I mean the annual depreciation.. :D Sorry...

Yes, going for lessons are challenging and at the same time sacrifice... my weekends are all spent on riding... and preparing for it.. something to look forward each weekend at the same time, quite apprehensive as the test dates approach nearer. :)

Gear changing.. cos previously my leg didnt have strength to kick the gear up.. n oso i cant bend my knees that fast else will hurt.. im actually looking at a honda super cub.. nego with a seller at a good price n had 6yrs coe left.. my msx is 3 yrs left.. i will extend the msx's coe cos it comes with a yoshi pipe n it sounds damn nice.. will need to see hows the recovery for my leg 1st to decide if i shld get a 2a..

isn't a super cub a semi auto? still need left foot to change gear.

my KL friend rode his super cub to south vietnam in 2019. He said it was nice and relaxed, and easy to repair if any issue along the way LOL. At home he has 5 big bikes (moto guzzi, 1250GS, triumph etc) but deliberately chose the kupchai for this trip.

after looking at bike prices in the region, i can't bear to buy one here, especially since i don't really intend to ride in SG. I may need one for practice in the event i decide to take 2A.

Sg price for any motor vehicle is all at retarded price.. cannot compare at all.. all becos gov wans to earn money too.

Semi auto but all u need to do is step down.. it goes in rotate de ma.. from 4 step can go to N n go gear 1 again.. haiz.. i cant bear to part with my msx yet.. haha

i'm not too familiar with the gearbox - i thought is just auto clutch. So there's no need to upshift? it'll just upshift on it's own based on the rpm and speed?

motorbike price here is just bad news for the people that really need it for work/transport.

nope.. u still have to step on the clutch pedal. it doesnt have the clutch lever so it will nv stall.. then it goes N -> 1 -> 2 -> 3 -> 4 then from 4 will loop back to 1.. u can downshift but since u can stop in gear 4, most ppl will just stop then kick into N when stopping

Yea, can't believe how much the depreciation is ... in fact... I did some calculations.. have a spreadsheet ready.. to keep a reality check and to prevent temptation.

For the lesson 5.02. Will just try my best.. . and as always... share the experience here. :)

Agree, especially if you drive or really need a bike. I would like to have one if the prices taper down much more! Yes, if you compare the prices against the region... our bike prices are really overpriced.. but the burden is placed on the riders who need their bikes; even if they want a R15!

just wondering if you had checked the insurance costs (premium and excess)? for say a p-plate 2B with a male non-spring chicken rider 😆

i tried to get online quotes but those i checked don't accept p-plater. Need to check with a traditional insurance company.

for reference, when i rented the Duke200, the 3rd pty insurance excess for a p-plater was SGD4500 and no cover in Msia 😅

I MR years ago... LOL...

Very right... Singapore nia....

... but now might have to bring ride into the body shop, side got grazed by another car when wife was driving, good reason not to have my "valet" send back ride when I go "fuel" myself expensive even if claiming third party- best meet before I send...

Wow... I will try to get 2A once I can... but... I'm humbly trying for the most basic first - slaps own face to wake up

Is there tribe-bike? LOL

Well said! I've actually done the comparison... there is so little difference between 2B and 2A bikes... I think the latter's price is driven up by demand of real riders needing transport. That's my 2 rubles... :D

Missed replying all of you here in the journey as going towards the 2B.... work was really busy and at the same time... lots of things to handle beyond the grind of work....

... it got so busy outside the usual work that couldn't really post other than have a glance at the thread here...

got TribeBike but they don't rent to P-plater. I check liao 🤣

yeah price gap for 2B and 2A isn't that much. Makes me think getting 2B bike is really low on the value scale.

depending on the type of bike and how much the bike cost? So getting a older bike thats pretty cheap will be alot cheaper... Say you get a CB150... 8 years old... your insurance will prob be about $500-800? I'm just guessing hahaa...

Very true... but i think the main difference if you get a 400cc class bike will be you can run away from those crazy truck driver that loves to terrorize P plates or just smaller bikes... Most 2B bike top speed is about 110km... can't outrun those crazy trucks when its empty. There were several occasions when simply ride up and show that i'm recording their reckless bike pursuit.. then they stop. Strange hor people stop doing evil when they realized there's consequence waiting for them because its on video.

careful when you ride... alot of frustrated people venting their frustration on the road nowadays.

5.02 (and more.. read to the end)

The clouds were a little dark in the east as the time drew near for lessons to begin. In fact, in poured for about 20 minutes or so when I took a shower (yes, it can be ironic to take a shower before getting sweaty and sometimes wet when it pours before a lesson). Got ready and then made sure all the gear was ready before making the weekly (where possible) trip to BBDC.

Reached BBDC at 3:05PM and waited for the lessons to begin. Today, there seemed to be a shortage of bikes and it almost seemed that a student and myself were stranded without a bike. However, thanks to the instructor, we managed to find a bike and it was fine.

The lesson started with the warm up laps where students would begin from the start-point and the go towards a "right" where the slope began, then towards the figure 8 and crank course, plank and the slalom and then the e-brake ending the course.

All seemed well except when going to the plank... went off the first round... then went off the second practice round. The instructor told us to go for one more practice round before returning for a briefing. The last practice round, all seemed ok.

During the mid-lesson brief, we were told that we were going out to be assessed if we could advance to 6.01. I think all students were nervous and we were told to get on our bikes.

When we were out, did the course and reached the plank. Just took a tip from a fellow student (the guy whom I pillion last week and vice-versa) and went slower than my 2 previous attempts and managed to clear fine. At the end of the assessment; we were told to go to the end point and wait for the results.

The instructor disappeared for a while and we were just thinking of if we would advance or not.

In the end, the class was briefed at the circuit diagram board and yours truly got tagged for not checking the blind spot for some areas as well as slightly sliding back when doing the slope. Fourteen points in all.

In the end, fortunate to get the slip that said that 6.01 would be in sight. :)

Part 2!

It was 4:55pm when I got the text from @shiba2b, where he was at the MSCP coffee shop with the famous Hokkien Mee. I responded at about 5:05pm or so as I just managed to get out of the premises. Walked over to the MSCP to strip off the sleeves and to put the helmet in the boot. Then went to meet Shiba2b in person.

Very nice friendly guy and we spoke much about bikes and travels in general. it's really nice to meet someone and put a face to a nick / handle that we read on the forums. I was sharing with Shiba2b on the benefit of others' and his experience which benefits n00bs like myself.
Realized that he has experience with cars as well and truly an avid adventurer. Very brave and interesting fellow!

Next time, it would be nice to expand to meet the rest of the folks in this thread as the meeting with Shiba2b had to be cut short by text to say "dinner is ready and come home"! :D

@shiba2b, was really nice to meet you and I think that the rest of the people in this thread / forum would like to meet you too. I'm sorry you had to endure the "post-lesson" condition of meeting me, aka sweaty student from BBDC... :D

Thanks for reading and will be trying to do the RCs before going for the 6.01 as defensive theory needs to be cleared first before PDL is applied. Will update, and it would be likely be "RC" or Revision Class.

Congrats on clearing 5.02 and progressing to road sessions. i'm sure you'll soon be booking 8.01 and TP test 😊

i usually sweat so much during the lessons that i change to a new t-shirt after class! For riding class, i wear those thin long-sleeved running t-shirts from Decathlon. Good SPF protection from the sun, quick dry and cooling too. But practically zero protection if i should fall. That's where the arm guards/riding jacket come into play.

It was great to meet up and chat abt biking and travels. It makes being in SG a bit less boring 😆

Have fun with the RCs. I think RC stands for Revision, Circuit. You'll see some trainees wearing RV tags. That's RC equivalent for 2A/2. There's also RR - Revision, Road. I can't recall if there's a different tag for RR. I only did one RR. I cheated by using my own vehicle to practice the road test route on my own 🤣

Thanks for all the sharing of advice and gear! Like your helmets. You are really an adventurous soul and a bike truly suits you; that is enhances your very fast ride you already own.
*Should have brought a spare t-shirt!

I intend to do as many RCs as I can, even if it takes leave from work as it's important to be "current" and to always remember what to do...

The RCs are likely in the weekdays now.

For the road.. yes, will go and use the ride for directions, and to be familiar.. but of course will go for RR lessons... need them for yours truly.. :D

Really great to have a catch up again! Thanks so much for coming down to the vicinity of BBDC! :)

I MR years ago... LOL...

Is there tribe-bike? LOL

Well said! I've actually done the comparison... there is so little difference between 2B and 2A bikes... I think the latter's price is driven up by demand of real riders needing transport. That's my 2 rubles... :D

Missed replying all of you here in the journey as going towards the 2B.... work was really busy and at the same time... lots of things to handle beyond the grind of work....

... it got so busy outside the usual work that couldn't really post other than have a glance at the thread here...

haha.. I'm supposed to MR just before covid strike..

then all reservice stop..so no choice lor..

Yes.. definitely..

Yup.. overall coe might be caused by people who wanted to buy bike for delivery services. I also need transport.. but too used to 2 stroke power vs the standard 2B bikes now.. so my mechanic say dun waste time to try diff 2B.. just go 2A.. at least can get equal power.. In the end.. I scold them cuz.. it's not even equal... slightly slower in pick up.. but top end can reach faster..

my 2B reach 100 - about 8-10s.. from 120 onwards - need to slowly drag..

my 2A reach 100 - about 12-15s... haven't test limit since I still wan my license.. hahaha... but confirm no need to drag..

got TribeBike but they don't rent to P-plater. I check liao 🤣

yeah price gap for 2B and 2A isn't that much. Makes me think getting 2B bike is really low on the value scale.

Yeah..  that's what I recall.. P plate cannot rent..

Yes.. Unless you need a bike urgently.. wait for 1 year before getting your 2A license.. then one shot out 2A lor.. just remember to ride slowly.. 😛

I forgot wats mine.. but anyway, theres still a little fear riding.. n i passed by the road where my accident happened in car.. mixed feelings..

Yes.. that's common.. I had nightmares for at least 3 months.. even till date, so many years has pass.. I dun squeeze inbetween cars while turning or tight spaces anymore.. every time there's a bike behind me.. I'll just give way for them to go pass.. :) Old ler.. judgement might not be that accurate and dun wan to risk anymore..
