You can probably decrease your budget for jacket, increase your budget for gloves and take a look at Dainese. Dainese mesh jackets are around the 500$ range.

Class 2B - 27th Feb 2013

Yamaha R15v2 - 2nd Mar 2013

Class 2A - 6th Jun 2014

Get a simple mesh from RS Taichi. Look at the Intention Mesh Jacket @ Motoworld, under $200. :) Gloves? Find some with carbon fibre or plastic moulded knuckle protection, Fox Bomber under $50 i think, or you could get Taichi or Komine gloves can get for below $100. :)

yeah, looks soft, but for the price ok lah. Some people don't like those hard parts on the gloves also. But IMO, most I've tried with knuckle protectors, mostly felt very comfortable. I'd rather get those than the full soft glove.

Don't bother getting the Tanked gloves. Useless cos they have no soft padding or hard protection. Good for bicycles only.

AMA selling Fox Bomber for $48 before discount. If u want soft padding ones can just get Bell gloves from LAB or Regina under $18.

Jackets are bit tricky cos it depends on where and when u wana wear. For daily wear in Sillypore, only go for mesh ones with the necessary paddings/armours. Komine at Motorworld offers quite a good range. Alpinestar can get from Regina and Rev'it from Chiap Lee. Dainese ex but if the news of a promo of under $200 is true then it's worth viewing although I reckon it's the lower range of jackets.

Goretex also a little hot I think. Mesh is good, really good. I have a taichi mesh, vents like woo. When you ride with it on u still can feel the wind coming at you, cool air. Don't really feel hot when waiting in traffic either.

Ic .. ThumbS Up...

okie...think will give it a try..

how abt waterproof wise?..

usually mesh got some water cover or something right?..

just wear rain coat over it?....

Some have water proof liner, but just get rain coat and wear over :) Problem solved. Waterproof liner will be under the mesh, so if you wear it then you won't really get as much ventilation i guess...

To illustrate your point exactly... This evening I was on my way home with my Komine mesh when it suddenly rained. Stopped underneath the bridge, pull out my raincoat and wore over my mesh jacket. Chop chop continue on within 3 mins.

If u depend on inner liner for the mesh jacket as rain protection, u have to take off ur jacket, zip the inner liner into the jacket inner side, then wear the jacket. Very troublesome. And, even when ur body sort of stays dry, your entire mesh jacket will trap some water between the mesh and the inner liner and makes keeping the jacket very troublesome. Not to mention that u'll have to dry your mesh jacket before next use.

As for gloves, frankly nobody uses leather gloves unless for trackdays. Mesh or textile gloves is the way to go. Padding on the palm and additional layer at the knuckles are basic. I also keep a pair of RS Taichi waterproof gloves on my box for rainy days. And also another point of leather gloves is that u'll never be able to wash them and the stench from the gloves is unbearable. And it makes your hands stink too.

Being practical is the way to go here in Sillypore. Go for cool (temperature) and not only for cool (looks).

Exactly! But the leather I saw was perforated and is quite the thin type, but on the palm is slightly thicker. About the washing, I'm not sure cuz I never really own leather leather products myself (except saf boots). It could be synthetic leather, which I think should be able to wash, easier than leather. But for commuting and touring it all comes down to comfort as a priority over fanciful stuff... All that extra safety features like leather etc, unless you gonna be 'racing' on road or track, then it would come in handy. Textile with some thickness/padding at key points is enough. :D

Waterproof gloves is good, never really owned one too, always had to dry my gloves if caught in rain. 2 pairs for me, 1 for backup ^^

Nobody cares about your look in SG, from what I observe, unless you ride big bike. Like how I think the biker stereotype only applies to the smaller bike riders.

Rs taichi jackets from motoworld or revit from some shop in jalan besar. Can't remember the name. Gloves can also get from the same shops or alpine stars from LAB. I have 2 pairs, one for rainy day and another one.
