hey any of you guys got problems hitting 5000rpm? Initially, my rpm meter was too light, now they adjusted it for me and i'm virtually at 2000rpm all the time. My rpm at 6th gear, 100kph is 2000+. Is that normal?

mine at 6th gear,100kph is about 3100 to 3200..

Mine's first batch FI bird, at 6th gear rpm @ 2k, my speed will be at around 60km/h. 3k rpm, speed at about 90km/h. @5k rpm, speed about 150km/h.

something's not right from your tachometer's output. At 100km/h your rpm should be more than 3k rpm. If you resize your spocket set, than it a different story.

Hi earlybird and stdudu, thanks for the feedback. Mine's a 99' FI model as well, and i believe its the something to do with the tacho. Think i'm gonna have to ask the mech to get it fixed...again. The last time, the tacho was too light so it red lines damn fast. Any problems to share regarding this model? Other then the FI lights which i already got fixed...hopefully. I've oso got a problem sometimes with ignition. There's no response when i press the ignition. My friend told me that it might have something to do with the whole circuitry connecting that to the signal lights and some other electronics..

Like to ask a question. I was told that an EFI model upon morning start up revs high and then very quickly the rev counter drops back to 1000rpm after the engine temperature rises midway. Is that true cos i have seen my friend's bike a few day's ago and he said that it is the characteristic of the bike. Is it a warming up sequence for the EFI version of the blackbird? Very curious.....

hi guys,

i know this isnt the best place to post a question on the blackbird, but im kinda interested in the offer here:

http://www.singaporebikes.com/forum/index....howtopic=138980

my original dream bike was the haya, but ive heard its users tell me that every EO change and spark plug costs minimum $150 and that the haya eats tyres and destroys chain+sprocket....which means maintenance is high.

in addition my lifestyle doesnt really suit riding a haya, so im looking at other options, though i wont rule out owning a haya in the future.

here are the questions from my post at the thread, hope u guys can help!

is the blackbird good for everyday transport and short sprints on weekends? i dont go to m'sia often and not planning to for the next half a year at least, work/study constraints.

how is the fuel consumption like? full tank?

maintenance wise compared to haya as mentioned earlier? please please state numbers if possible!

road tax/yr?

9.5k gd price? =X

well, im new to cls2 riding....so please accomodate.. thanks!

to tell u the truth...

haya.. bird..eats up rear tyre...:p

its ur riding habit which determine the usuage of rear tire... spocket n chain will be dependent pn ur normal oiling...

the servicing for the bird is almost as the haya..

rd tax 404 per yr..

able to reach 280-300km b4 1st blink of reserve..

Frankly, all big cc bikes are quite expensive to maintain. The bb is a strong bike and pulls away well cos of high horse power. Like SaintDuDu said, chain, sprockets wear depends on your riding habits, also fuel useage. Very different if you have been riding smaller cc bikes before.

Personally know quite a few bb owners going up north to top up on petrol to cut riding cost. Second hand bb have their advantages (price compared to new ones) and disavantages too. Honda bikes are known to fail on their coils, rectifiers and battery. This could add up to an amount.

But if you have a deep wallet, likes fast bikes and also a careful rider, get one

I personally would not mind buying a second hand bb. Spend another 2 grand and do up the bike. Like change all bike fluids, even radiator. If mileage is high, get a top engine shim job, change the cam chain and tensioner. Flow out the front suspension oil, if have money change the front fork spring. Bleed the brake system, check the brake pistons and seals for clogs up and change the brake hoses to goodridge or hel (something similar). Put on a good pair of tyres. Check all wheel bearings including the steering cone.

Sounds extreme, but this are wear and tears on a second hand bikes and any owner or bikeshop will swear that everything is ok. Once papers are done, you are on your own. Go to a good shop, one with a honest reputation and put your mind at rest. I had many bad experiences in my last 25 years of riding.

yo sexyh,

thanks alot for the input! =D

likes fast bikes and a careful rider, but deep wallet i dont have =D

what u said was my initial plan too, but i didnt plan to get into such details with regards to doing up the bike.

besides, to check certain things like wheel bearings and cone bearings....open already might as well change. esp things like top end servicing also, same thing but more expensive.

still a little apprehensive, first time im buying such a big item and the first time im probably going to have to hire-purchase something and pay bloody interest.

No problem. A lot of people selling their bikes finds it hard to do so. Reason is that also the majority of the bike shops out there wants you to refinance the outstanding loan of the previous owner. I think one of the only option is to take a loan from finance companys, but they wants to check your credentials first like how much you earn and submit payslips like that, what a lot of documents and policies. :giddy:

anything i should look out for when purchasing this bike? i mean any problems particular to the blackbird?

Hi okl & all...welcome to the Birdies' nest

First of all......

1. Check is it a digital or analog meter. Analog meter is the first batch of FI BB will have some sort of FI problem and the wire harness connection also contributed to the FI problem. If it a digital meter than it the improved version BB.

2. Mileage of the bike...if it high milage(>100k) then when does it done it valve shim job? when does it replace it cam chain and tensioner.

It not a problematic bike so can't think of much now....normal wear of tire, chain & spoket.

Everyone of us have our own preference and this is my 2 cents of thought:

For everyday use and short sprint, nake bike will be better than a BB, bike like Hornet 9, CB1000, Z1000 ect... ect

BB are good for long ride. FC around 14km/L ~ 17km/L (consider high if compare to above nake bike)

Maintenance cost:

4 spark plug = abt $12 x 4 =$48

EO 4 bt = abt $15 x 4 = $60

1 set of tire = around $350 ~ >$500 depend what tire u want

1 set of chain & spoket around $300

Original brake pad = abt $70 per set x 3 set = $210

All the above are cost of parts only leave alone e workmanship.

All big bike (>1000cc) maintenance cost are quite similar.

Hope the above can help and wish you :goodluck: for your bike hunting.

wanna ask where can fix those radiiator protector..mesh type...

the radiator protector is just a piece of metal mesh that covers the radiator that protects it from stones or object while riding.......

ask around on the bike shops...some of them does it...

i do know that K&T does it....you might wanna ask Clifford about it....
