Startup at 1.4 nuetral at 1-1.1

For fi birds... Cold start(where the temp gauge goes blank) it will fast idle at 1.8-2krpms till the temp hits 60-70 degrees.. Then it will go down to 1.1-1.3krpms..when you engage 1st gear rpm will go up by 100-200rpms to ease moving off. When temperature hits 102 deg or more engine rpm will go up abit to help battery charging as fan is draining current and to turn the water pump faster which in return circulates the coolant faster to dissipate heat...

now this is funny.

cold start i am getting like 1.1-1.3 can hear the engine is doing fast idle.

all warmed up. 60 deg it will hover ard 1.1 or some time less, like choking. hmmm i just washed the throttle body leh... whats wrong man.. my auto choke nvr seem to work full time.. hmm nvr seen it go till 1.5 for fast idle.

but when its all hot and worked up. (103 deg) its idle in neutral is 1.4... in gear is abit higher like 1.5

There is no replacement for displacement, except for Ah Seng

Like that need to reset your autochoke...Normally i reset mine when engine is cold(not started minimum 3 hrs...) Need to takeout your airbox before can adjust the autochoke... There will be two 6mm jam nut that needs to be adjusted...

When cold i adjust the nut all the way up to 1.8-2krpms..Let the engine run till the temperature gauge hits 70-80 deg...by then the rpm should drop to 1.1-1.3Krpm...If its higher, need to loosen the linkage abit..Since you just got your throttle body serviced, why not drop down back to the bikeshop to get the mechanic readjust..

I've seen some FI birds with bad autochoke adjustment that while warm up,i can hear the engine knocking due to idling speed too low..This will have and effect on the engine cylinder bore and rod bearing...

Well toking abt autochoke, since den clean mine and i must say the internal is full of crap.Need to sand it with the finest sand paper and also clean the internal casing too.Since the auto choke is also in line with the radiator,i believe the crap from the rad is making its way to the autochoke. Will only affect those with 8~9 yrs BB.

Anyway Jbat...is it advisable to remove the thermostst since our bike have autochoke??...juz wondering ah.

Hi guys,

did anyone mentioned me, no wonder i was sneezing last week.

Yes, i did a complete mod on my i think 2001 sliver bb and customize many things. If you look back at this thread somewhere in between the year 2007 and till just before Jun 2009 you might see some pictures that i had posted with the mods in place.

Sujak, you were quite correct except i spent a bomb on this mod (almost 5K to be precise). Sold the bike because i had frozen shoulder on my both top part of shoulders and had to give up bike. Sold it for a fraction of a price (so cheap i don't even want to mention).

AS long as the next owner is happy using it, i am not complaining. I moved along after that in year 2009 August 7th bought myself a new Yamaha Tmax (great ride) and finally recovered from the frozen shoulder illness.

Now a happy owner of a 2009 Honda Goldwing 1800. Honestly, sad to have sold it if not for my shoulder pain (sigh....that life, you cannot win all the time). You know what guys, everytime a BB passes by, i will always turn my head a look. Great bike, keep it heathly running and it will serve you well). Cheers!

Not advisable bro..without the thermostat, the engine will take even longer time to warm up.Plus you autochoke(wax unit) will take a longer time to bring down the rpms. I've seen engines having abnormal wear just because they remove the thermostat. How abnornal?..I see scuffings on the piston skirt, more cylinder oval wear on the bore's thrust side...

When the engine is running the piston will expand faster than the cylinder bore. As we know coolant circulates around the cyinder bore's water jacket. Thermostat allows the coolant to circulate only in the engine to warm up the cylinder bore in return allowing the piston and cylinder bore to warm up simultaneously.

Do you have a headlight switch on/off headlight switch mod?..If yes i suspect there's a loose wire connector harness somewhere near the headlight...Need to take out your headcowl to access it...Mine also kena that when i just bought my bird few years back.

hmm ya lor ya lor like the bike coughing leh. the bike shop always is full. very irritating. hmmm do u mind helping me out??

I'll see my schedule bro.....hopefully on 1st of october i'm free..need to clean my airfilter and readjust my autochoke also..

Hi Guys,

Recently I send my bike to change the coolant. The mechanic told me that my clutch housing and clutch plates need to be replaced. They quoted me about $800 ++.

Is the price quoted ... too expensive? If yes, any bike repair shop which I can patronize.

If my memory serves me right, I did ask a shop before about changing the housing/basket. It should be around $300. As for the plates, am not sure about it. Gasket is about $30 thou. Labour should be abt $50. I guess the price should be ard $500-$600. If it is $800, i think it is quite steep.

Have you asked other shops? Bikeworks is a good shop to gauge for the pricing.. coz their pricing is quite reasonable..
