The FZ6 is def more powerful than an S4. I've owned an S4, R1 and Fazer 6 (carb version).

The FZ6 will def pick up faster than the S4. 50% more CC. But when cruising, I noticed that they're not geared that much differently.

At top gear,

5K rpm for S4 = 80kph

5K rpm for F6 = 95kph

5K rpm for R1 = 118kph

When touring, speed vs rpm becomes an issue. As you want to maintain a nice comfortable speed without prolonging your time on the road, yet you don't want your bike to run at high rpms too long.... reducing fuel consump and engine stress.

The S4 does around 150 at 8+ to 9+K rpm

The F6 does it at around 7+ to 8+K.

The R1 will do it at 6+K only.

When you think abt running here to Cameron highland at 160kph average (for a nice 5 - 6 hour ride) , then you'll realize how much stress you're putting on the 3 diff classes of bikes.

OTR Pricing

FZ1 - ard 18k

FZ6 - ard 14k

Regarding my insurance when i asked at New Southern Motor... I was quoted 600 for the FZ6 and 1088 for FZ1... insurance company was Alliance and my age is 22... both insurance offered was 2nd party...

For looks wise... FZ1 looks more style with its gold fork... nice "sai tao" and cool seats that looks like the R1 seat...

Pricing wise... if the insurance not so much diff... i would surely get the 1000cc for more power and design...

Overall what i would say is get the FZ1 if you can afford it... if not really dun mind the ugly "sai tao" of the FZ6... it could actually be more than enough for a bike in SG...

Power wise... i dun know... have not rode one before... but can i ask the old bird here... is the FZ6 more powerful than S4? what i mean is the power diff is it a lot when i comes to pick up? cos i personally rode on my friends' S4 and i feel that the power okay okay only... Please advise...

Very good info. Thanx alot~! :thumb:

Anyway, regarding the 5K rpm for R1 = 118 kph.... is it similar to FZ1 since they are more or less of the same capacity.

Yup. 04 R1 top gear 4K = 95, 5K = 118.

Dunno abt the 06 FZ1. Same engine, so should be the same speed at given rpm. But they may not have the same gear ratio across the board.

R1 has a very tall first gear, followed by close ratios up to 6. 1st gear is good for about 160kph (though you'd risk an insane wheelie doing that). Usually on the street, I'd use 1st gear up to abt 50 or 60 kph before going to 2nd.

Not sure whether the FZ1 has the same tall first gear....

The fz1 has a lower 1st gear then the 04R1 . But i can feel tat the pull is stronger then the r1 . Reaching 160km/h take a longer time on the FZ1 . But , the FZ1 run slightly less hotter then the04R1 , i seldom see 90deg celcius on my FZ1 . Fuel consumption is almost the same at arnd 220-260km till reserve .

   i wonder how much stress you're putting on the 3 diff classes rider's back then on their bikes. Cos while doing touring riding posture, wind protection is important too. A upright riding posture is much more comfortable, don't you agreed. I do agreed a 1000cc sport bike are powerful but it for performance on the track thus Doing touring is a pain in the ass. Fazer6 can cruise at 160km/h at ease wif a big shield tat protect me from the wind (which S4 don't have at stock). i had done countless trips exp. cameroon highland, Faser Hill ect with a breeze. BTW tats my opinion.

The S4 suffered a lot. FZ6 also suffer quite a bit.

Only the R1 stayed below 10K for the most part. Surprisingly the 04R1 didn't gimme back ache, and it was my favorite of all when I hit Pos Slim n Gua Musang.

I like to reduce my travel time. :p
