Chain Cleaning - Various ways & methods

You'll find that GT85 does a great job of wiping down your rims and swingarms too, no need to wash with water later on as opposed to WD40, no need to lug around pails of water. Yes, it is more ex than WD40, but it is more effective in use, ie, spray abit and wipe will give good results, leaves teflon layer that makes dirt and grime harder to stick.

The penray degreaser from Ah Boy is very strong, not good for frequent use on chains and bearings. Such products completely strip the part of lubrication.

thanks a lot for your advices..:help:

dun use WD40 ...

it is expansive and it does not protect ur chain and O-ring in the long run.

if u notice ..... WD40 will EVAPORATE ............................. :goodluck:

I also use kerosene and the same method. Kerosene, Soap water, then wax chain again.

many say that kerosene will damage the o-ring/x-ring...

i always use diesel... cheap, very good cleaning power, easy to wash off with water...

Kerosene is recommended on the DID box. Diesel I not too sure. But for sure petrol is not good for rubber.

Could be due to different chain lube/wax. I know Castrol chain wax extremely sticky and difficult to clean off.

so we only change the O-ring at the rear..how abt the small one in front?

O ring are meant for the CHAIN style..as there are a few types of CHAIN...as u mentioned the small O the front and rear are called SPROKET...when it getting sharper on the teeth..its time to change... Best is to change a pair..front and back...if ur chain is getting loose and looose no way to tighten..pls change together with it..if budget,CUT CHAIN(not advisable but for really budget people like me..) :cheeky:

Those 2 round metal plates with teeth are called sprockets not O-rings. O-ring is a type of rubber seal and in this case a component within the chain structure of a O-ring chain itself. I think you are rather confused.

It is recommended that you change the sprockets in a pair or else there might be uneven wear.

Hope it helps...
