Mileage in my opinion vaguely indicates how much wear and tear could be in your bike...

though there are exceptions with owners who really look after their bikes and do change engine oil regularly, do not wack their bikes, frequent servicing and regularly wash and check their baby...

And the more kms travelled on the bike...the more chance that it had gotten into an accident :giddy:

You might want your friend to produce service records and check with him/her whether the bike had any accidents at all...cos certain damage might result in slightly deformed bike frames, damaged front forks..leaking due to worn gaskets that might cause accelerated wear and tear to say...tyres...repeated change of battery..need of rewiring..or even overhaul of engine. Just my opinion...do hear more first

Be contented and you have the world... be greedy and you'll never be happy.

Mileage will make a difference if it is too extreme in my opinion. It gives a hint of the engine condition but you have to consider other factors too. Imagine bike A with mileage of 80K and bike B of 100K ..... Bike A has not done any piston change and overhaul to the engine before .... Bike B has done an engine overhauled .... I would choose Bike B if other factors are constant ...

But then if the bike has gone thru many engine overhauls or has gone through it when engine is still relatively new .... it might mean that the bike has been whacked hard until wear and tear took its course.

Also too low a mileage might mean the speedo has been reset or gone through a full cycle ... Therefore, in my opinion the mileage can only be used as a clue to the state of the engine... More importantly, you have to check out the outlook and interior of the bike.

buying a bike w/ high mileage already travelled isnt a problem if u r prepared to fork out some cash to give it a full service or carry out replacement on wear and tear items.

in the aspect wise, it would be good to really bargain for a good price that u need to pay for the bike

unless as the other bros here have mentioned, that the engine has gone thru a major servicing already and supported by proper receipts etc

If you are buying a sports bike, low mileage is good but some people who plays track takes off meter..How to check?

1. Low mileage means owner has less time to whack the bike.(High chance that owner never whack but this doesn't mean owner never play track)

2. High mileage means that owner has almost fully utilized the bike. Therefore a repair is on its way(depends on big or small repair)

If you are buying a touring bikes,I would personally buy a high mileage bike as i know that this machine HAVE to be maintained by owner as he needs the servicing to take him to trips smoothly. I doubt anyone in the right of mind wants a stalled bike at highway or unfamiliar places while doing a trip.(It's a very TROUBLESOME THING).

If u r buying a touring bike with low mileage, this can mean 3 things.

1. Owner no time (busy man)

2. Meter has gone 1 cycle.

3. Owner never maintain bike therefore scared to bring baby out for long trips.

Mileage is just numbers to show how far has this bike travel.Hear the engine for WEIRD & unwanted/unnecessary noises & questioning the owner about bike start from there.Body frame & alignment is hard to check & verify through viewing unless there is scars & marks left.Else it have to be ridden to noticed.

Different age of the bikes also tell different mileage. At an average, 1 biker will clear between 15 000km - 30 000km per year.

Good Luck in buying your new machine.

All said above is based on how i look at it.Not referring to anyone.
