My friend vanbauer had a bad crash yesterday at PG. he's now at SGH. had a broken collarbone and thumb. going for operation to put 4 screws and a metal plate on his collarbone. any eye-witnesses?? because he himself could not figure out how he fell.. it was at turn 4 around 11.20am, which is way before the 5 lap race. he said that most probably his brake just jammed. :help:

:pity: Ouch!! That hurts, boy.

Is your friend a regular at PG? How many hours have he clock at PG? I mean, how long have he been riding there?

Most crashes occurs because of human errors, either the rider himself or the others around you. And this is especially so on track days.

And newbies, because of their inexperience in pinpointing their own lack of skill or knowledge in riding, will always blame mechanical failure.

As in your friend, most probably the brakes jammed because he panicked when he realised he's not in control of the bike and unknowingly jammed the brakes. That's a rider first reaction when something about to goes wrong - jammed the brakes.

However, this is my assumption. It may not be true.

I wish your friend a speedy recovery. When someone crash, everyone loses except the bike shops.

Maybe you're right.. it was only his 2nd time at PG and his first track day. he is still quite new and being too keen in the corners i guess. he's riding an aprillia250 and his bike was quite badly damaged. he was actually flung off the bike but he couldn't tell whether he tank slapped or high sided. he only remembered his brakes jammed.. sigh.. let's all pray for a speedy recovery for him and hope this doesn't affect his enthusiasm on track in the future... but if there were anyone who was behind him and witnessed his crash, can share it with us. thanx...

Oh ok.. That was your friend... I heard he was pretty fast on the track..

The crash happened just before i saw him lying on the gravel.. I stopped coz i thot it was one of my own friends! But luckily the marshals were already there so i went off.

I hope he recovers... The thing is he crashed after turn 4... not at turn 4.. maybe his exit from the cover was too fast?

Hmmm.. crashed After turn 4?? that doesn't make sense.. he told me his brakes jammed.. normally u brake b4 entry.. not during exit.. or maybe his entry speed was too fast that he was braking even while exiting?? sigh.. that's y he himself doesn't understand the mechanics of how he crashed... and yup he is pretty fast on track.. he actually beat my timing on his first outing at PG.. but im a newbie myself.. hehe.. k thanks sub-zero for the info..

Hmm.. I suppose what happened could be he couldnt brake, but managed to clear the turn too wide and came far too out and crashed after the turn...

I hope he recovers well!

Now I know why he crashed. He had only 2 sessions at the track and people have been commenting and hearing he's a fast rider. And the rider probably have heard those comments himself.

When we are good at the track and riders at the pit are commenting how fast you are, "wah you go in the corner very fast', "I never see you. Suddenly you behind me" and all these flattering comments, now, that's a recipe for disaster.

Take your time to know the track especially the Johor Circuit. It's one of the most challenging in the world.

That's possible.. but he said his lining was correct.. only his brakes jammed and caused him to flung off the bike during the turn.. aniwae have anyone ever experienced that b4?? and if i'm not wrong, he's using brembo brakes.. Is that brake capable of causing ur caliper to jam with e brake disc at high temperature due to excessive braking?? care to share so that me and others can learn as well...

Btw kudos to all those who participated in the 5-lap races yesterday, especially the cubs and other small bikes who were game for it.

The Super4 had very good pickup, where did that come from?

12 years ago, I highsided at Turn 2, got to the old Tan Tock Seng for ribs and chest injuries, and a total loss for my bike. I thought I'm going to die when the bike tossed me at such high speed.

I stayed away from PG for 15 mths. And I blame the 'front jammed brake' theory. Many years later, I came to the conclusion that I have probably jammed the brakes myself when the bike drifts out of Turn 2 heading to the gravels.
