i see like eol -.-

Lastly i wanna thank swoosh for reading my thread and even answering. haha.

Maybe after i learn and get my bike i can treat you lim kopi , for helping me out . .

no brand new phantoms, all phantoms you see will be 2nd hand.

give you a rough estimate, i 21 year just got license last september, my insurance for phantom is 620. yours will probably be even higher since you are 18. just pass.

February 2011 - March 2012 = Phantom TA 200

March 2012 - August 2013 = Suzuki Impulse 400

Present = BMW (Bus, MRT, Walk)

Best to full cash for a cheap bike, a phantom with a couple of years of Coe you can fetch at 2k? I'm not sure. But you add on installment this is how much it's gonna cost.

Full cash cost: $2000 + insurance ~$700(Approx) + transfer fee $100.

Total: $2800.

Instalment of 3years(36mths)

$2800(initial total cost) + $480(hire-purchase cost) + interest at 5%/annum * 3yr. Disregard any admin fees your loan may contribute

= $3.7k to $3.8k. However is more affordable over time due to the cost of only $110/mth. But you pay $1k more.

You need your remaining $140 from your allowance for food, fuel, bike maintenance and misc.

My physical vision recepts naught, but my mind is tranquil.

No ah, hire purchase cost is included when you take loan, it's a gimmick for their profit. Difficult but possible, eat maggee and bring sandwiches :(
