A manual Lancer is a good buy.

If i got the spare cash, I'll go for the fit Manual. 1.5 litre V-tec 110bhp would make the Fit a zippy little car.

 

Best value for $ would be the lancer. Big,spacious,made in japan and it's a saloon. It'll look best if modded properly, aka Lancer 1.8 turbo style. Not those lancerlutions with ugly buldging bodykits.
