think they stopped importing to sg in 2000.

pros: best looking 2A bike (in my opinion, tied with monster 400), unique, torquey

cons: not exactly the most reliable bike in the market, low resale, as LimSteel pointed out

SV400 don't have in sg.

SV400S getting less and less (2nd hand).

If you all manage to find one, then you're welcomed to join our outings :thumb:

The low resale is due to the relatively unknown nature of this bike in SG...in Japan and europe...the SV is extremely popular, the 400cc version particularly with the ladies because you don't have to worry about flipping the gears to overtake when you can simply roll on like a scoot.

Here, ask any local shop about the SV and they'll tell you it isn't a good bike. But having ridden one for almost a year, I can tell you my bike hasn't given me any problems that required it to be towed.

Currently searching. Found one recently with 100000km, haven't seen the bike yet. Also reading from past posts that SV engines needs to be carefully maintain after a certain high mileage...

So now asking... what so I look out for when meeting the bike? Of all the entire bike, the thing I most worried are the engine-related stuffs.

100000km is quite a lot, will need a top overhaul...

Shims replacement, timing chain and chain tensioner. You can tell by the noise the engine makes. Even piston rings should change.

Kinda expected that... anyone knows roughly cost how much and how long it can last?

According to the service manual, the tappets/valve clearance, should be checked every 60000Km. But the agent told me not to worry coz it usually last longer. Anyway, his style is no spolit don't fix.

I had a friend (400cc) who changed timing chain, tensioners, tappet and clutch plates for abt $1500...

Dudes... can use end can of 400cc (slip on version) on SVS? recently got a few good deal (legal yoshi) abit itchy...

Also anyone got a drill extension? I wanna drill some holes in my pipes...

I just bought the original Suzuki SV650 tank cover for $22 on eBay. Please do not get overcharged!

The belly fairing is $100+ at least, and the hugger is about $120. Motovation frame and swingarm sliders are about $63 and $33 respectively.

All prices quoted in US Dollars, before shipping.

V-twins are not popular in Singapore because most local riders don't appreciate it. The mechanics are also not familiar with them. Those who ride v-twins get ridiculed by friends and bike shops for owning TLR, VTR - and to some extent SV. No wonder sales are low, dealers are no longer importing them, and mechanics are even more unfamiliar with them!

Exceptions are those who are rich enough to pay for exotic Italian v-twin superbikes (Ducati, Aprilia, etc). They pay a serious premium to keep their rides running.

But any local mechanic who tells you that SV isn't a good bike is just bullsh!tting. SV's are rated top street bikes in Europe and USA, surpassing the so-popular-in-Singapore Fazer. They may not have the highest peak power like the inline-4 competition, but they have lots of character, monster low-end torque and superb handling.

Of course, in reality, you have to take servicing and parts availability into consideration. Even though I love my SV, I will think twice about getting one when I return home.

If SV is not good enough, got a friend selling V-Max (1200cc). Think go Thailand shouldn't be a problem and it's much better than a Phantonbusa, right?

Wait for cl2a, then wait for cl2a bike. By then my COE expired liao...

Dudes, this is not a drag race. The road to Mersing, only 1 section you can go beyond 120kph. Mostly are twisties and small road with cows, chicken and kambeng lurking around, not advisable to go fast. Its more demanding on the rider than the machine.

I'll be sweeper if you guys are on.
