Hi SBF, I would like to seek some information regarding this issue. :)

I am riding a Yamaha Spark T135. I was being stopped by LTA today for my white led light. He say that they will be sending me a letter which I believe is a fine. May I know how much will the fine be? $30 or so?

I did not install an extra led light anywhere in my bike it is actually located at the front part where the signal lights are. Somehow during my inspection I did pass but the person told me that I should change it to bulb as it is not allowed.

I read online and I heard from others that the TP told them that white led light is fine.

The reason why I am seeking for more information here is because the person who issue me the fine seem to be inexperienced. This is my first time being stopped by anyone and I can sense that he knows nothing much.

My headlight is also white in colour, which also gone through inspection. Passed without any remarks by the person who inspected it. I believe it is not HID and it is just a white bulb but he insist that he saw a "Basil" installed. I don't know what "Basil" is and apparently he said that it is use to convert lights to HID. And from what I remember I only changed the bulb from yellow to white as the old yellow bulb had blown off. I didn't install any "Basil"

Oh and back to the story, I did not change my white led light to a white bulb as I think it is somehow a waste of money. Since it will look the same I suppose? As it will just be white anyway. And I didn't want to change it because it is not spoiled. I mean if it's spoiled then I will change it to a white bulb. Yes and he said that I should change it to the same colour as my signal light. I told him that would be lighted up and it will be orange all the way, not blinking like a signal light. So I ask him if he is sure that I should change it to the colour of my signal light, he replied saying that I should change it to the default colour. So from what I know, the default colour should be a yellow bulb? I am not sure as I am the 2nd owner of this bike and it is already a white led light since then. And technically if I can use a white bulb instead of a yellow bulb for my headlight, I should be able to use a white bulb instead of the white led light. So in this case I am being fine for using a white led, which will also look similar to a white bulb?

I am not sure if anyone is confused at this point of time but your replies will be appreciated. Thank you :)

I think it would be wise to write in to them to check and clarify on the matter. It doesn't quite make sense that you're caught in this predicament. Do write back and let us know so we can all learn from this!

I suppose you meant your pole lights. Led lights are illegal unless it comes factory fitted.

'Basil is 'ballast' :cheeky:

And if you really didn do hid conversion then he'd be pretty stupid to see something that's not there. Unless previous owner did do such a conversion and left it there before re installing conventional bulbs prior to selling.

I've never had a problem with pure white led for my pole light, although I was warned once at inspection coz the led I used had a purple tinge even though it was essentially a white led. The law says you cannot use colored bulbs including if white with a colored tinge, but this is the first time i've heard that led itself is not allowed.

It's true: it's more fun to ride a slow bike fast than to ride a fast bike slow. Admittedly, though... It is MOST fun to ride a fast bike fast!

Its called ballast, basil are those leaves you put on pizza so they smell nice, you can't convert normal bulbs into HID, they have to be using HID bulbs.

Sorry bro, you just got stopped by a yaya papaya LTA d!psh!t.

There is a lta website that states rather clearly to what is and not allowed.

White light is actually dimmer from a distance which makes you seem further.

When you come closer, its just glaring and inconsiderate to other users.

Pole lights being small, confuses other road users to judge the distance.

LED lights are never approved for road use unless they are factory fitted.

Same goes with HID, you don't know whether they are near or far because all you see in the mirrors is a wall of white, checking the blindspot doesn't help hahahah.
