I always view a bike cover like an umbrella. Umbrella is waterproof unless it's pulled and stretch properly, if not, it's just a piece of cloth.

Similarly, the material of the bike cover may provides water-resistance, but ultimately, it will become a piece of normal cloth if you don't cover it properly.

True. Cant believe that there will be some who will go to extremes just to kope someone else's cover.

My first response when I discovered the missing cover: assæ´žs

Or maybe not.

Once my bike cover was stolen by some Bangladeshis. Gave up on Ah boy's cover and went to Motoworld to get a set of Oxford covers and never looked back since.

Was upstairs, bike was downstairs at the multistory carpark. Look out of the window, saw those busters pulling my cover, shouted at them and they scoot away.

Rushed downstairs, saw cover gone, busters no where to be found.

Loss = 1 bike cover, broken lock to my GIVI and a paperback street directory.

Damaged = Unused coupons torn into halves. Total, 10 of them.

Yep, so it's pretty sad. More bikes getting stolen or for joyride, namely those 2B sportsbikes, S4s and DRZs. Also, for all bikes, valuable parts.

That's why an Oxford cover with a buckle is better than none. Even maximum security such as Bike Alarm, 2 Disc Lock with Alarm, Bike cover with lock and inbuilt immobilizers doesn't deter determined thieves too.

Though better than nothing. Thinking about a GPS tracker when I upgrade to a better bike!

i agree.

people underestimate how much a cover reduces the chances of theft. they simply assume that a cover is just a piece of cloth, what can it do to stop a thief?

thats true, but put yourself in the shoes of a petty thief. when the bike is covered, the petty thief has to lift the cover to see what bike model it is or whether it has accessories for him to steal. the thing is, he knows he will look suspicious lifting up the covers of several bikes in the carpark. it is far safer for him to recce by casually walking past the bike while surreptitiously looking out for the model or accessories that he is interested in stealing. the covered bikes are likely to be left alone.

so yah, the cover cannot 100% stop theft, but it greatly reduces the chances. i myself use my cover even though my home carpark is sheltered.

It's true: it's more fun to ride a slow bike fast than to ride a fast bike slow. Admittedly, though... It is MOST fun to ride a fast bike fast!

Excellent points. Let's all stay alert to keep our vehicles safe.

My bike cover lasted just one night.

Is the price difference between the Oxford camo one and the Oxford normal one worth it?

Personally, no.

The standard one is already very good. The camo is thicker making it heavier and bulkier to carry. Even if you like the design, mine turned an ugly shade of rust brown after a few months under blazing sun. Only if somehow you want an even stronger cover and you dun mind the bulkiness, but ways the point when the standard one is already very waterproof plus lightweight.

Just one night man... one miserable night. Will be getting another one soon... But will make sure my permanent ink marker is also available to mark my territory before I even cover the bike.

Remember to tie your cover tight enough. I lost 1 cover due to strong wind blown away the cover.

Did rain, but didn't open to check after rain. Too lazy. Next day upon ride internal seem dry.

One thing, when i spray paint the cover, the paint (red) seep thru and stain on the bike. lucky i have good polisher to remove.

mmmmm though is water proof kekekeke

Another question. Those parking attendants when they cant see your RFID tag but see ur sprayed-on number on the cover. Cant see your number plate since entire bike covered. Will they be that extreme to leave you a ticket for not showing the season parking?

On related note, is it also compulsory to display your road tax disc?

Same situation. Sheltered carpark, but I cover the bike all of the time.

Plus, it's an el-cheapo generic, and dirty looking cover that smells of cat urine at the base.... no one would ever wanna steal that!

Can the Oxford cover cover over the exhaust immediately after a ride? Will it melt onto the exhaust?

Posted

Should be able to considering it's price. Even my cheap covers are able to do that.

Wait a sec, how did you managed to get cat's pee on your cover?

Mmm, not too sure about exposed exhaust. My GSR 400 with underseat exhaust can be covered almost immediately after I cease riding.

Someone told me to sprinkle pepper onto the cover to deter cats.

I just managed to cover my bike with a numbered cover, coupled with clothes pegs and securing the bottom holes properly to prevent strong winds from blowing it away. Resorted to using a disc brake lock and attaching the RFID to the lock, so that it stands out from under the bike cover for the carpark attendants to scan if necc.

Hopefully no more theft.
