When you approach the plank, concentrate on getting yourself positioned correctly first... i.e. facing straight ahead, bike moving straight ahead (not slanted towards one side or the other). For this, you might need a little speed cause slow bikes tend to want to wobble this way or the other.

After you are positioned correctly then worry about timing... reason being you can be moving very slow, but if you keep going slanted to one side sooner or later you are going to drop off the plank.

If you are not very good at balancing then make sure you ride onto the plank facing straight, then continue going straight, it's much easier.

If you are good at balancing then you have more leeway whether you want to go up the plank slanted or whatever, but make sure you are able to bring the bike moving straight once you are on the plank... or at least compensate for your sideways entry by steering slightly in the other direction once you get a little too close to the side. Usually if you use this method then you will have to keep compensating all the way down the plank but you can get better timing cause the total traveled distance will be further (zig zag versus straight)

If you prefer to look at the plank while doing, don't look at the bit of plank directly in front of the bike, look at the bit of plank a little distance away from the bike, it's easier to balance. you can try looking straight ahead too, but i've never tried that before...

And most importantly, relax! :)

Hope this helps :cheeky:

boring rider. with a boring bike.

My advice: Do not care too much about the timing till you can get thru' that plank without falling off. And the best way to do that is just to open throttle.

Have a friend who was so concerned about the timing that he have never made it thru' the plank without falling once. Needless to say, he repeated Lesson 3 a couple of times.

During my Lesson 5, the girl in front of me fell off the plank while I scrapped thru with 5.94s... Heh. My point being... 4-sec timing with a 6-pt penalty is better than a IF.

if you just want to clear the plank easily, can find out how long it takes for you to clutch in and roll across the plank.

who knows maybe like that you can pass already...

Hi, I'm currently doing L2. Should I use gear 1 or 2 to go up the slope? I forget to ask the instructor.

gear 1 for 2b bikes

1. If you have stop at waiting area to clear, u enter slope @ gear one .

2. For L4 & above + TP, If traffic condition is clear from the moment u turn right @ junction , follow by filter left , u enter slope @ gear two. (be traffic condition dependent)

From Honda's Phantom to ..................

Clearing each stage at SSDC and BBDC for bike license was fun !!!

Thank you! :thumb:

actually they said we should be in gear 2 for going up the slope and not to drag the gears when going up the slope.... the instuctors explained that 1st gear the throttle too sensitive so hard to control when going up the slope.... i guess it also depends where you are coming from.... if your starting from the green cone its going to be hard to pick up enough acceleration to kick up to 2nd without your engine vibrating like crazy.... so i guess if your coming from after the traffic light and the coast is clear, use 2nd gear as you are making the turn up the slope and kick to 1st just before you stop the bike....

any lao jiao care to clarify this?

Cheap + fast = no good

Cheap + good = not fast

Good + fast = not cheap

Was told gear 1 if u stop beside the slope waiting for your turn to go up (when the four slots are full). Gear 2 if u enter from far without stopping below the slope.

if lets say your on the move going to slope then gear 2 is ok, but if you stop before the slope it must be gear 1.

But to use gear 2 on slope need skill one because you need to go back to gear 1 when on slope else you might need to do the stall engine drill.

for ebrake any recommended pressure to apply for front and rear, which one to apply more

The reason why there is e brake is because you need to feel the power of brakes

ie: how much brake to apply for that speed. There are not of any guide lines for 2b e brake i know off. You just have to feel the correct amount of brakes you have to apply yourself.
