Hi guys.

Just wanna ask around from people who works in Raffles Place cause I haven't had much experience riding through peak hour in CBD area.

The dilemma I have is that I live just in toa payoh. which seriously speaking isn't very far away from raffles place should I MRT down. So if I go everyday via CTE or Nicoll Highway is it like really bad jam and a pain in the ass to ride down in the morning? then there's still the issue of parking. So I'm kinda still weighing the pros and cons between taking public transport and riding.

Any inputs would be appreciated!

MRT very packed, sardines in a tin can, sometimes smell Chinamen and women armpits.

Ride through CBD area must pay ERP, must know way because its already difficult to squeeze sometimes, wrong lane and you'll have to go one round, maybe go out of CBD area and come in again and pay ERP again.

i live in Toa Payoh as well, and been working at Raffles Place (office hour) for past 4 years.

If you take train 17min from Toa Payoh to Raffles Place MRT.

If you ride, it's about the same time or even longer if there is jam.

There are 2 ERP on CTE, one at Havelock exit, so it is not much cheaper.

and does not include parking charges.

But i choose to ride, be it rain or shine, Riding is the only refreshing mode before going to work, and relieving stress after work.

Try commuting to work using both forms of transport to get an idea of which method is cheaper/faster/more pleasant. You might also want to consider the following:

1) Whether you are going home immediately after work. Riding tends to make after-work appointments much more convenient.

2) What time you leave the office. If you leave earlier or later than the rush hour at 6pm, chances are your evening journey will be much quicker than your morning commute, thus saving you more time.

3) Whether your home and workplace are close to the MRT station. If you have to walk long distances or wait for unpredictable feeder buses, the bike will probably be quicker at least some of the time.

4) Whether you have to carry around heavy/bulky items like laptops.

5) Whether your office building offers free parking for bikes.

6) Whether your company will reimburse your taxi fare if you leave after a certain hour. If so, it might make more sense to take the train on days you anticipate working late.

7) Whether you are able to do anything productive/interesting on public transport. If you are able to read/do work then you might want to take public transport at times.

8) The likelihood of rain, and how much this inconveniences you.

If you leave your bike in the car park, you are still incurring cost. Avoid jams/ERP by going to work early.

Thanks all for the inputs.

Oh ya and I completely overlooked stupid ERP. I'll be working at UOB Plaza and from what I know I doubt there's any proper/cheap parking for bikes anywhere near there. I even contemplated parking at Central and walking down but I think that's seriously damn xiong.

there are some good places to park around UOB plaza (free ofcuz) and you can take balestier, north bridge road route.. only 1 ERP compared to 3 from CTE.

The gothere website is your best friend. It has fairly accurate estimates of travelling time by both public and private transport. You can even check for parking and ERP gantries. Try googling "motorcycle parking" for the parking wiki.

actually all buildings with no motorcycle entry signs will accept bikes.

just get your management to speak to mcst, why risk parking on the pavement and leaving it exposed to the elements and possible parking fines?

put the mac or kfc box on your bike and park on pavement to bluff ppl

Always ride safely and defensively.

Repair bike cheap and fast,

Repair body expensive and slow.

Has anyone tried the small streets along south bridge road that stretch? There got motorcycle lots?

Small road along south bridge road, behind some restaurants? don't have bike lots at the back. Double Yellow Line, no parking.
