Thanks pap89. ya... it being manufacture in Indo does put me off. but if it is the older version of excel is it still as good? somehow I'm more drawn to the PX. but when Excel compare to an '83 PX200 is PX better? and got comment from other people that 3k is too ex for an Excel too..

Hi Kenneth,

PX 200 is a drinker. Higher consumption than a PX or an Excel. No diff if you ask me which is better. Don't be put off by Made in Indo tag. They are no bad at all. Nowadays, bike are made in places like India, Thailand or Indonesia, even though the brand is Japanese or Italian. There are Italian and Japanese 'lemons' too, if you get what I mean.

The 3K Vespa looks good. Most bike do when you see them in jpegs. But you have to see the paintwork and accessories in person. Are there any scratches, are the chrome parts rusted beyond re-polishing? etc. The market value for Excel with brand new paint job, brand new accessories including tires should be about 3K to 3.5 K with 1 year or less COE. Remember, I am talking about everything brand new, except the engine off course. You have to make your call.

Ya... there are some scratches on the paint and some rust on the chrome parts. only the rear bracket and the wheel is added in. the backrest and basket is not included. I also notice some cracks at the just behind the nose of the vespa. is that normal? or is the vespa breaking apart?

Just as I expect. Some accessories are worn out and paint work not perfect. I won't put 3k on this. 2k is a more realistic price. I am currently restoring a Excel. I order my parts online and changing everything, seats, mirror, handle bars, handle bars, side panel etc.. Probably cost me 3.5k. It will be a full mod to a VBB model. I believe in sharing info. You can PM me to find out more.

This 'fuel pump' problem still ongoing?

since 2010?

actually not just this model was having the fuel problem. those running fuel injection are also facing such issue.

try using a synthetic 2t. doesnt have to be fully synthetic, semi synthetic would be enough. a bottle cost arnd 10-15$ at any vespa shop or motorbike shop. reason being is that though mineral or non synthetic 2t would do the job, a synthetic (jaso fc/fd rated ones) would also protect your engine. i use mobil extra 2t cos it may cost a little more but for helps protect my engine parts.

Hi, actually, after owning my own vespa, i realised that is cheaper to do an already done up one, or get an original. Somehow doing it up will not look original.

Do go to the Singapore Vespa Club forum to take a look

I own a stock LX150. Going at 95kmh is still fairly comfortable in my opinion. any faster, the engine doesn't sound good. if you want something faster, maybe you can look for the extinct GT200

Hi,

I think the look of an Excel, and a PX150 is really quite different. Personally, I would much prefer the PX150's especially because of the 'hump' behind as compared to the straight drop at the back of an excel. look at the two side by side and you will understand.

To buy a PX, and then modify to look like the Sprint or Super's will cost more than a thousand for it to look good, but it will never be the 'real thing'. and selling it later would be at a loss. There are lots of PX's that have been modified out there going for decent prices.

My wife rides a vespa too, and she is slightly taller than you only. she is able to handle the vespa without any problem, she even rode a GT200 once without much problem.

If you are getting a classic vespa, you can get a flatter seat. if you are getting a modern vespa, a LX150 or Vespa S, you can bring the seat down to those upholstery shops and get them to trim it for you. good luck for your TP!

i vote PX.

Marthufarker:

1) a PX should be able to handle, but going uphill may be a problem

2) average speed is 90 for me. comfortable cruising speed.

3) I think the vespa is easy to control once you get used to the hand gears and the lack of front brakes

Never doubt PX is the pinnacle of heritage coolness and its quite a breeze to maintain (it require some diy skillz though)

But i felt that PX is not an easy scoot to ride in traffic these days, especially for newbie theyj bro.

I would go for the auto models like GT or LX or an ET8.

I would go for PX as a leisure number, for sundays to ECP and around town, or some late night cruise.

But again, its just my opinion. hehe

hi i'm only 1.53, so i understand your worries. so i thought i'd like to share with you that i own and havev ridden my vespa px 200 for the last almost 2 years! true its a bit high, and i can only touch the floor with one foot on tip toe and the other is dangling mid air, but trust me, you'd get the hang of it pretty quick. but in addition to getting the lowest swat, i had to get tong aik to lower my suspensions before the one foot could even touch the ground. so yes its possible! dont give up!! =)

p.s. i'm selling my px200 if anyone's interested, text 9623 9730 (you could also text if you'd like to know more about your height concerns regarding riding a vespa too, would be happy to share my experience!)

*Closed* thanks for the info

Hi all, I'll be acquiring a Vespa gt200 shortly. It's around 7 years old and has been neglected & abused for a period of time. My questions are

1. Any recommended places to restore/service?

2. In a worst case scenario, how much $$ would it set me back by?

Totally clueless atm, appreciate all the inputs.

Thanks in advance!
