wonder why cb400 horse power=46 and nc700x =50. almost 300cc diff yet only 4hp diff...

 

Look at the torque figures. NC700X is 62NM at 4750RPM. That is massive amount of torque at such low RPM.

If you compare this with FZ6 which is an inline 4, has max power of 90BHP but torque is same 63NM but comes at much much higher RPM of 10,000.

 

I guess if you want massive torque at lower RPMs you sacrifice the HP.

gentle reminder who like to install accessories on their new bikes. ask the shop first whether the warranty be voided if any stock parts are replaced with your desired parts/accessories or any additional parts u added. some shops do this.

As you know for break in usually should go with mineral or semi syn. Later on the 500X riders in other countries seem to prefer fully syn, usually 10W30 or 10W40.

jyew777 --> for cases you can try Hepco. They make very robust racks and cases which come with well-designed mounting points. My preference by far. They may not be the prettiest, but you can count on the Germans to make a well-thought of, quality product. They also do nice engine and tank protection as well, just bloody expensive. Agree that many may think a top-case ruins the look etc, but by far it is the most convenient from a commuting perspective. Lugging around gear may not be ideal for many. In my opinion, the adventure look goes well with a top-case, but I'd just checked out a Diavel with a top-case which I may actually consider getting perhaps in a year or two. Well, one man's meat another man's poison - for me as long as it makes it easier for me to ride, it's two thumbs up for me!

while i do not believe in the traditional run-in.

i will send my bike down to race-werks for a hard-run in on the dyno.

 

Been doing hard run in for my cars and bikes since i own them.

If your engine has recently been overhauled, or is new, then you should "Break-In" your engine using straight mineral oils.

When a cylinder is new the inner wall surface is not smooth as might be imagined. The objective of the break-in procedure is to rub off any high spots, both on the cylinder wall and the piston rings, so that the rings can create a tight gas seal for normal operation. This requires the piston ring to break through the oil film and allow a certain amount of metal-to-metal contact between the components. Once this matching has occurred the break-in is considered to be complete and very little contact will occur thereafter.

Ehm, as much as I don;t usually go into the debate of hard break in vs soft, I do believe it is very important the oil is mineral or at least semi. You know, little particles of metals floating around and all that new engine getting itchy needing as little oil resistance to get into scratching mode.. :) But you most certainly have more experience in this than me if you've owned several bikes and tested it, I just write what I read over the years :cheeky:
