Prawning -

Right now Lez and others are doing recon missions to various local prawning sites. I will probably pick the most ulu site in the middle of a forest but who knows, there might be better places. Maybe PM me your facebook ID, I will add you to the discussion group. Would not want to miss out interested parties like yourself.

We will be busy with convoy training + private trading on Friday & as @Lexanez says, short-range Malaysian trips on Saturday and Sunday.

Ponggol marina pretty ulu. I went there for prawning a few years back. donno still there or not.

It's still there and thanks for the information. It'll be our 2nd choice if Neo Tiew prove to be unsatisfactory. Wanna join?

Vlogs from last Friday. The epicness is self-explanatory.

Deliberately filmed one portion in low resolution for the "FLIR, night combat" look.

Since we have had our own private forums / website a number of independent projects have cropped up including HDEO testing, "explore Malaysia" trips and mass DIY bike maintenance sessions.

Oh, and there's @sghondarebel 's vintage projects of course :)

Kopitiam Engineering sessions:

Now we have a supply line for absurdly cheap turbodiesel oil and yes it can be used successfully on motorcycles as your biker friends in Australia, Malaysia and the United States can confirm. Shell Rotella or its Asian equivalent, Rimula X, are internationally regarded as "universal" engine oils.

Read the test report here

http://www.singaporebikes.com/forums/showthread.php/78993-Product-Engine-Oil-Discussion?p=7249458#post7249458

Next up, @BLACK COMET intends to do a little DIY valve clearance session, which should pave the way for more and greater kopitiam engineering goodness :3

HDEO has been enjoyed by a whole range of classic and modern performance bikes including busas, Kawasaki GPZs, supermotards/motos etc.

It's probably been tried before a long time ago and has gained increasing exposure amongst bikers thanks to the Internet. Some in the States who own a whole fleet of bikes, ATVs, cars and heavy vehicles simply use the same oil for the entire fleet.

HDEO as a "universal" oil has been supported officially by Shell representatives. They cite some features of HDEO formulation such as additive content (phosphorous for instance is great for bike engines and new bike oils have less of this) and the lack of friction reducers, as beneficial to motorcycle and ATV use.

The oil even passes JASO certification.

EDIT:

We also have confirmation that Rimula is the Asian equivalent of Rotella in the States, so if you read all of them American motorcycle club forums swearing by Rotella, it's the same stuff.

Malaysia too is way ahead of us with adopting these unconventional but surprisingly effective maintenance practises. See Slackrider forums (or try and google search for rimula + motorcycle)

This is a first time we'll be meeting up in a totally rural setting. Should be epic. Remember to bring mosquito repellent if desired lol.

Aside from these "official" activities we seem to have some good Malaysian trading runs going on. First you tackled the issue of motor oil price, the second perhaps start to look for cheaper chain lubes. Current cost of chain lube is $20++ from Motoworld for the good, big cans.

We can also start kopitiam engineering lessons for electrical work (@rom3 LED project + Satish's) and mechanical - DR200 DIY valve clearance.

It's as comprehensive a motoring curriculum as a small degree lol.

Yes, REPSOL HERO is back!

Thanks for notifying - I was about to start planning to switch to dawn patrol mode already.

@huairen - will add you to next week's convoy. There's one local training on 2 Sep and one overseas trip on 3 Sep. Pick one :3

Tonight's route super challenging training exercise ; that's why usually we will start organising "platoons" and pick venues about 1 week in advance.

Wah, ops department overloaded with paperwork... just like my day job. Two consecutive Malaysian trips for newbies and semi-newbies under "battalion" ICs, one newbie filming/pizza/mooncake outing next Tuesday.

No local convoy this Friday. Riders must get adequate rest for their trips to Bolehland.

If we get everything sorted we can run local clock mileage runs next Friday... to be confirmed of course. Just went gear shopping with the boys, yes promo is at @Motoworld but most of the good Spidi gloves at Kaki Bukit got snapped up already. The ones we got are like, the last of their size. Lots of leather suits going at low low prices though.

Most of our event planning and discussions are on Facebook so it's mostly quiet here.

@huairen - not sure if you still on for Ostrich Farm outing but I asked Will the SBF "battalion" IC to contact you via FB already

Hi :)

The next local outing is this coming Tuesday,6 September 2011.
