Hi guys,

A first time biker looking for the best used cruiser bike in 2b. All my research now seems to be pointing at TA Phantom 150/200. Please enlighten me on other options or help me decide on TA Phantom 200 (I have a preference for 200). My budget is around 3k. Thanks in advance

im riding ta200 at the moment, it's my first bike. no issues with it, and i personally find it the best 2b out there. 2k can get u a reasonable ta200, haven seen ta200 being sold beyond 3k before.

Get an expiring ta200 and renew its coe. Should fit your budget. Do consider you insurance for a p plate ranges from 600-800.

I would suggest a ta200. Even with repairs it wont cost you a hand and a leg.

March 2012 - August 2013 = Suzuki Impulse 400

It all depends. Are you looking to feel like those Harley riders?? Then Phantom wouldnt make you feel so. Its quite smallish and the bars even though can modify but not so satisfying. on the other hand, daelim daystar, that is really something. spare parts not so difficult. only setback, the rear brakes, uses drum brake so becareful in the rain. 17 litre tanks at almost 40km per litre. WOOWOWOWOOW. I know 1 uncle who went from here to Air Hitam without topping up. anyway without knowing who you really are (size , skill, mindset and preference) , this question is really up to you.

If safety is your primary concern, disc brake should be your primary tool for bike brakes. Go for TA200 or Shadow when you have 2A

TA200 can outperform fuel consumptions of other cruisers at 43km/litre if you work hard at making your bike tip top condition with optimized usage at 80-90km/h. It's only 12 litres, 9litres to hit reserve. I easily hit 360km before hitting reserve with SPC 92.

I would love to ride the Harleys but need to wait till am eligible to upgrade to 2A and 2. I am a bit sceptical about Daelim due to drum brake issue and also they seem to be a bit hard to find in the used bike market.

After riding for so many years, even now riding a Fazer 1000, I still think that Phantom is the best bike I have ridden. Cos it really have very little problem and super cheap in Petrol and servicing. However I think it is discontinued...not sure also.

TA200 is simple and cheap to maintain and an easy ride for a first timer

just watch that rear brake and weight distribution,

Grounded... :/

Yeah! The rear brake after a while will jam one. But small problem lah.

small matter until you lock the brakes, due to the peg position and the slightly heavier rear weight distribution.

I've skidded on my old TA 200 before... and it was not that fun

other than that and remembering to use a little more front braking

she's a good ride :)

Yeah, in all respect, the Phantom TA200 makes a pretty darn good 1st bike.

When I first got my licence, I'm thinking of getting a Sports bike such as SP or KRR or RS125. Then again, the smoke, the maintenance and everything about those bike turns me off. So, reluctantly, I went with the bike which they called it, the "Ah Pek" bike.

Heh, but after seeing it during collection, whatever negative comments about the TA200 instantly vanished! Oh, did I mentioned that I paid for the bike without even seeing it when I went down to the motorshop? Was really stupid then but I gotten lucky.

This is the Phantom which I got.

Gave me no issues at all, it was smooth, very ride-able. Comfortable even when travelling up to Malaysia, and able to maintain at about 120km/h with no issues, other than vibrations. Even when the bike were to run on mineral oil, there's no issue too (due to my own stupidity in paying $50 for a bottle of mineral oil).

All in all, it's cheap, it's good and gave me great fuel economy. Just remember to switch to reserve when the bike begins to jerk about or if you are riding the new model, do watch out for the low fuel indicator.

I'm a Tutor! Proud to be one!

If you are lucky, you may be able to find a Honda Shadow 125. Way better looking than Phantom but it lacks power. That was my very first bike.
