As above, i am going overseas for studies for 6 months. Any butties know what exactly to do? such as take out battery? fill tank full/dun fill at all? oil what parts? Its a GTS200 scooter anyways for guys who wanna know.

Also, how much is the exact cost to lay up/ lay down bike again? anyone with experience? cos i never do such things before ah. Dunno if its more economical to just buy new insurance/road tax or lay up the bike and park at the CP.

Thanks for the help beforehand!

the easiest way out is to find your subrider to ride for you..

laying up the bike is not needed as you are only going for 6months, the hassle of laying up and putting it back on the road is not worth it..

just change engine oil, change sparkplug.. fill it up full and un-plug the battery..

cover it up with 2 layers of canvas and ask your neighbours to look out for it..

when you are back, throw in a new battery and it should be able to start with a couple of cranks..

**since the battery will be drained, why bother to take it out in the first place??**

keeping the battery on it and not riding will cause oxidation at the terminals..

you would have problem starting even with new battery as the terminals are not as conductive..

lastly, enjoy your trip..

i thought supposed to drain out all fluids and disconnect battery? put on main stand so the bike doesn't rest on 1 patch on area on the tyres only.

singapore is not a cold country.. no need to drain out all the fluids..

just change to new oil, the thinner the better.. to lubricate the internals during this time..

draining old oil is to prevent the sediments from crystalising when not running the engine..

without oil and SG humid weather, internals may rust..

Always remember to keep your petrol tank filled to the brim with petrol. Wait later you come back inside rust like hell.

Just change new oil and disconnect the batter will do. I will put a coat of grease on the battery connector as well. If possible, get ester based oil as it will stick on to the engine internal. If yours is a maxi scooter, the fuel tank should be plastic?? No need to worry so much about fuel tank rusty. However I will suggest you change the petrol when you come back as the petrol might have degrade by then. Easiest is to just ask your friend/family to start or ride from time to time. But 6 months not really a very long time.

ahhh.. none knows how to ride it lol. If i ask then to start the bike rev a few min let it run a bit on mainstand abit then turn off u think its a good idea?

disconnect battery, full charge it n keep it.

hmm does that mean i need to buy an external battery charger for bikes?

may i also ask, what about 1 year....i might be going for overseas posting...

Same principle. I've known people who left their bikes for 1 year, come back and can still start BUT the process can be quite hellish, especially with flat battery, choked carburettor, etc....

take out the battery and coat the terminal with WD40. fill your petrol tank and add some fuel stabilizer like FP60 or Marvel mystery oil. give the bike a wash to prevent impurities degrading your paint work. cover it with bike cover. oh, pay your season parking in advance:)

as for the EO, i will just leave it as it is unless you have logged lots of miles with it. I have read UOAs of used engine oil sitting in the engine for more then a decade and it turn out to be just fine.

1) Fill up Gas tank prevent rust in tank.

2) Romve plug, pour a little EO into the engine head, crank abit so to coat the engine block inside with oil, DO NOT combust! Put back plug.

3) Remove battery and store.

4) Clean and wax bike, Cover and secure!

5) Grease all moving parts: Brake,Clutch,Chian,Stand, disc....

6) Pay your Parking!!!

When back to use..just wash again, install and ride..

Note: if petrol no good, drain and change. That it!

Hey guys, I'll will be going overseas for 2 months. Do I still need to 'winterise' my bike. Not riding for 2 months still need to disconnect battery?

My engine oil is new and petrol is full. Thanks.

I think that is what you should just do la. Disconnect the battery, fill up petrol to the brim, new engine oil and most importantly, cover your bike tightly even though you are parking in a multi storey carpark. All the best.
