So it is a must to service the ball bearings every 20km?? How much is the ball bearing servicing?

By the way, can I ask how much to install a rear box(with a rear back seat cushion for the pillion rider) on the FJR? Since we have two side boxes, so I was thinking of installing just a small box(with back seat cushion) behind.

Thanks for any advice(s) given.

On the safe side if you do long distance riding often you should. Just by changing the wheel bearing is about 100 plus front and back depending on the kinda quality. I normally go for the better one.

The Givi box I have is Maxia. With the cushion it costed me about 300plus if I did not rem wrongly. If you are going for a smaller box the price is slightly cheaper lo.

One more thing... I heard a friend saying that he read from SBF that a rider had his FJR side boxes broken open and stolen when the bike was parked at Suntec City and my friend was advicing me to look into better secure for the two side boxes...

But how to better secure it to prevent it from being broken into?? Put big padlocks on the boxes???

What my other friend (friend B) said is quite true also lah no matter how secure we make our boxes to be, if the F*#@er really want to break open the boxes, he sure has his way to break and steal... Right??

Or we can install an alarm on FJR?? How much will it cost to install alarm??

seahmh frankly speaking it is not adviseable to put a box if yr are riding at NSHW u will fell the bike flying off due to the box.

and even yamaha nv recommend to put top box..

but if u wanna it for yr partner to lean back then i suggest u get a backrest that i might be asking seng kwang to do it for me... and get a small box too for small items like raincoat and some tools.

Yamaha recommendation is 1top box or 2side box ONLY.

3 2gether is not recommended.

about the wheel bearing issue, i agreed with nakano. all bike have this issue. but im not total agree with cybernation. coz original japan wheel bearing will last longer then aftermarket (even the OEM). my personal experience, example: original bearing can last 50,000km, aftermarket or OEM might last 20,000km only. is not the bearing no good, is the way ur machanic replace it :giddy:

time to show off my knowledge again :cheeky: , a proper way to replace bearing is use hydraulic pump & jig to push in the bearing, not by knocking it into place. but the problem is how many bike shop have that hydraulic pump? i bet even HL don't have that. :sian:

Over 200km/hr the handle will start to wobble. But detatch the box wobbles goes away.

U mean we will feel the bike flying off due to the back box??

So U are considering putting a backrest and a small box? So the small will be installed behind your back-rest?? How much for both items plus labour charges?Cool... After I get my bike, must take a look at how does it look like on your bike and get the address from you to install mine...

Well, wait till I get my licence first... :giddy:

Got good quality one meh? What brand? I just use back OEM.

Our rear wheel bearing uses NTN. Total of 4.

3 of which are normal ball bearing.

1 of it is the needle roller bearing. that one AM and HL all no stock. I went SLS to buy but no exact dimension. ID and OD the same but length is shorter by 1mm, 25 instead of 26. Guess how much? $4.50. You know whats dirt? Cuz i thinks its dirt cheap... :cheeky:

Anyway, I bot the other 3 seperately from AM and HL. Installed liao, now running OK. But some collar were damaged during the removal. i ordered them from AM. Other than that, I oso went back SLS to buy the other 3 bearings. Again, its dirt.. Compared to AM, not to mention HL. Its not fake, its the very one thats used cuz I brot the old ones to compare.

I dun think they can be serviced. These are prelube sealed type. I suspect I accelerated the failure during one of the mersing trips... Rmb Denrick? Otherwise, they should last.

Anyway, should any one of you need assistance (touch wood) regarding bearing failure, can always ask me. Maybe I can help you in some ways.

Thanks for any advice(s) given.

Givi Rack + Mounting plate cost about $230. If you buy seperate more ex. Box itself, bigger more ex. But careful though. If you want to have backrest, only certain boxes can mount the backrest. Usually the big ones. I use Givi Micro 2, no backrest option. Unless you talking about custom made ones, which I oso dunno where got make.

As for servicing bearing, dun worry. The bearings ARE cheap. I think the labour charge more ex than the bearing itself. Which means the labour charge for servicing the bearing as compared to replacing them might end up be as expensive.

I went to Meng Tong for help for my bearing prob. Frankly speaking, I'm not all that impress. I mean he's responsible and commited, that I have no complains. But sometimes, he oso use eh... brute force. He was trying to knock out the bearing for sometime but it didnt budge. I looked at the MM and it says the dust cover, drive hub must be removed first. So I brot it to his attention. He tried a little bit more before giving up and follwed the MM. Den finally it came out. To be fair, I think every other Mechanic would have done the same unless you have done it before. So, I still think he's a good mechanic. I took part in the removla and stuff and I ran ard sourcing for the parts so maybe labour he charge me reasonably.
