How does the deal actually work when private seller & buyer negotiates a deal ?

 

Integrity is very important !

first of all , buyer will meet seller to view bike.

then, they will negotiate.

Lets say in the advertisement, seller post sale for $2500

How many buyers out there actually will "offer" $2500 or how many will bargain?

 

Is the price the actual price seller willing to sell or lower?

Degree of negotiation ?

 

And of after viewing, how many actually offer on the spot. Let say after viewing & test bike, i straight away offer maybe $2300..... how many of you do that or is it " ok i get back to you after i consider ?"

 

And integrity, lets say immediately after offer $2300 , seller say DEAL !..Few hours later somebody offers $2400 ............integrity & principles... what will you do?

 

Another thing...after verbal agreement on deal , is it the seller's responsibility to ensure bike condition as tied to the condition shown to buyer during bike view? YES of course ! But if touch wood , if bike is "XXXXXX" ... then how ?

Once you reach a verbal agreement with the seller, put all the terms in writing and both sign. You'll probably need to put a deposit as well. No misunderstanding then.

All my bikes were sold to private owners.

 

This is what I do.

 

Advertise for a price that is reasonable.

Advise buyer if any area is known to be faulty and require repair.

Price should be reflective accordingly.

 

Negotiation of price is simply a matter of "supply and demand" principles. Basically which party wants it more badly. to Sell or to Buy?

 

If buyer meets price and puts deposit, bike is no longer available for viewing or bidding. Talk is cheap. No deposit no deal sealed. If not, continue to put for sale until this is done.

 

Fixed a reasonable date to get documentation done and for balance of money to be paid. Come to an agreement that the bike should not exceed certain mileage on the odometer before handover. Also fixed a deadline for transaction to be completed otherwise void.

 

Usually once i sell the bike, i stop riding it immediately, even though transaction not complete.

 

I give personal guarantee on the bikes i sell and relate the truth to the next owner so there is no misunderstanding. It's best to be honest to the buyer. Money is not worth more than integrity.

For HAndover of bike, I use a simple agreement stating that the bike is sold by whom to whom on what date and time is the physical handover and for how much.

 

IF you cant trust the buyer, DONT SELL.

If you cant trust the seller, DONT BUY.

the price basically reflects how much seller want to let go and how much buyer want the bike ....

 

I dun believe in making decisions on the spot. After the view, i will sit in the spot to think through. Then call back if I want the bike. I dun want to listen to c***-n-bull story then agree .. later regret too late liao .. same for both parties....think carefully before committing ... unless price attractive and it is what u really want then dun wait liao ...

many pple talk talk talk, say confirm this confirm that, talk until got dragon got phoenix appear, but 'SUDDENLY' at the last minute got some problem have to back out. i kena many times liao......

selling bikes are a headache sometimes....

 

Example : my fren got a KR asking abt 2k

 

He told me he got problem selling also...cos he bike fully paid & noboby able to fork out the sum to buy his bike !

 

Another thing i experienced myself when i recently sold of my bike.

 

Many people come to view ...is like they never see before the bike like tat..

 

more like see for fun..... then ask for "best price".... AFTER THAT..NO SOUND NO NOTHING ....WASTING MY TIME

 

ELSE i gotten SMS LIKE THIS BEFORE, I DON"T KNOW IF its sound RIDICULOUS TO U GUYS

 

SMS : " CAN SELL YOUR BIKE FOR $500 ? IF CAN, I COME NOW AND PAY CASH!

Actually not very true.

 

I had no problems in sellin my Class 2 bikes in full cash.

 

$10.5k Steed, $12k Mag750 , $9.5k PC800, $4.5kZZR11, $6.7k ZX9R

 

All full cash sales.

MR A - OFFERS $5000 but need to source for loan,gurantor etc etc or borrow etc ......

 

MR B - OFFERS $4500 ( cash payment deal )

My fren's HAYABUSA had an outstanding loan amount of abt 17K

 

WELL he was lucky, managed to find a buyer.............

 

BUYER FULL CASH the bike from the bike shop !

 

HOW OFTEN can you meet and close this kind of deal !

Usually i'd go for the highest bidder(provided the price offered meets my min price) but i also look at the buyer. I don't always sell to the highest bidder but rather the buyer whom i think will continue to take good care of the bike.

 

Thats y i usually don't give the buyer an answer on the spot. I also let other buyers view the bike first before making a decision.

 

During viewing, i will inform the buyer of all the things that have been changed, servicing done and any problems that i know of. Bikes are sold as is and guarantee is dependent on the problem. Any other problems with the bike, its up to the buyer to find out. I will tell everything that i know of.... those that i don't, boh pian lah.... i oso dunno how to tell?

 

Den get deposit asap and the bike is not for viewing anymore.

 

Find date for transfer etc and complete the deal.

 

After that got any problem/questions with the bike can still call me to discuss..... I want be happy when i sell my bike and the buyer to be happy when he/she buys my bike.
