hmmm where do you all recommend for pod filter then? My 02 monster also can't idle for a minute. do you all know what is wrong?

A SAFE RIDER IS NOT NECESSARY A GOOD RIDER. HE MUST HAVE EXCELLENT RIDING SKILLS AND JUDGEMENT TOO.

It seems that Ducati Monster 400s have problems idling after sometime. A well tuned one will start and idle properly, first time. I don't know about the newer fuel injected models.

 

30 minutes spent with a carb balancer and fine tuning the idle mixture should solve the problem. Also check for air leaks in the vacum hoses.

mine, only start with a click every moring, without choke. the most important, dun turn your trottle. let its warm up for a 5 to 10 mins. if not, maybe u can adjust the slow higher.

If you're looking for a safe/tried-and-tested (by me!) way, go with these: http://www.ca-cycleworks.com/shop/catalog/ducati/fuel.html

 

Scroll down towards the end and get this item: K&N pod filter, for FCRs / CVs ru1750 (pair)

 

 

82USD for the pair of them, and shipping from him is very reasonable. I can vouch for the store, i've spent a couple thousand getting my engine done up with parts from him.

 

Finished product will look something like this (carbs and ignition coils are not stock units):

You'll need to chop the airbox to put the pods in. Mike is the best man to bring em to. What you see in the pics is his work.

 

Bear in mind that re-jetting the carbs are MANDATORY once you swap the filters. The bike will simply not run if you keep it on stock jetting with such an opened intake

 

Personally i'd recommend you sort out the idling problem you're having first before going the pod filter route. May make troubleshooting more difficult if you dont.

 

If it were me i'd be looking at the fuel filter and carbs first, my money is betting its one of these things causing you problems.
