Hi

currentlly i am planning to have a long journey trip. I had ever encounter short of electricity during the tour. THus is that any way that i can use my S4 battery which can supply me electric power as at home?

I not looking something like the cigrattte power plug as some electric device may find difficulties in getting the cigratte plug, thus if i can make my bike have the 3 pin plug as what we use at home, i think it would be the best.

So is that any advice on how to build this system? do i need to add parallel another unit of battery so that the electric ampere getting bigger... and so on

thanks

hi,

yes, it is possible however if you have notice. mostly the hp which is using "3" pin plug but the gnd which is the top is usually not in used. only the positive and negative. and it is only supplying only 5V thus any voltage that is above 5V will be able to work "technically" as the 3pin plug will be very big for our bike and it has not been tried before. would advise to use the cigg power plug instead of 3 pin.

good luck.

can buy the connector(cig ones) at abt $10.. just tell you mech to connect a fuse and switch to it..

then you can use those 12V adapter to plug in to use.. juse like those inside scooters..

Er, may i know why do u wan to use ur S4 batt to power up ur electrical appliances? Cos the batt only provides DC and not AC. Also, the normal HP charger works by converting the AC power to DC power through rectifier...

She waits for me patiently downstairs, thru rain and shine..Yet she never complains and serving me with loyalty..a true beauty that u will not regret...

i understand that the cigg plug is easier in setting up the electric system for bike, but if comes to a situation where the charger plug is convention type or difficuty in obtaining the cigg plug, it will create a lot of troble later.

Such as, when u are at Thailand where they only use the thin 2 pin plug, i hv the plug adaptor, thus if i have 3pin power plug, i can use the plug adaptor and use the electric. if is cigg plug, i do not know how to connect it with thin 2 pin plug. or you pls further explain

because while on the road, i do not wish being troubled with running out of battery. thus if can do everything on bike will be the besttttt

i understand that normally hp and AA/AAA charger consume little in voltage, but how with laptop? as laptop need 19v and 3.25Amp (my one is ACER travelmate), then is that anyway to boost up the battery voltage from 12v to 19v?

What you need is an inverter that will convert the 12VDC to 110/240VAC. Can be found at SL Tower or even Mustafa ground floor where they sell rechargable batteries.

u mean SL tower got sell the inverter or rechargable battery?

after increase the voltage, i think the provided ampere will dropped cos Power = Voltage x ampere.

If like that i think i need to add parallel another 12v battery in order to increase the total power.

Or do u have any idea that the existing batt will do its work as usual, while the extra battery which is connected to be rechargable (is that need to connected to armature?) which will focus alone on the electronic electric consumption but not the bike usual electric consumption?

i think getting a car would be a better option for u.. to be using laptop when riding???

Can check wif Kutrax . He had a 3pin plug socket install

on his Spec III wif LV carbon fibre pipe. Was told its for

' vibrator' used or something like tat.Can PM him for details. :cheeky:

Yes, the output current is lower but it all about the total amount of watts (power=voltage x current) the inverter will draw from the DC end and supply at the AC end. AC mains devices draw small currents because of the higher voltage.

It really not about the number of batteries or battery size unless you only run the AC device for short periods. Batteries can boost current output for brief periods only until they become discharged, you just have to parallel additional cell to your battery. You can have a separate battery that you recharge off the bike, but that will defeat the purpose of mobile power source.

Ideally the batteries in a motorcycle should always be kept topped up for best lifespan. That means the charging system must be able to cope with the total electrical load, and that's usually possible only when moving at a good rpm.

The typical motorcycle does not have much spare output capacity at idling, but it should not be a problem to power small devices like hp chargers. For something like your laptop which is drawing 60+Watts, the bike should be moving or you have to up your idle rpm to prevent draining your battery.

A good way to free up wattage is to install a headlight switch. The electrical output at idling usually just sufficient to power the headlight and still slowly charge at idle. If you switch off the headlight, you immediately free up 55W that a typical H4 drains. Best is to install a voltmeter to monitor if you're charging or draining when powering high drain devices for long periods.
