It'll be fun with a group of friends on the same type of machinery... Gilera runners were quite common till quite recently. Just keep the bike road worthy and do your homework on tyre pressures you supposed to set. Don't worry about larger capacity motorcycles, if they have any courtesy at all(Yet to encounter anyone without), they won't pass others closely unless neccessary. Being a track day as opposed to a race, it's the duty of the rider behind to pass safely(isn't it always?), plus no blue flags and nothing at stake so don't bother checking if you are blocking anyone.

I know what the threadstarter is concerned about.

If you're afraid of being overtaken (for self-safety's sake), elect to go to PG on a weekday. Less bikes.

I went on a Friday once in the morning. There was this group of Singaporeans and Malaysians that caught my eye: They were riding KRR, cubs, and the like (2 strokers). The point is, they seemed to be taking things cool, having fun, and doing serious bike testing/racing.

BTW, there were only 13 of us. 8 of them were the abovementioned, me and another guy, plus 3 big bikes.

When you're confident (and you have cultivated some "give-way" ethics for those who want to overtake you), pick popular days such as Saturdays or Sundays.

Oh, and it'll be better if you have someone to tag along...the more the merrier. See you at PG one day bro!

I do visit the track every now and then.. Hook me up if you're REALLY interested (btw, I'm slow). And yes, I ride a cub. Seen many other cubs there too. No prob at all. In fact, many a cub-racer there actually is clocking faster timings then most weekend warriors armed with big sportsbikes.

Its the rider. Cheers.

malaysian cubs i think normal.. how about SG?

i'm inspired by the malaysian cubprix last 2 races at sepang and PG..

hey stroker i heard u ride kallang cubprix yea?

u sure noe carpark and track racing is totally diff..

in my opinion, carpark race is all about pick-up, last minute braking, sharp bends and good control of ur bike..

on track, cubs are good for corners cos they are light (easier to "slap").. some corners the daredevils don't even brake..

so stroker wat bike u ride at PG and how's ur experience?

i've ever heard of a rider from thai got a timing of 1:30+ on a honda dash (125cc 2-stroke) at PG.. super wow.. the super small nova dash looks like pic below..

You must've heard from some unreliable sources... No, I don't race. I'm too old, fat and slow for all these sh!t.

Of course, carpark and big track's different. Very different. Don't brake at carpark?? That's a sure way to DNF. There're many very experienced racers here in sbf who races regularly at the kallang cubprix ie Fat Di, Bryan30, Number17 etc.. They can help fill up more info.

Anyway, I ride a cub in pg. I dunno what's the big hoo-haa about riding one there. Is there any diff between sg or msia cubs? To me, I still think its the rider. My lousy cub works well there (other then the times it went kaput-ed).. Very nimble. Requires loads of corner speeds. A great way to train yourself up.

Ah.. The Thais.. I dunno about 1:30+++ on a dash... I've heard that rumour also. But as far as I know, the 125Zs have clocked 1:46 (at the prime era '02 - '03) at pg. And the GP125 Thai champion racers such as Direk Achawong 'only' clocked a 1:36 on his heavily kitted Castrol sponsored GP125. So for a dash to beat that, I dunno man... As far as I'd witnessed, the dash are faster yes, but NOT a whole lot (10sec up) faster then a 125Z. So you do your maths.

IMHO, get your of your room facing the computer, and have a real go at the track. That's better then a million advises here. Cheers!~

hai jaz to share my expreience, i ever ride my unmodded wave at pg and it sucks freakin slow as hell... so itz kinda boring, my suggest is u do sum mod to your bike before u go, so ur bike will hav the power to play if not itz gona be damm boring

Posted

i din take any timing due to curiosity (i wana see how a wave perform on a track) and juz fer the fun of it...but one thing for sure the brakes are useless, u dun nid to apply dem wen entering a corner coz if u do den u'll be too slow wen u are exiting the corner

Not a chance. Thai rider or not, current machine limits are too great. As Stroker pointed out, few come better than Direk Achawong. As far as smaller capacity PRODUCTION 2 strokes that you and I can buy, only one regional rider has managed 1.41 at PG. This was on a heavily modified NSR150SP and the only rider who did so was Direk Achawong. Even on a competent higher capacity 2-stroke like a well tuned NSR250-PGM4, few riders have gone under 37.

Taking up Stroker's offer to ride together sounds like a good idea.

Yup. Totally agreed. The TZR250SP 3XV (heavily / illegally modified with TZ cylinders) that dominated the Asia Pacific Cup of the yesteryears were clocking like 1:36. The most other PGM4s that the Japs rode, the RGV VJ23s and Aprilia RS250s are not even close...

And yes too, I've seen that Castrol NSR150SP that Direk Achawong rode. Tricked-out. Superb. The Castrol NSRs dominated the whole series. The TZMs didn't even stand a chance...

After the 150cc series ended, they switched to GP125 bikes. Like I've said, his heavily-kitted Honda RS125 GP Bike (estimated 50bhp at the wheels, bike weighs under 70kg), he's best lap (official) at pg is 1:36.

As for the underbone series in the same Asia Pacific Race mentioned above, the Dash was indeed faster then the 125Zs.. Dash are water-cooled. 125Z air-cooled. So not much chance for the 125Z either. But as I've said, although the Dash was faster then the 125Z, they're not a whole lot faster (in excess of 10sec to warrant a 1:30++).

Cheers!~

slow? did u take down roughly how much ur timing?

As a rough gauge, if you can clock under 2:15 with a stock (all else stock except a race pipe) 125/110cc 4stroke cub at pg, I'll  you.

Alternatively, if you can manage to do under 2min on a fully-tricked-out 125/120cc 4stroke cub, again in pg, I'll also  you, plus I'm gonna frame your photo up, as you're gonna be my idol.

Cheers!~

Cubs are NOT as slow as you think. Our big bikes may kill them on the straights. but you should see them take those bends on a wet track.

I dare not throttle too much, dare not make any sudden movement. just taking the bend at a uniformed pace, those kups overtake on the outside like nothing.

Maybe i'm lousy and slow. but seriously think that there's a limit to how fast a corner can be taken, its the lining and technique that matters most.

If your bike is too powerful for you to handle or utilise the power on track, its also quite useless to have a fast and powerful bike. its the rider that matters.

Go try on your kup. its sure gonna be fun. don't care what others say. its the only place you can feel free and safe to speed and test the limit of your bike.

Remember, its not racing... its a session to get to know the limits of yourself and your bike in the safest enviroment available. so dun bother about faster and bigger bikes zooming past.

hi silver..i tried my cub once in PG..i went alone, firstly feel "paiseh" cox all around are sbk..then just went there changing my gear outside the pit..since there all crowded with sbk not even dare to go in..after change then.."ceng.ceng cengh" ekeke just passed by the pit by not showing the face..ekeke..when get into circuit...WOWOW...feel really really good...first time..after have my small little cub for 8 years..even old..but i still enjoy the ride..with all the safety gear..i think this sport is FUN..for me is not about the timing..but i really "playing" n ejoy the time whenever on the bike!!..

IMO, y not we set a time or a thread for cub..then some experience player can share their view n advice..then we can arrange a time to go together with same class bike then shud be fun. ? just only my 2 cents since most of the cub rider who wanna try the ride on PG wil have some feeling like me(not all la :p)..
