a electrical retail shop with RP on display is motor oil (S$11/btl, for car use).

ask for Max-Cycle 20w-50, i believed is S$17 per bottle.

 

just bring oil to any bike shop, most bike shop will charge $5 or more for oil change.

don't be mistaken by the dark oil color, original color is dark purple.

most mechanic say dark/black is bad oil but on the contrary becoz of detergent property which it has the ability to clean dirt/contamination to be trap by oil filter. it is difference from sludge which is gluey/sticky stuff can block oil passage.

Trying out Silkolene 15W50 now. Switched over from Maxima 10W60.

 

The attractive colour of the EO (RED!) further confirmed my choice in switching.

 

Just wondering if it can last 10,000km as my service interval is at this mark

anyway, you are riding an expensive top of the line bike touring bike. if i had your bike and did city riding in SG, i'd change my engine oil at the 7k mark the most regardless of oil brand.

 

engine oil only cost a small amount. 4x23bux. depending on how fast you clock 10k plays another part as well.

 

since you switched over from maxima, how was the maxima oil performance? did it meet your criteria to last 10k ?

 

im quite sure that the Silkolene 15w50 will perform as required.

Of course colour is not deciding factor but it sort of adds on as a positive factor. Most important of all, its about the performance of the EO.

 

So far still satisfied with the EO for local riding. It's lighter on the throttle.

Yet to try it out on the NSH or go for some really long long trips with this EO. Gotta put Silkolene to the test

the different between them r additives.

bikes oil generally have anti-wear ingredients.

motor (car) oil replacing anti-wear agent with anti-frictional.

do a search in the web.

in fact, this subject has been discussed here.

always use oil with API SG or SH n JASO MA standard.

any higher than API SH anti-wear agents r replaced by anti-frictional.

reason is anti-wear agent will damage catalyst convertor in cars.

u have mistook me for someone else.

i rode many sort of bikes, currently downgraded to 2b.

no need speed nor power, just passionately luv riding.

 

typical oil grade for engine type in sillypore climate:

10w-40 = water-cool engine

20w-50 = air-cool engine

car EO contains anti-frictional modifiers/additives as u said..

most bikes are wet-clutch, meaning the clutch plates are bath in the EO as well.. wif the anti-friction additives, the EO can cause clutch slippage in bikes.. car can use e additives cos their clutch plates are bath in transmission oil.. from a seperate oil sump..

so unless u r riding a dry clutch (eg, PGM) bike.. u shld not use car EO..

budden if u use PGM i tink u will always use racing EO like Motul 300V alr..

On top of the clutch issue, for most engine oils developed for cars, they have in mind a car engine which is probably going to be in the 2~3000rpms range for most of the time.

 

Compare this to most bikes' engines, they usually operate at much higher revs, even if they are just cruising normally.
