Hello fellow riders,

I have been looking around for a new helmet and have come across many threads on them. However i have not come across one which has tips on how to choose the right size for your head. If i have missed one, i apologize for the overlook.

I have read that the fit up of a helmet is very important as too loose a helmet will give much lesser protection and too tight, well i guess its uncomfortable. Here are some snippets of information that i hope can help some others to choose a right size and not just a cool design.

I would appreciate if anyone can add or clarify any other info as i am still learning :)

1) Measure the crown of you head, widest part usually above the ears, all around. So e.g. start from the point above your eyebrown and measure with a string all around. Using the string against a measure tape, this is your exact head size. You should use this to choose the helmet size

2) After putting on the helmet for size test, try pulling the helmet to the left and right while looking straight. It should not budge too much. Also try looking up and down, this time, keep the HELMET fixed while your head moves. It also should not be able to move too much. The 2nd test of looking up and down i find is abit harder to judge because i always tend to be able to move more.

Here is a video link on a helmet size check. Hopefully it helps!

Have you guys any information to share with the others? It will be very well appreciated.

Easy. Actually you just measure roughly to gauge the size of the helmet you need.

Different helmet got different shape for different heads. So try on different brands, different models.

Do your step 2. Wear it around for 10mins to 1hr if you got time, see if you feel any hot spots, discomfort, headache etc.

If all is comfortable, well, good fit, snug and fits your budget, that's the one for you :)

Yup.

Arai is the only helmet company(that i now of), producing a few types of head shape helmet.

Round oval, intermediate oval and long oval. U definitely will find one that will fit ur head most.

Different models ie signet, rx7, quantum eg possess different type of shape.

Yes arai is definitely expensive, but u noe a lot of RND has been done behind the scene.

One more thing i would like to add is to Concentrate on the size of the head and not the face... If it is too tight on the face but comfortable on the crown, get that but change the thickness of the cheekpads.
