Hi guys,

Am looking at the sportster 1200. Would like to know difference between the carburrator and the present efi engines. What's the difference in terms of power and fuel consumption? Would anyone pay $12000 for what looks like an excellent '00 sportster 1200 with fantastic paintwork? The bike starts with no problem even with cold engine. In fact the bike looks almost brand new. Owner is a Canadian.

Hope to hear from you guys. Cheers!

There are a lot of people who prefer carbs due to lower rpm when idling, and so get that traditional Harley Sound, which you cant get with EFI. EFI has better fuel consumption, unless the bike has pipes, stage 1 a/c and PC card. Cold starts should not be an issue here. If non-stock pipes, make sure you get the originals as well for inspection purposes. Whats the mileage on the bike and is it stock? $12k sounds a little high but not like an unreasonable amount if you like the bike. IMO, I dont think the 1200 is as popular as the 883. You might be able to find a Dyna with the 88ci for a bit more. There a Sporty on Craigslist for $7k.

Good luck.

BTW, this isnt the 1200 that sitting in the dealer is it? If it is, the original owner put a lot of work into it and does look good.

Thanks Dnish, no i saw the bike from the owner direct. Btw, which dealer are you referring to?

The Harley dealer, they take bikes on consignment. Not sure if bike is still around as that was a month or so ago.
