the shell station after the city square shopping centre.

I was waiting for my friend in the petrol station, when he ran out of petrol ard 200 metres away from the petrol station. So he was pushing his bike when suddenly 2 chinese guys came out of nowhere and tried to rob him at knife-point. Took all his cash and his HP.

I only know of this when he reached the station, and i asked him how come he push for so long.. then he told me what happened.

This is a TRUE incident, which happened on me. Not a story i heard.

I'm sure you guys have heard of this question many times...

I want to know, cruising and activating VTEC. Does it consume more fuel? Or help in fuel economy over the distance?

Why am i asking this, is because all the while I thought opening to 4 valve would mean double the fuel usage... or almost there... but something my friend told me made me want to ask this question...

I just bought my S4 Spec 3. A friend of mine saw it and asked it there was any VTEC... I said "yes..." and he told me his story.

My friend was looking for a honda, the salesman told him, "If you don't plan to go fast, don't get a car with VTEC". My friend travels to m'sia often and travels down the highway. So he purchased the car with a VTEC engine.

He told me that when he travels fast, he saves fuel compared to his previous car.

I asked him how is that possible if VTEC consumes more fuel. He told me that the valves open which results in smoother distribution of the fuel. The engine moves faster and smoother compared to normal usage.

So I just wanna know if it consumes less fuel~ :thumb:

Thanks for reading!

Vtec sytem in Super 4 works in this way. When Vtec is not open, only 2 valve per cylinder will be open = total 8 valves open, which means less power but save petrol. But when Vtec is open, the other 2 idling valve per cyclinder will open, which means total of 16 valve open, which will give more power but higher fuel consumption. For my bike, I can get ard 20km ~ 22km per 1L of V-power, and I on Vtec most of the time. By the way I'm riding a spec II. For Super 4 Vtec, even if you on ur vtec all the way but maintain at ard 110km/hr and below, you still can get a good fuel comsumption. Hope this help.

So the thing is not whether VTEC consumes more fuel, rather is whether the rider is consistent with his throttle?

hmmm... i believe the VTEC on a car and the one on a cb400 is different?

didnt know that the VTEC on a cb400 has got 3 stages and etc...??

er... or does it?

er... meaning the VTEC for car and CB400 is the same?

No, Vtec for car and Vtec for bike is different. Yes, Vtec for car comes in 3 stages (which I'm not so sure how exactly it works). But for bike, it just a simple opening of the idling 2 valves per cyclinder as I've explained earlier.

Vtec for SOHC engine have 3 stages whereby increase power a little

But vtec for DOHC engine like the ones used in SIR and Type R consist of high speed cams that change over about 5000rpm and more lift more air more fuel = more power. That why they can 50% more power than similar sizes engines.

only EK VTi has the 3 stage vtec~

which is lean mode under 3k, normal mode til 5k+, than its vtec~

EG VTi and EK SiR are using 2 stage vtec... which kicks in @ 5800...

there is a change to higher cams, than u hear the loud switchover to vtec mode... PPPAAAAAAARRRRRRRRR... :lovestruck:

YES SiR!

2 kind of vtec one is playing with the numbers of opened valves that increase low and mid range torque with a bit of top end power.

Whereby VTEC using high speed cam that change over are really good at unleashing power at high rpm.

So S4 vtec belong to more or less the first kind that increase a bit of torque and power in low and mid range. Top end still same as many 400cc.

So does it mean that fuel economy applies to his car only and not for the bike?
