But they don't. ;)

Here's another perspective. Cyclist are another, more extreme, more irritating version of SOME motorcyclists.

You know? Some bikers...

- they complain about being tailgated on lane 1 (but dunno how to use brains and move to lane 2 when clear),

- complain about cars not giving them space to lanesplit, but temselves lanesplit like fuccking c0cksters.

- complain that car drivers are dangerous, but themselves lanesplit through traffic like fighter pilots

hahahh i see what u did there....

and do you know whats more irriating than hobbyist cyclists and cocksters bikers ? Motorised bicycles.

These maniacs think they are bikers because they wear helmet, can accelerate to 40kph without breaking a sweat and lane spilt like cockster bikers with total disregard of traffic rules like hobbyist cyclists. They can do all these with pillion. o_O

I put electric bicycle riders in the same category as foreign cyclists. ;)

That is correct. U only need to worry abt the cocksters. Because the good ones will take care of themselves and stay out of yr way.

Motor vehicles are allowed to use the road as we are licensed, we went through structured lessons at legalised driving schools.

When riders or drivers screw up, we are covered by insurance.

When we try to be a joker on the road, we are penalised by $$$ and demerit points.

Cyclists?

How many times have you stopped to avoid the joker who just ride across the road when it is red man?

And how many times have you saw cyclist getting down and pushing their bicycles across?

We are also someone's else son, daughter, husband...etc

Does riding a bicycle somehow entitle you to another status?

All share a responsibility to drive/ ride / cycle on the road.

But if it is peak rush hour, perhaps its not such a great idea to ride a bicycle with the other 3 lanes jammed packed with vehicles.

I rest my case.

Cyclists cannot demand for equal right on the road simply because they do not have the speed to regulate with the traffic flow. Can you imagine a cyclist hogging Lane 1 ?

Then there is also an issue on compensation because cyclists are not required by law to have insurance cover.

I have no problem giving cyclists their 1.5m margin if they ride in a single file, keep to the extreme left lane, and compile with traffic rules.

The current situation with these hobbyist cyclists is that they cycle in big group, often abeast of each other and taking up the entire lane. When they do stop at traffic lights, they occupy the entire lane 1, 2 ,3. When the Green light comes on, you can see some of them having problems clipping their shoes onto their pedals, and holding up the traffic. Most of them don't even bother to stop, especially when turning left at the junction, and not giving way to pedestrains at crossings.

If cyclists want respect, then they must first respect other road users.

:)

Honestly speaking, I don't know what are the rights of a cyclist as well, when they take up a whole lane, do they have the right of way ? Or do they assume they have the right of way because they are cyclists. They need to realise the same dangers and reduce the risks of getting into accidents.

Its the same as riding in heavy traffic during traffic hour, or riding after 10 pm. Or riding at Orchard Road or at Mandai Road. Maybe Before the talk of the lane comes, maybe they should conclude on whether a cyclists has their own protocol when cycling on the road.

Haha I think those electric bicycles are not allowed on the road, they are only allowed to ride within a estate. So what they are doing is illegal I think.

Man, if I were the biker I would be pissed, want to ask the person to pay for the repairs or injury also hard. Especially if the cyclist choose to say its not his fault.

Actually, all these cycling thing are trend, probably brought about due to some craze. Very soon, those pampered lots will decide to drive in their comfy cars.

I can't help wonder if there is a bicycle lane, are they willing to cycle with the foreign cyclists?

Electric bikes can go anywhere except on expressways. They are also legally allowed on pavement in somehdb estates so they have more rights than licenced cars and motorbikes.

A cyclist is like someone riding a mini bike on the road. Slow, no power and a hazard. Anyway so few cyclist have died, why is it a bother?
Perhaps most of these cyclists are drivers? Seen these cyclists with their bicycles on the bicycle racks on their cars on weekends at Changi Coast. They drive there and parked their cars. Then get on their bicycles and cycle on the roads and expect to be given way most of the time and then eat at Changi Village. Its their routine.

Commuting by bike may start as a practical solution to a daily necessity but it can become one of the most enjoyable elements of your working routine.
