my 2 cents,

 

i hope singaporeans WAKE UP...

 

i donno all your rambling and quote me some more, but here's my own additional 2 cents.

 

i want a parliament of say 87 seats, i would very much like to see 58 PAP and 29 WP, with 29 all very credible opposition WP mp's, all united with no stupid in-fighting. that is my ideal parliament. oppos have a significant voice, and the swee-swee 2/3 composition means PAP needs to make sure they never screw up tip the balance. and if they still screw up, such a situation means WP needs to just grow a bit more and they might take over.

 

and with current reasult, thats why i say ten to twenty years from now, we might recognize today as maybe the birth of an alternative government. now that wp has secured 5 seats, they have a chance to prove their brand of opposition and attract more quality people towards them, meaning even more credible opposition politicians in future.

 

and my point is, i want all this for the future.

 

i dont want this happen today because just like pyro13 describe, i dont think the oppos are up to the mark yet. but one day i want to see them perform a credible role in parliament.

 

i dont need chaos just for the sake of chaos, just to spit in PAP's face. if i spit on PAP's face, i want to be sure there's a credible opposition able to take over. today, there isn any. but today, i hope is the start of wp's growth to become such an opposition party, so that one day in future i really can spit on pap's face. if i want to coz they never change that is.

 

if you want to spit on PAP's face today, just to teach them a lesson, even if lower calibre opposition mp's partly run the country, heck your vote is yours go ahead and vote lor. just dont imply 'singaporeans never learn' for everyone who think differently from you.

40% of voters are under-represented by 6 oppo MPs. + 3 if you count NCMP.

 

the 60% get to be over-represented by and overwhelming 81 PAP MPs, + 9 Nominated MP (NMP)

 

so you have 90-9.

 

two-thirds majority of seats does not equate to two-thirds majority of votes. so in the long run, PAP will still return to its old high-handed ways of doing things.

 

We want a government that do what we wish for, but at the same time safeguard us from the ills of unsustainable overspending like in the US.

 

we do not want a government which think it has the rights to impose upon us what it think would be good for the country.

 

We make good and bad decisions, and we live with it. Its our choice.

Why should your life be dictated by others?

a little disappointed with the results.. but its kind of expected for most.. i am happy for WP, they did well.

i was silently hoping marine parade could pull off an upset but it didnt happen and i already did my part. why? there are alot of pple who still fear.. fear they cannot get flats, cannot get jobs, fear their loved ones and assets will not be safe. sigh. so now they are happy lor.

 

More good years ahead for the rest of us. They can happily have the impression that they will have higher chances of getting flats, higher chances of getting a govt job, their loved ones and assets are safe by having more FTs in this land.

For example, nsp in tamp, r u kidding me??? A warehouse assistant running for candidacy??i werk in an warehpuse enviroment and i am in charge of warehoise asst!! They are always d staff tt are frequent late comers, and calculative wen it comes to werk! They are d type tt wakes up feeling horny and would forego werk to have a quicky! I wouldnt bloody hell trust my future to one of them.

 

Singapore is a meritocratic society. Everything is based on papers. Much less our language and articulation.

 

Reform partys mansor, d way he talks, it sounds like as if hes struggling. And d issues he brpught up are more racial than others. Hes jus trying tp hype up d malays and garner their votes. We r talking about 5 years of our lives. As much as pap has increased the price of living.

U rarely hear pple dying of hunger.

U nv hear pple die of thirst.

Our singapprean women are not known as maids overseas.

We singappreans are known as hardwerking.

 

If d opposition wanted to take d place, get better candidates. Not short sighted, misarticulating individuals who only see the problems at hand but do not anticipate tt it cpuld cost singapore its identity as a multi racial country.

 

Tat being said, im nt a supporter of pap, i hate them fpr d foreign talents who stink up out buses and spit on our roads. I hate them for such high housing prices. I hate them for Most of my pet peeves but we do still survive.

Because we do the hard work and we get paid peanuts while the supervisor just walk around ordering us what to do and never break a sweat. Put yourself in their shoes. I think they use that certain candidate so as to let others see that they know what we are experiencing as citizens. To represent the lower and middle income citizens. But I guess it did not worked out as planned.

So moral of the story is, premium education only guarantees good memory, but not recipe of success commercially. Tons of successful bizmen do not have complete education.

 

So our ministers self proclaim millions pay base on their qualifications alone is flawed. Because most of them have no real war experience, meaning commercial dealings/negotiation skills on a global scale and years of project management.

 

Meaning to say, did we really get such a good deal or not, the quality of our FTs? Or are we collecting thrash for china and india as part of the negotiation?

It just boggles my mind to think how people can elect TPL into parliament. I guess she can buy more Kate spade bags, do more kawaii poses and stomp her feet when she does not know what to say in parliament.

 

In any case, the elections have proven that the rising cost of living, presence of too many FTs, etc are just a myth. Singaporeans have never encountered these issues as the men in white have been doing a good job. Well done Singapore. Im sure you will live and rejoice over the next 5 years. And I bet the results will be the same even in the next and future elections.

Indeed, these videos shows that Mr. Chiam See Tong have a really huge amount of Supporters who are upset that PAP had won Potong Pasir, a Ward that is under his care for 27 years. Really an eye-opening experience for me!

1) if you believed opposition quality is "low", let me assure you ALL PAP candidates are ALWAYS extremely "well-qualified". But still we have so many problems today. many of these problems are NOT DUE TO THEIR LACK OF INTELLIGENCE / "QUALITY" LET ME ASSURE YOU. So by having more "quality" PAP candidates, will we be able to solve the problems? No, it is a lack of "resolution" & "CONFLICTS OF INTERESTS TO THE TOP".

 

there were many "good-hearted" & capable PAP candidates before. BUT they were never promoted to showcase their abilities. The group that were promoted ( most of them ) are due to their "talent" to "further the interests of the incumbents in power especially those at the top".

 

the situation has become so bad that it has turned to a FARCE... "the SMARTER & MORE HARD-WORKING they are, the MORE THE PEOPLE HAVE TO PAY & SUFFER."

 

Let me exacerate ( spelling? ) a little to make it clearer...

 

imagine we have a relatively "POOR" opp MP that does nothing but just oppose all UNNECESSARY INCREASE IN BURDEN TO THE PEOPLE, ALL UNNECESSARY INCREASE IN LIVING COSTS ( remember PAP always tell us ALL THESE INCREASES ARE NECESSARY, INCLUDING THEIR PAY & PAY ).

 

imagine we have a "DUMB" oppo MP that refuses to allow a further increase intake of even MORE FT for the next 5 years etc...

 

i am already talking about a WORST CASE SCENARIO or even worst...

 

the guy does nothing except JUST TO MAKE PAP BE ON THEIR TOES & STOP "BULLYING" SINGAPOREANS...

 

Besides, some of the oppo candidates are better than that, many have concrete proposals to help the people. are you aware of their ideas? are their ideas really that "bad" ???

 

2) i am not from NSP nor affilated to any oppo party BUT NSP's Goh Meng Seng sold his own HDB Flat to raise money for his political cause. Whatever his ambitions you suspect, at least HE WAS WILLING TO RISKS HIS OWN MONEY.

 

He & his team lost to a certain Minister that tell us housing costs in singapore are " affordable" & belongs to a party whose leaders CONSTANTLY TELL US WE HAVE TO PAY THEM MILLIONS IN ORDER TO GET THEM TO WORK FOR US !

 

Character? Sincerity? Willingness to serve? So MBT was better?

5) i heard a saying from somewhere..."if you find yourself in a deep hole...stop digging" . my english may not be correct but i think you know what i mean. If voting PAP for the past 23 years have not improved but EVEN WORSEN our OWN SITUATION, we should continue to vote for them ??? If someone that constantly rip u off for 23 years & never return the huge sums of money you lent them, will you still gave them chances & continue to lend them even more money??? If u say yes, i will LOVE TO BORROW MONEY from you.

At 2006 election, they had the lowest vote count since 1991. They did some souls searching. and the result are:

 

1) Increase GST

2) Increase Ministers' pay

3) Increase in Foreign Talents to take away our jobs

4) Increase Unversity places for Foreign talents (with scholarship), at the expanse of your next generation.

5) Increase Housing price

6) Increase COE

7) Incresse Traffic Jams

8) Increase Public Transport & car vehicles ownership cost

9) increase Utilities cost

10) Increase health care cost - remember Mean test was postponed on even of 2006 elections to swing vote?

 

The list go on.

 

with PAP holding 82/87 seats, it is more likely that we are downraded from seconda citizen to 3rd class already.

 

IF PAP had listen to us, some or all the following will happen

1) MBT, Raymond Lim, Vivian Balakristina, WKS & TPL etc should be out

2) all so call Foreign Talents will be send back without delay

3) PR status be withdraw to those who just completed teritray education

4) PR status terminated to those so call Foreign Talents

5) Citizenship denied to those who not do NS

6) No more GRC

i am one of those who stayed up till 3 am plus to watch mr mono-tone yam ah mee the returning officer annouce the results(he was a delight lol)

 

All wanna say is TPL is a joke.She's gonna earn 15k/month just by saying "i don't know what to say !" in parliament.Or maybe just stamp her feet lor. There goes our taxpayers money.

 

I can foresee that after 6 months..our gst will go up by 10% , erp increase by 50% and hdb resale flats will rise by 90% ..lol......then all up singapoorean will just have to LL suck thumb..Last but not least NS for singaporeans,jobs for foreigners.All thanks to pui and pui.

yes i am aware of their ideas. no their ideas are not all 'bad'. i in fact support WP's idea of pegging brand new flat prices to median incomes of the targeted buyers. great idea.

 

but no, not all their ideas i think are better than pap's. and thats my bottomline. give me an oppo mp with better ideas than pap, and they will get my vote. had wp contested my ward, they would have gotten my vote. but they don't get my vote just because their ideas are 'not bad', i want ideas which are better than pap's.

sorry, i disagree again. not good enough for me. if a quality minister like george yeo is going to be kicked out, then the oppo mp kicking him out better jolly well be of low thia kiang or chiam see tong calibre. i will not vote to oust someone like george yeo for a 'dumb oppo mp'.

to clarify, i quoted pyro13 for the concept that not all the oppo candidates are up to the mark. my quote has nothing to do with warehouse wateva. i judge the candidate by what he says, how he says it and what he does about it. his academics and profession is not part of my judging criteria.

i like this quote, because i can apply it to tin pei ling. because tin pei ling was given a free ride precisely because pap feels she will otherwise not get an early mp experience if not for such a free ride.

 

but i am against the tin pei ling concept. by the same token, i fairly apply it to oppo mp's as well: you dont get a free ride just coz you are oppo so you must be given experience; you must prove you are worth my vote.

 

explain to me why it is not biased to say give low-quality oppo free ride for the sake of giving them experience, but at same time saying tin pei ling low quality no experience should not have received free ride.
